Thomas Berry was discussed earlier in the year on this board and I have also seen a few posts about him on the DT&FA board and he has been rated pretty well eg. around pick 20 next year. I have zero on Charlie's brother.

FWIW:
Tom had a pretty good "under-ager" year for GWV Rebels. A bit like big brother, in that he is hard at it. Spent a fair bit of game time in the midfield/stoppages, in the games I saw.
Just checked my notes - 3 games seen - once as BOG, once in the top 3 & once in the top 6 (those ratings are based on "draftable" attributes/glimpses etc). Also mentioned looked as impressive as Big Bro - could even be better. Did have a slight question mark on his kicking (but everything else outweighed that)

Same team, Dale Cox - I noted related to Cedric (but not sure if his brother) - not too many "ticks" and no notes other than quick small forward.

Young Cameron (Jarrod, I believe) - I have not seen play.

Agree on the trading up strategy Dodongo to make certain of at least 2 picks in before Ballenden bid.

BUT Josh Schache was/is a Lions supporter as well and was very keen to come here by all accounts.

On a sample of one (schache) it seems that some of these young fellas may prefer to be Lions supporters in Melbourne to being Lions players in Brisbane.:(

Dodongo mentioned it the other day and will mention it again. If the club thinks Collingwood will bid on Ballanden then we'll either give up 12 for Cameron or trade 12 for a first next year or use it to move to the top 5. Dodongo thinks having pick 12 is pointless if we have to use it on Ballenden.
If he's bid on under twenty let him go lets just move on does anyone genuinely believe he's worth matching under a twenty odd pick let's use our picks for what we really need tell crows to get stuffed we will grab Charlie for free next year I would be happy to take our top four picks to the draft and grab Payne late if we can I like the big fella

That would have been easier to read with a full stop or comma. It's not as simple as saying is he worth pick 19-20 as with the discount it's more like pick 26-27. Athletic 2m tall players with good skills who are really low risk of ever leaving won't get passed by a team picks him in the top 10. He was rated by most as a top5 pick last year so the talent is there.

Like most talls he will just take some time to develop.

Worth keeping an eye on for next year. Thanks for the info. Was thinking maybe charlie camerons want to come to brisbane is that next year when his bro gets drafted (be nice to think it could be to the lions) his parents then want to move back. He could be wanting to get here n set up a family home.

I am interested to know at what Pick number (if a bid comes ) we either would match or pass on Ballenden.

Would it be something like 10?

12?...15?

The Club would surely have some notional "break even" point.

I have very little idea how we would go about quantifying it and am happy to defer to minds that are far superior to mine in such matters.

I wait in hope for enlightenment

Videos with some of the top draftees are on the draft and trading board in the U18 Champs section.
what happens if we get a draft penalty on our 2nd rounder for matching a bid without enough points but then we trade out our future second? I assume we either can't trade it out or the points get taken off our future first?
Points would come off our third round pick, fourth round pick, and then carry over in to 2019 to come off our 2019 second round pick.

Tom is a far bit quicker than Jarrod and yes loves the contest

Like many on here I've got very little idea of what the clubs notional break even point would be. Personally I would think anything after 10-12 would be worth matching. Most of us on here let the emotion take over but I'm sure Fagan & Ambrogio would have set x value. Declan Watson last year shows that the club are in the ball, rewatching the draft we much have passed in record time which means the club are prepared for every scenario.

Josh barracked for North but yes he was keen to come here.

Clayton Oliver who was picked just after Josh was a Lions supporter.

All teams have players individually ranked on a draft board. I wouldn't have him in the top 10 let alone 20. If someone bids early then just let him go.

Geez that’s a sliding doors moment (and not of the Barrett variety). If we knew what we had in Hipwood not sure we would’ve gone with Schache but we absolutely had to at the time....

It is and seems perfect now but hypothetically imagine the shitstorm we would have received; a team desperate for a key forward, passing on the unanimously best one in the draft, that had a family connection to the club for a big midfielder that didn't make the Champs but had a huge finish to TAC.
No one but 1/20 fortune tellers would have suggested that route. Oliver is a gun but it was never a sure thing. Same could be said for Hipwood turning into such a gun forward. Lot of arguments he should have been pick 1 but no pressure on other clubs for not making offer in the top 10.

Exactly right. It's a lottery after all.

Absolutely spot on. As I said in the post we just had to take Schache, no option at all.

On the bright side back then if someone had told this board about what was going on now we would’ve torn AFL house and the Gabba down. This year as it’s happening the general vibe is its the right thing to do for all parties and we’ll be ok.

2 Years is a long time in football... glad we’re in this end of it, Schache or no Schache.

Simple rule of thumb on draft selection...... take the best available player......amen
We tried that with Aish, Docherty, Polec and Longer. No point in choosing the best player if he doesn't want to be a long term player for us. We need to select the best talent with the least likely hood of getting home sick. Cedric Cox is the perfect example.

Wash your mouth out mate, in no world was Longer the best available talent.
