I wouldn't and the club won't either. The depth of this draft is weak but the top end talent is still strong IMO.
Mmmmm I really struggle to agree with this.

Few kids in this years draft have had the type of seasons we saw from McGrath, McCluggage, Ainsworth, etc last year.

I can see Rayner being a damaging forward, similar to what Dusty or Dangerfield are like when up forward, to big and strong and can mark over the smaller defenders, to fast and athletic for bigger defenders. Even if he never develops a tank for the midfield, he can be a damaging medium forward and suits the "modern" game.

I'm not doubting the potential for some of the kids to be special, it's more that most of this years top dozen or so have been pretty underwhelming this year.

Well I think the top 5 or 6 will be a strong but I feel after that it is a so-so draft going by what professionals are saying. Also a few of the top prospects have had injuries that have inhibited them as well which isn't great.

Why would we use pick 1 to gamble on their next season?
I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the idea, but if you could identify a team that would be guaranteed to finish bottom four next season, and they would do the trade, you'd have to give the idea genuine consideration.

Most of the BF, and some of the media, draft watchers have said they would easily have 2 or 3 of next years kids as this years number 1 pick, or ahead of this years draft crop, if they were draft eligible in 2017.

The same couldn't have been said the past couple of years.

I'd swap GC pick 1 for their first rounder next year...

Why? We don't need either of the Kings or Lukosius. I'd rather take the best of what we can this year and even if we rise up the ladder it looks like the talls will be the feature of next year and we can just take the best mids, Hopefully from around 10th.

Bird in the hand for me.

I've posted a simple question around on twitter and here on BF.

Who would you rather have, Paddy Dow or Sam Walsh.

Paddy Dow, been heavily linked to Brisbane and is almost a consensus top 5 rated kid in this years draft.

Sam Walsh, probably the Geelong Falcons most consistent and best midfield player this season, but is in next years draft. Is viewed as a consensus top 10 pick in next years draft.

Campbell Walker (nickname: Jesus) is the only one, I'd say, and I'm hoping for the second coming. Was in the bests a number of times, great as a small pressure forward, who can take a mark. Not sure if he'd be ahead of Sambono, but he is younger than Sambono, I think. Very clear that the coaches loved him, which might help.

Sam Copland who played as a medium sized forward in the first 6 games was also impressive but was then injured, so I'm not sure where that leaves him.
I know there were indications given to Copland (he is the kid from Sherwood, yes??). But he disappeared, what was the injury?

I know a few academy boys who were told by clubs they would take a punt on them if available but weren't picked up at all. Must be bloody disappointing

I personally feel Walsh easily based on under 17 years. Dow has come on lateish, not that there is anything wrong with that. But Walsh has been truly dominant this year.

Yeah, two replies where the persons sat on the fence, highlighting the different style of play between the two.

Everyone else picked Walsh ahead of Dow, some still noting Walsh is more of an outside player.

What a draft 2018 will be. I feel for a team like north, we should be looking at what is in offer next year and let that help us determine where we go pick wise this year.

Eg: if Walsh or Rankine are there for next year maybe we go with Cerra this year, by passing Stephenson (assuming both are available of course).

Dont let tomorrows sunshine ruin todays clouds.....or was that dont let tomorrows clouds block todays sunshine? HHHHmmmmmmm

I am hoping we take Rayner in the draft. I think he is the sort of player who will bring a real element of excitement to the club and we have to back in our ability to retain him beyond his initial contract.
Anything to get bums on seats and memberships sold.......as long as he hangs around.....bring back the COLaaaaaaaa
