We went for a lock down key back in Frost. It didn't work so we went for plan B.

Do you think it might be possible that we are in different circumstances to Richmond with Rance and the Eagles with McGovern?

For starters we don't have any proven lock down key backs to take this role and Andrews will benefit from spending time on the best key forwards and learning to defend. Also he is not as capable as those two and we are in a rebuilding phase where we need to focus on developing the youngsters instead of pushing for a premiership like those two teams.

No I don't, as if you put anyone else (eg Eagles, Close) on an opposing tall forward that player gets the assistance of Andrews who is dominating the attacking zone.

Put Andrews on that player he gets no help as playing the free back/intercept marking role is very difficult to play, not everyone can do it well.

I think to much is being made of the teaching excuse, while important to teach more important to have the experience to recognise what you have at your disposal.

You seriously think we should play Andrews as the loose man each week? Even if that means someone like Eagles or Close getting games?

None of our ex players got drafted. Apparently there was interest in Michael Close and Josh Clayton, but not picked up by anyone. A pity, but the best of luck to them anyway.

What's the situation with Cian Hanley? Thought we were re-drafting him and Beams. Can we do it outside the draft since Hanley was a Cat B rookie or did the AFL just end up giving us permission anyway for the extra year since we re-committed to him regardless

So Claye's back on the rookie list now. What actually happened in regards to Hanley? What category is he now and how come we didn't have to re-draft him if we were required to delist him?

I have no doubt these things will have been looked at/asked........remember this was our new coach's first season, still sorting out what's what.

Let's wait and see what happens this year before being too critical of the club, after all, it has been totally turned on it's head from management down...basically a whole new club, from rabble to something resembling a professional football club. It was such an overhaul that it will take time.

If you can, try and see the positives in the club for a change, it has been negative for so long it's a pleasant change to feel comfortable that the right people are there turning the ship in the right direction...

I never fool myself to feel comfortable.

In the end one can only go on, not what is said but the actions taken/results!

To date there has been to many rookie mistakes by the porfessionals in our football dept, imo.

It's also been my experience that one improves by reviewing ones performance noting poor performance and working to improve same.

Surprised about Close, thought he had shown enough for someone to give a second chance as a rookie although us de-listing him might have said more.

Same I was really hoping someone would give him a chance as think he could have still done well at this level. Hopefully he can drop down and reinvent himself somewhere

It seems like we have permission and he will be Cat B for another year. Apparently this has happened before with a Carlton Irish rookie, I think it was Ciaran Sheehan who was on their rookie list for 4 years, but I could have the name wrong.

What happens when somebody starts claiming that those who disagree with them are on the clubs payroll?
One can usually tell by the emotion level of a reply if the responder has financial interest.

Your not suggesting forums like these aren't monitored and controlled by the marketing dept of the clubs?

That would be nieve, imo.

Because they have nothing better to do then to make thousands of posts read by dozens of people to try and sway people's opinions?

Cat B rookies are not drafted, just nominated. All 4 Cat A spots are now full. I don't know why he wasn't retained, or prelisted, but perhaps because this is his 4th year, it's just done outside the system. They're just making up or altering the rules as they go... seems like cat B is a such project area that they don't need to be too rigorous with it.

Further MacMum, we are paying for porfessionals to know better imo.

Coaches don't get to hide behind the rookie tag.

Highly paid for your experience?

You perform!

That got very emotional at the end there!

We were keen on him,and it went almost to the wire, when the Coasters cut in, recruitment boys were worried that may happen, they have a good handle on what other teams are up to...they were also concerned that we didn't leave our bid on Bailey any later. They judged it all perfectly, right down to Payne. We did as well as anyone, and putting the last two years together, its been brilliant.

thanks mate appreciate the insight

I knew we were quite keen on Petruccle and I thought we would take him at 18, damn West Coast so close and he would have been absolutely perfect for us.

They probs would have taken Starc so it was one or the other, oh well still happy how well we have done over the last couple of years
