Hey question for the draft watchers.. is ballenden really a top draft choice? Or is he being built up a bit?

Every independent draft person I have tweeted (the likes of Twomey, Brett Anderson, Wallace, Sheehan, Brenton Sanderson) has said top 10 at this stage, but who knows where he might be come seasons end

I do not know about the others, but Sanderson being the ex AFL Academy head coach, and Twomey who attends a lot of the academy training and games, and talks to a lot of team scouts, are the two I would pay attention to. When Twomey has written or spoken about Ballenden, he always mentions that he's only seem glimpses of what Ballenden can do. One thing I have read (and possibly mistakenly) is that Ballenden hasn't put together a dominant game, or possibly even a dominant half, except last years game against a very weak Tasmanian side.

Something else to look at during the U18 champs will be the make up of the Allies team compared to the other states. At this stage the Allies are likely to play the top two rated KPF's in Jarrod Brander from NSW and Ballenden from Brisbane, highly rated ruck/forward Brayden Crossley from the Gold Coast, and GWS ruck Nathan Richards. That's a lot of tall talent.

W.A., TAS and Vic Country at this stage do not have a name KPF or ruck to speak of. S.A. has highly rated ruck/forward Callum Coleman-Jones and Vic Metro has Ruck Sam Hayes and KPF Hayden McLean.

There's going to be a lot of expectation and eyes on the Allies side, and unlike the other states, Ballenden will be sharing the spotlight. If he doesn't perform, or is out performed by the others, it's possible he slides somewhat.

Interesting, on 360 they were just talking about when Clarkson built the Hawthorn side, in 2004 they had 5 draft picks inside the first 26 and in 2005 they had 5 draft picks inside the first 22. And had N Thompson, J Hey and N Lonie as trade bait.

Another 6 goals today for Liam Ryan in the WAFL. His goal kicking tallies per round so far-

Round 1: 3
Round 2: 6
Round 3: 2
Round 4: 2
Round 5: 6
any updates on how his aerobic fitness levels are going lionshine? beep test results? has to be better now than the 10.2 from last year surely. somebody has to give him a go in the draft this year even if it's a 4th/5th rounder or rookie spot.

No I doubt we'll get an idea of where that area of his game is at until the end of this year. If his fitness hasn't improved this year, however, you might have to start questioning his desire to play at the top level? Perhaps he is content playing footy with his mates and dominating at WAFL level. Super talent though.
