For example Aish and Toumpas had an issue with winning their own ball in the juniors
They couldn't kick a bag playing int he forward line though.

He's very close and not so thin, powerful legs ,and will fill out,he's only 18 !Stephenson should be a number 1 draft pick. Has all the tools to be a superstar...
Half Hawthorn dont win their own ball, they do win premierships.Disagree, doesn't win his own ball at the junior level which is a big concern when playing with the big boys.

He's starring at the business end,as did McGrath.Does Stephenson play any private school footy, where there isn't any anti congestion rules that are in place at TAC cup and Nationals?
Up until this game, reports are that he has had a pretty ordinary season so far.

Port - they have cruised into top 4 without beating a team in the 8!?? Draw next year will sort them out, they have major issues forward, back & coaching wise - they could well implode this year still. What teams do people see being worse in 2018 than they are in 2017?
Yeah I've heard those comments too, might've been Cal Twomey? To be honest, that seems like crap. You could easily twist the notion to focus on how his actions and his professionalism is a testament to how badly he wants to make the grade? He's a 17-year-old, there's still development in him even if he is already, in a way, a full-time athlete.T
There was a discussion either on one of the podcasts or on tv before one of the games about Higgins and what he projects at the next level.
Higgins left school at the beginning of the year and has been training full time with various coaches, as well as doing an internship at AFL house with the umpiring department.
There is a feeling what he is now, is what he will be in the AFL system. While many of the kids still at school have significant growth still in them.
Haven't seen footage of Higgins, but the impression I get is he plays similar to Caleb Daniels from the Dogs.Yeah I've heard those comments too, might've been Cal Twomey? I'd be absolutely wrapped if we picked him up in the teens and I'd back him in to eventually become a best 22 mid.
Not bad at all, actually. I'd say Daniels is probably more damaging with his disposal. Higgins is more of an accumulator.Haven't seen footage of Higgins, but the impression I get is he plays similar to Caleb Daniels from the Dogs.
Would this be an accurate comparison?
You don't have to twist it. Twomey has said both in the same paragraph.Yeah I've heard those comments too, might've been Cal Twomey? To be honest, that seems like crap. The most common comparison that's been mentioned by multiple people is Lewis Taylor from previous seasons, that runs in circles and chips sideways and is not particularly damaging.Haven't seen footage of Higgins, but the impression I get is he plays similar to Caleb Daniels from the Dogs.

IIRC it was Stephen Conole who said at or pre draft last year that we will be placing a premium on drafting elite kicks hence the top 4 we drafted last year, also Mitchell Hinge is supposedly a very good kick. You can see that our spine is really starting to stand up and believe that's why we won today. You can see when you draft players that have talent and also footskills it goes along way to helping win a game as evidenced by Witherden and McCluggage. Hope that the club stays on this thread of drafting these types. The difference maker will be to keep building our midfield depth and will be the reason we start winning more games.
I'm warming to Coffield especially if the club sees Witherden's future as a midfielder. I am a big fan of O'Brien but can't see him falling out of the top 10.IIRC it was Stephen Conole who said at or pre draft last year that we will be placing a premium on drafting elite kicks hence the top 4 we drafted last year, also Mitchell Hinge is supposedly a very good kick.
I've asked a few questions re kicking skills of our BF phantom drafters and some of the names that have come up for us to look at this year with elite kicks are- Rayner, Cerra, Coffield, O'Brien and Clark.
Daniels is also quite a bit quicker. I see Jack as a less skilled version of Robbie Gray. Despite what some say though he is good overhead. It goes without saying that all 18 year olds have development in them and he no less than the others. If he is played forward he will be a goal scorer with the added advantage that he does get a lot of the ball. I'd prefer Stephenson but I doubt we would take him at 1 or 2 and he will be well and truly gone by our second pick. As for Higgins not playing APS footy, he will get greater development playing TAC Cup and rep footy than he would ever get at school. Not bad at all, actually. I'd say Daniels is probably more damaging with his disposal. Higgins is more of an accumulator.
So who's the consensus pick 2? Reckon we're gonna sneak into 17th. Our post bye footy has been a massive improvement. Pushing good teams and beating anyone slightly off. Geelong have been inconsistent this year and we have Carlton, north, suns and dogs still to play.
Hinge IS an elite kick, and is highly regarded, very strong over the ball.IIRC it was Stephen Conole who said at or pre draft last year that we will be placing a premium on drafting elite kicks hence the top 4 we drafted last year, also Mitchell Hinge is supposedly a very good kick.

Nice to see GWS out of the first round for once.
They'll be back in if they lose Kelly though obviously.

Yeah Coffield is one I have liked, saw one phantom drafter describe him as McLuggage esque the way can evade traffic, and set other players up, he is also Northern Knights captain which is another huge tick in my book.I'm warming to Coffield especially if the club sees Witherden's future as a midfielder.
