If we don't rate him we won't match it?

Plenty of academy guys we didn't rate at where they were taken so didn't match. IIRC reading someone who went to the Melbourne draft function and the recruitment teams spoke of this exact scenario with Declan Watson was it?

Nothing sucks about getting a top 10 rated KPP.

If he's anything like our last first round KPP from the academy I don't think anyone would be complaining.

I'm not complaining Billy, it is more right now we're likely going to score the best KPP in the draft (I rate him higher than Brander) for pick 18 + change all the while scoring 2 top 15 draft picks. It would suck if the Pies force our hand, would it not?

I mean it wouldn't be really forcing our hand if he's rated that high? Guess I'm being a little petty here just didn't like the doom and gloom comments I was reading if someone went early on him.

If we rate him that high we'll pull the trigger if not then I guess he'll be in different colours.

Sharing from KMs thread.
If Collingwood did have Brander in their sights, Saturday's game might cause a rethink. He was below average.

Lol Billy, I said it would suck not the world will end? I highly rate Ballenden and would happily match, but like any supporter I'd hope we can walk out with a real haul. Selfish I know..

And lure him back in 2 years for a second round pick.

I can see them going Brander if he tests well. Brander is the concensus best KPP. Fortunately I think our lug in Ballenden is better ;)

Is Jack Higgins a chance to be available at pick 14?

Wouldn't mind a little pocket rocket with an incredible work ethic.
Yeah, like the sound of Higgins. Smaller players tend to slide more and at 178cm he's the smallest in Twomey's top 20. Plus I'm pretty hopeful Port will lose against WC and we'll have pick 12.

Pick 1, 14, 18 For GC 19, 22, 24, 33, 2018 first round...

19 Worpel
22 Cameron
24 Ballenden
33 McKenna
73 Payne

The first rounder in 2018 could be very much worth it.

Was at the Oakleigh Chargers v Bendigo Pioneers game yesterday. Only the second time I have seen O'Brien live. Quite impressed given he is playing in a very ordinary Pioneers side. He has an inside game which I think can be developed at senior level but definitely does his best work on the outside. His disposal is clean and precise and he has good pace.
Brander played up forward for the Pioneers. Looked very disinterested and uncompetitive on the rare occasions that the ball went into the Bendigo forward line.
I am and always have been a Jack Higgins fan. Probably should have had 8 goals but Toby Wooller refused to pop the ball over to him when was standing 25 metres on his own in the goal square. Played the entire game up forward. Is not the fast dynamic small forward most teams are after; more an opportunist but has an instinct around the goals, can take an overhead mark (despite suggestions to the contrary) and is a very accurate set shot. He lacks pace which is his biggest knock but the club that drafts him will get a real workhorse. He would present no go home risk. The kid is desperate to succeed.

Cheers for the update man, can you please give us an update how Charlie Thompson and went in this match ?

Best game I've seen from Thompson (from the few I've seen).
Great Stats: 43 disp (38 Effective), 5 Tackles, 5 goals

Fair to say that his stats were inflated a little due to the lack of pressure applied by what was a poor opposition on the day (for the first three qtrs at least) and quite a few "give & gets" (24 H/B receives), but that aside, I thought he was close to, if not, BOG. Most would say Higgins (7 goals from 14 possessions). What I liked most was not the volume of possessions, but his in & under work and his disposal/set shot accuracy by foot.
I certainly marked him down as one to keep an eye on, especially in the finals where the pressure will be far greater (one would expect). He could be a good value late pick, in that contested Mid category that we need.

FWIW, it was interesting that the Commentators referred to him needing to develop his "gut running" ..... kind of reminds me of Oliver in his draft year (and not just that comment, but the way he went about it on Saturday).

Another who caught my eye (again) in that game was Ed Richards (Med Def) - super cool & very efficient down back (can't recall him missing with any disposals) ...... may not be a priority need for us, but someone else I will be "following" in the finals when the intensity will be up a notch.

Theres always the go home factor in our favor if we dont match a bid.

No offence to Brisbane as a city, but I feel the big city vibes of Melbourne, food, culture, extra endorsement opportunities/ and playing in front of bigger crowds, more regularly, somewhat inhibit most go home factors. Dayne Beams is obviously the exception, due to family reasons. If we don't match a bid for Connor and he goes to a big Melbourne club like Collingwood... good luck getting him back to the lions!
