It'll be interesting to see which way we go at number 1. But would be very happy to get two of Brayshaw, Clark, Zac Bailey or Worpol with 12 and 18. Clark put up 16 tackles in one of the last games and I do really like Bailey's attack on the ball/man and isn't slow either.

Dogs and now Tigers have shown a different way of winning the GF with constant pressure/tackling and having a smaller team you would say. Still a big believer that it's a lot about winning contested ball and think that it's not only the midfielders that need to win contested ball but all players now. Thus the names I've put up who are players that can win their own ball.
I agree 100% WRT the importance of contested possession. It's probably no shock we finished the season last, and contested possession (last in the comp) and forward pressure were two of our weakest areas.

If last years draft was anything to go by, I wouldn't be surprised if we draft LDU #1 with the hope of getting Clark and/or Bonar with our later picks. Would be pretty pleased if that were the case
Yup, I'm still a big fan of LDU and he's my preferred option at #1.

But we could go a number of directions.

Could Boner be a Bontempeli type. Big mid who can go forward.

Or Clark, two footed who can play inside and out.

More and more it's looking like #18 could be a live pick. If we go contested possession players with our first two, ideally i'd hope O'Brien will be there at #18.

Hmmm, all 3 are Stingrays as well. Not that I want to start something but I reckon th club would be ok if Rocky left for Tier2/3. Can be used for possible Cameron trade and also still have 3 live picks in the top 20.

So are u saying no to Ballanden?

Honestly could go any way with pick 1. Earlier in the season I was all about Dow, now I'm not so sure. IMO Dow just lacks the composure needed for the modern inside mids but his athletic ability is probably the best of the top talent although a case could be made for Stephenson as well but I fear he will struggle to win enough CP at AFL level with his frame. We want a ball winning inside mid for first pick this year. Cerra I think will slide after being in considerations for pick 1 so any club with a mid to late top 10 pick will get a great talent for 'cheap'.

Took me long enough getting you lot to get on the Stephenson/Dow bandwagons for pick one. ;)

Definitely one of the better talent spotters on this forum for sure!

Initially Stephenson isn't going to win much contested ball at AFL level, but is a great height to play midfield in the AFL. However, when he fills out watch out. He plays like Bontempelli, runs like Gaff and kicks goals like Steve Johnson. Going to be an unreal player!

And goes for the Lions... Wins all round

Bonar has already done 2 ACL's. I personally wouldn't be using a first round pick on him. Would be worth taking a punt with a 2nd or 3rd rounder but first round is a bit of a stretch given the risks.

I understand what you are saying, but there was an article from Cal Twomey that did explain that the second acl operation was required because the first operation wasn't done correctly. So Boner hasn't really done 2 acl's, but rather has had two surgeries to repair the one injury.

First one didn't take properly, so it let go. He'd be talked about top 5 if not for his injuries.

The combine will be very interesting this year, with a few top players with question marks. Will be good to see how Bonar tests, also hope Rayner is able to do the endurance testing and think that LDU might cop some challenging interviews about his level of commitment to football.

Rayner isn't testing.

All these kids have been tested to death during the elite talent programs, not sure what value draft camp has anymore.
I see value in that we can track their development and improvement with data from successive testing days from the U16's onwards. These are still kids, so it is good to see that they are improving every 6 months, and if they aren't [cough]Rayner[/cough] you want to know why.

It'll start going the way of the NBA draft combine, where if you're viewed as a first round talent, you won't do the physical testing or skills test. Just the interviews.

Why risk damaging your potential draft position.
So NBA players just choose not to test?

I had a feeling that there's a rule that requires afl players to do the tests here?
