From the Draft Board.
Yeah heard about the back injury. 11 tackles? Promising to hear. I just couldn't see any disposal numbers etc. Thanks for the update.

How do you compare Worpel to Luke Davies-Uniacke? Obviously both inside mids but could you explain differences?
Davies-Uniacke better player than Worpel - cleaner kick on either foot, better decision maker. One thing I've noticed between the two that Davies-Uniacke is strong enough to stand up when being tackled and dish the ball out while Worpel isn't as strong and will either be tackled to the ground or just hold the ball in rather than disposing it creating another stoppage.

Both good at the clearances and in the contested situations - Davies for me would be ready to go from Rd 1, reckon Worpel might just need some time learning a few things.

Worpel is going to be a strong inside midfielder and they're always the safest come draft time - Should be top 20 but I wouldn't peg him into the Top 10 or anything like that at the moment.

With you on Rankine, saw him play a couple of weeks ago. Only had about 10 touches but the fact he is playing senior SANFL a full 2 years before draft is super impressive.

:)

Impressive ......yes.

Good indicator .....No.

(Recent adverse evidence: J. Toumpas, J. Aish)

Was Matho not a 2 time under 18 All Australian? He performed well at that level. And at AFL level for his age.

Just a personal opinion, thats all. I don't compare Worpel to Matho at all. Worpel wouldn't carry on like Matho does when scoring a goal, its beyond a joke, especially after dropping a regulation chest mark before hand (rant over).

Worpel is a lot better built, more strength and muscle than Matho had at u18 level (probably still stronger than him now), and athletically more explosive than Matho.

Worpel plays like Taylor Adams did at U18 level, but more pace and is stronger/well built (Cunnington type).
Its hard to compare him to an AFL player, but its not Matho.

Sure they have both had elite juniors years, Worpel set up himself up as a 17 year old, as did Matho. But different player and playing styles.
Just all personal opinion thats all.

I get why fans of other teams don't love Mathieson, but he's really just having fun out there. It was a victory lap goal in a big win for our club and he was excited. Surely we have bigger fish to fry.

If you wanted to have a rant at Matho, not sure the club where he comes from is the right place. We actually like it as there is character out there. The AFL needs more of this imo, not necessarily Matho tho. Everyone is all robotic

Agree, massive win for Brisbane.

Was more trying to sell that fact that Matho is completely different to Worpel. (using that as an on-field example)

No you weren't. You were trying to devalue his effort by referring to it as a regulation chest mark while avoiding the very obvious fact that it was a marking contest in which he recovered better than his opponent to collect the ball and snap a goal under pressure. When Worpel does that in senior company come back and remind us how good he is.

You'll hear back from me, Round 1 2018 then.

The highlight for me at one point in the game Dermie announces a free kick for Brisbane - apparently Fyfe had a swipe at Matho. Loved watching him ruffle Fyfe's feathers, nudging and shoving him. Fyfe finally snapped lol

Loved it as well, like all these niggly players we are assembling. Gardiner and Carlisle a few years ago was epic.
Starting to assemble a bit of a rough now: Gardiner, Matho, Rocky, Robertson, Robinson, Hippy, even Keyes goes at them from time to time and it wouldn't surprise me if Taylor does it too

A team of punks according to Derm. Great to have young aggressive players who aren't overawed by the big names like Fyfe or Franklin (Robertson)

The GWS kids used to be like that.. . Seems to have worked out ok for them.

GC went with a god squad that divided the playing group

I'll take the team of young punks anyday!

Take your lack of passion and shove it up your wazoo!!!!

Hutchy jr proving that gingers do indeed have no souls

Sambono... really hope we take a punt. Seen a few NT games kid just knows where to find the goals. Has the appetite to succeed and I reckon he would fit in really well with our young list. Helps lift our indigenous profile too, tippa succeeding is huge for the tiwi islands. Sambono not only wants to succeed but wants to show his community that you can make it to the big leagues. Gonna be a star that kid. Real level head on his shoulders. Would be happy to take him pick 1. Only played his first organised game 5 years ago or something ridiculous like that, such a slight build making grown men look stupid out there.

Sooo much development left in him I'm surprised I haven't seen his name thrown around more.
I would go Liam Ryan in front of Sambono Billy, Ryan's been kicking bags in the WAFL for a couple of years, he is more physically developed and playing in a stronger competition.

DOB: 2nd October 1996
Debut: N/A
From: Rover FC
Height: 184

Has kicked 75 goals in 27 games in the seniors and made 47 tackles a just about takes the mark of the year every week ah la Jeremy Howe, he has serious X factor although he needs to improve his endurance.

How come other clubs havent picked him up then? If it is just his endurance, then you would think clubs would take a punt on him and increase it.

I have see some of his highlights and he looks pretty good. Instinctive player.

I was hoping we would pick him up late in the draft last year and when he wasn't thought he would certainly be a rookie. lionshine was the first one that pointed him out, what do you think lionshine? this year?
