Yeah plays a similar game to Dusty as that big, powerful half forward flanker capable of playing in the midfield. Like Dusty I think in his first few years in the AFL(Should he have a good year this year and make it of course) he'd start out on the half forward flank with bursts in the midfield before eventually becoming a full time mid.

I know everyone seems to like talking about the keys for this draft being so great but to me it seems awesome for mids. Could be just that I'm looking more at the midfield prospects because that's what we need but I reckon I could name ten mid under-agers even at this stage I'd be confident that could walk into our side with an AFL level pre-season. Come November we could be spoilt for choice.

Yeah absolutely this draft is stacked with midfield talent at this early stage. We'll have to wait and see as prospects rise and fall what it looks like come the end of the year but at the moment the likes of Fogarty, Rayner, Worpel, O'Brien, Davies-Uniacke, Spargo, Higgins ect. just to name a few are very exciting midfield prospects. Will be good to see how guys like Aiden Domic, Ethan Penrith and Changkuoth Jiath go this year as well as as they could add to that list.

Those last two I hadn't even heard of. Will keep an eye out.

Be sure to post your opinions of the under-agers in this thread as the year progresses.

Keen an eye on Ethan Penrith in particular. He plays for the Northern Knights. Lighting quick and can lay some huge bumps/tackles on the opposition. Played off the half back flank last year but is set to move into the midfield this year. With his pace he could develop into a Jack Steven type and considering our side lacks pace I'll be keeping my eyes on him and tracking his progress.

Fogarty, Rayner, and McCluggage in the midfield rotations would be amazing. Still a lot f water to pass under the bridge though but we desperately need elite midfield talent injected into the club. Would probably take the elite inside mids first before adding the cream in later drafts or trades though.

Rayner looks like Dusty to me. Even arches the back when he receives the ball and kicks with the exact same motion.
Had a look at his Western Jets clip and thought the same but thought I was just wanting to see it/eyes playing tricks/one too many scotches. But it is definitely there.

That would be a serious kick start to our future midfield and even though they haven't even played a game at the top level all players start somewhere (draft prospects). I would add Matho in there as our workhorse/extractor, Berry will also be one to watch and even Witherden was spoken of as a possibility to move into the midfield.

We are slow as buggery and some quicker types would be a god send. Made note of the Richmonds small forwards ability to harass and lock the ball in their forward 50 and Fagan made note of the need for these types in last years trade/draft period so it would be a good idea to keep an eye on these types as the year progresses.

He ain't coming north but after watching tonight two power midfielders in Fogarty and Rayner with that midfield/forward ability with our two (hopefully) first picks in the draft thanks.

It was interesting to watch how Richmonds small forwards were important with helping to locking the ball in early. I would say we have more pressing needs but can see the value and where Fagan was coming from especially with the Hawthorn model.

We have to think outside the box. Dusty apparently has a massive friendship with choco Williams. So the deal would have to involve choco Williams as reserves coach (split the strong friendship) and a mega deal as well to entice Martin. So I am saying if the friendship is as strong as some have suggested I would be prepared with a two pronged attack then wait and see if the fish takes the bait.lost nothing gained nothing so no harm to ask the questions.

Cunning.

The big thing I am hoping for, is that we get to use both our first round picks before we have to match a bid on Ballenden.

As you mentioned, there are so many players in this group that you look at and think, they could be an absolute star in 4 years time, and you hope they live up to expectations.

If this rule about not being able to use traded future picks to match Academy bids is true then there's a huge chance we get two live top 10 picks and Ballenden.

it will be interesting at the end of the year, depending on how we perform this season and how quickly Fagan/Noble see us rising up the ladder what we do re possible trade outs to get more top end talent in. lots of questions to be answered, if this draft turns out to be as good as it looks this early for mids we might need to bite the bullet and trade 1 or 2 players out who have trade value.

you would think McCluggage, Berry and Matheison are going to be pretty good mids going forward, after that it becomes pretty speculative with the likes of Keays, Lyons, Barrett, Witherden, Cox, Allison as far as young mids go. IMO if we can get 3-4 high draft mids in over the next 2 drafts we are going to be in a great position for the future ie. 2020 >.

Who r u thinking?
Rocky? (Free agency compo) maybe end of first round. Pick 19
Who else has the trade value?

Seriously who would you consider trading out?

Rockliff is out of contract, with (a healthy) Beams and Zorko the only players on the list likely to net us a high first round pick (which we'd likely end up have to use to match a bid on Ballenden).

Rocky obviously a free agent but if he has a terrific year and still wants to leave he may get us a high enough compensation for an after our first pick compo, hard to keep up on the rules, is that even possible now?

otherwise you would be looking at players going to clubs that see themselves as being in premiership contention and said players might be seen as one of the last pieces of the flag puzzle. Rich or Martin are the 2 that stand out for me. as you say on their own they probably wouldn't get a high pick but Rich or Martin plus a 2nd round pick and a swaping around of lower picks may get a reasonably high first round pick. Ports 1st round pick may come into play as well if they do better than we hope. eg. if we only get a pick in the 8-12 range we may package that up with Rich or Martin for a pick in the top 3-6.

Careful, people get a bit twitchy when there's talk of trading out players around here. That's not to say that I disagree with you but I think that the majority of the senior players (bar Rockliff and depending on what we can get for him from FA compo) the club would like to hold on to. It's our younger group that is worry some and retaining them but I'm not going to start jumping at shadows. I think that the club would be happy with the possibility of drafting 3 first rounders if it fell that way anyway.

We are already the youngest team in the comp by some distance.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have to use Ports pick to match a bid on Ballenden. Or we pass on Ballenden, in such a scenario, to draft a genuine mid like Worpel or Hunter Clark. If Schache and Hipwood progress as many hope, I can genuinely see Brisbane passing on Ballenden, unless he has a monster of a season and dominates the Div 1 Championships, if the bid comes in between our pick and Ports pick.

I might be wrong here but I don't think we can use Ports pick for matching so it's basically a first round pick at wherever Port end up.
