The Saints supporters insist it was 4 & 7 for 1 & 21 but I'm not convinced pick 21 was the roadblock in the deal. I think the Saints had settled on their future KPF and would only trade if they were blown out of the water, e.g. 4, 6 and 7, which would've been ridiculous.

Fair enough, I can't remember reading it in any article, so mostly likely was around here.

Thinking about it a bit more, GWS tend to be generous when targeting certain players or picks, paying overs wouldn't have hurt, and as you stated losing out on a second rounder wouldn't have been a roadblock for them.

Yep mate spot on I've said it before but I played some junior rep footy with Daryl junior and William I think the other boys name was. Absolute freaks, both of them played their first games at the rep carnival and were both selected in the team. This team also included a young Matt hammaleman & Keays, I am a bit hazy but I think Dawson was there too. All stand outs at that age but were outshone significantly by the white boys. The younger one in particular was a freak. Both incredibly naturally gifted athletes.

Not sure about tackle counts. It's good but if you get a lot of them then it looks like they are always 2nd to the footy. We want someone who is proactive in the clearances not reactive. Would be more beneificial to see the number of clearances the players got imo.

We've actually been doing really well with clearances with year. I wonder if there is a stat on forward half tackle count though.. especially forward 50. I think we will be struggling with that, also 1%ers, pressure acts etc in the forward half. We need to improve that aspect IMO.

Luke Davies-Uniacke had 32 disposals and kicked 6 goals for Haileybury in his school game on Saturday. Lachlan Fogarty is at St Kevin's College and was quiet on Saturday. Cam Rayner is at PEGS school and was another who had a quiet game on Friday.

When TAC Cup is at full strength it's far above private school footy - but you could make a case at the moment with the TAC Cup being weaker with school kids missing from the 'bigger' & 'better' teams that two of the stronger school boys team clashing will be a better standard than some of the TAC Cup games.

The generally consensus from clubs over the weekend was the TAC Cup standard was woeful on the weekend - a lot of clubs preferring school footy in Vic at the moment over the next 5-6 weeks.

Scouting notes: Strong contested marking forward who will fit well into the Lions forward structure. Has played through the ruck and as a key position defender to start 2017 – but his best position is coming out of the goalsquare. Very good set shot routine, kicking more goals than he misses.

Last month: A disappointing start to the season with the Brisbane Lions Academy prior to this weekend’s breakout game. Ballenden spent most of the game in the ruck, with 24 hit-outs and won 17 disposals. Played in defence at times for the AFL Academy, looking a bit slow and out of place. Is a natural forward and despite the slow start it’d be hard to see him not collecting a bid in the top ten at this stage.
