I really like Giro from SA. Damaging left foot kick and very composed with the footy. He takes the game on with aggresive kicks through the corridor and rarely misses his target. Not sure why most phantom drafts have him in the 3rd round, IMO the most underrated player of the draft

Hi all.
I used to be Crows supporter (since inception) but frankly they are ******s on that board.
Also I have just moved to Brisbane so figure I should support the local team.
FWIW you guys seem much more balanced. Those Crows supporters whinge about everything even when their team is close to top. I have had enough of them. I am now Bjorn Again.

Anyway I am not so sure we will pick Ballenden. His champs have not been great but he improved a little in last game.
He is also being played out of position makes me think the coach is not impressed either.
We have a few promising forwards already so I suspect we will go mainly for midfielders in this draft.

PS. Lions should have beaten Essendon last game so I reckon we have a shot this w/e.
Welcome to BF and to the board that has total perspective as to where we sit in the grand scheme of things that is the AFL. No delusions of grandeur here Bjorn, this little Lions section of BF is the apotheosis of tolerance, acceptance, civilized discussion and enlightenment.

You planning on going to games or getting a membership? We need all the support we can get, jump on board now and you can never be accused of being a bandwagon jumper, might be the perfect time, our win/loss record since the start of 2015 is 9/48 the next 57 it could be a complete U turn 48/9 here we come.

Have only been able for to watch bits of yesterday's games. Vic Metro will once again dominate the early rounds of the draft and then Vic C. I think that the depth is starting to grow when you take into account that WA won 3 games.

Good to see Stephenson have a great game but if there are concerns about being able to win his own ball at the junior level then he is a big no from me. If you look at the Swans and also the Dogs their philosophy is around drafting players that can win their own contested ball and this shows when it comes to finals.

Rayner is definitely stepping up and I still think that he and LDU would still be very close on most clubs draft boards. I reckon LDU might just be trying 'too much' and Rayner is playing in the better team. I'm still torn, remembering Petracca's games in the champs as an underage player he was playing the same role as Rayner is now but in his senior year went into the midfield and dominated and should have gone pick 1 he was that far and above everyone else. LDU has shown the class on the inside and ability to break a tackle and also dispose of the footy by foot but apart from the Allies games he's just that little bit off.

Nick Coffield is classy down back. His delivery by foot is outstanding. I know the club has stated midfielders but Fagan did state the he sees Witherden as playing midfield eventually so possibly the need for an elite kick out of the backline. In the modern game a lot of attack is created from down back either as an elite kick/decision maker or as a line breaker by speed of foot. I did like some of the things that Matthew Ling did early in his game and could be someone around our 3rd rounder as someone who is able to break the lines.

I have liked Lachlan Fogarty's champs so far. Really nice kick, good decision maker and a great tackler which you don't really see at this level. Plays as a mid for Western Jets (Rayner) but has been playing as a small forward/HBF these nationally champs.

Just on Paddy Dow, Mick Ablett did say that some clubs have him as high as in their top 5 so maybe one that won't last to our later picks.

Won't give you a like coz I disagree, but welcome aboard.

edit: the disagree is not about the Crows bit

You had me at, crows supporters are ****wits

I know due his small stature and not being flashy he will not go early, but Jack Higgins is a gun. Will play 250 games somewhere. No stand out attributes but is a genuine footy player.

When are you playing your next Brisbane concert? It's been 18 months, guys!

Yep, I'm hopeful he drifts to our Port pick/18 range. On ability and performance in the champs alone he should be top 10, but his lack of athletic attributes, size or speed will count against him. He has a footy brain, much like Rockliff, and you can't teach that.

There was a discussion either on one of the podcasts or on tv before one of the games about Higgins and what he projects at the next level.

Higgins left school at the beginning of the year and has been training full time with various coaches, as well as doing an internship at AFL house with the umpiring department.

There is a feeling what he is now, is what he will be in the AFL system. While many of the kids still at school have significant growth still in them.

What's our chance of getting a top ten pp this year?

It might be a stretch but being two wins below everyone else (three not including the Roos). Even Hawthorn and Carlton can beat the top side.

If we end up with 2-3 wins you would think we are a certainty, especially if North and the Hawks win a couple more games and we are as you say 4-5 wins behind 17th.

If we don't get one then the AFL should get rid of the PP and be done with it.

I really hope we get in the first round. It would allow us to be a lot more versatile. We could potential deal the pp and port pick for the second overall. We would have a lot more points to grab Ballenden if someone bids really early, we wouldn't completely lose our next pick in the top 20. It would greatly help us.

By most reports this is a fairly shallow draft, if we get a PP I would be hoping it would be straight after our first (pick 2) or right before the finalists (pick 11) at worst.

Dream scenario- We end up with picks 1 and 2 and then package up Ports pick (pick 16-10) with our current pick 18 to move as far up the draft as possible. Another option would be to trade one of those picks for a first round pick next year, but that is a bit of a lottery, the side we trade with could surge up the ladder and be a top 4 side, better to go with the birds in hand IMO.

Have spoken to quite a few prominent administrators and recruiters and none of them share that sentiment and quite the contrary that it is a good one.
Good to know, I don't have access to recruiters just go by vision and "expert" opinions eg. BF PDs, Brett Anderson, Callum Twomey etc.

Will get something between an end of first rounder and nothing.

So many more things that go against us getting a PP than for. Chances of getting one is fairly low IMO.

Sorry for coming on your board but I hope you guys get a good PP this year as 2017 is the most even season in living memory, and it is a case were 17th could beat 1st and no one would be surprised. There is only one team that feels like it couldn't win on any given day and that is Brisbane. The AFL bent over backwards for teams like Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Richmond when they were terrible, and Brisbane has been worse for a lot longer. To me, I think Brisbane should be given pick 2 as North Melbourne aren't so bad that they would really suffer if they had pick 3 instead of pick 2.

I really hope we get pick 2, that would be awesome. No choosing between Rayner and LDU, just pick up both. Next pick we get Ballenden or if he fall past the port pick we have another choice where we can pick up someone else who drops. Just praying we get 2.

Reality folks. No way we will get better than end of first round.

Personally, I hope they never give a team pick 1 ans 2 again. what will create a great team 5 years down the track does not help now. I have been an advocate of a pick after all non finalists for a long time - but it will not happen. Live with it.

Well, we received an end of 1st rounder last year with 4 wins after Gil promised club officials a much higher hanging carrot o_O

Now if we win only half the amount of games this year (2)...surely a higher pick is plausible

Hopefully their dubious criteria includes cold hard facts such as 8 wins from last 70 and not relying on "Hipwood looks good they should be ok"
