Yep. We are always going to be compared with them because we are starting together. But l think long term they will have the better team unfortunately. Their key defensive posts are done. Curnow looks awesome. Their midfield will be pretty darn good with a few more additions but more from other teams. And l still think we are going to be losing players every now and then

With all this chatter about kids dictating almost which state they get drafted too the AFL has let a monster grow. They need to step in perhaps make it a 4 year no refund contract for first rounders , this mummy boy mentality has to be cut short , not only for us but all clubs

The leaking of hear say that particular kids want to play for clubs that have lower picks to add doubt about the go home factor needs to be squashed right now.

Forty odd years ago they'd be going to Vietnam to dodge bullets, not &$#*&^ tackles!

I'll just pop the Membership Forms for the Over 50's Clique into the post. Anyone old enough to remember Vietnam is an automatic member.

Is it draft time yet?
Last year I was all excited for the draft. This year I'm like, can we just get it over with so we see who we pick.
Pick one is all about who is the least likely to "go home" and not about who is the best player.
Picks 15 and 18 are all about "please *** let Clark slide to us". There's no Witherden, Berry or even Cox.
I've almost got more interest in who we pick up late, once ballenden has been bid on.
I'm so close to saying, "ah **** it, lets just draft Cam Rayner and Lachlan Fogarty" and hope for a slider not named Constable at pick 15.
I think a lot of people are feeling a bit this way. Wonder if it is because we have been hearing for 12 months that this is a "weak" draft it has everyone down about it. I'm not passing judgement about if it is or isn't weak, but the year long talk is enough to turn people off this draft. Especially when they seem to spend so much time already talking about next years draft.

Similarly, Korean War memories qualify anyone for a Sexagenarian Set nomination, age correlation notwithstanding, because:

a) You, amazingly, still have a functioning memory (albeit Long Term, at least)
b) You even know there was such a thing*

(did you see how I avoided the "C" word .... ???)

Very similar feelings and as trikster noted it’s mostly driven from the ‘weak’ draft feel. I kind of agree in justvtake Rayner and his mate but then I feel that if it really is that bad of a crop then take the player who will have the better chance of having a consistent career. Then I remember how Petracca can tear a game apart in 5mins and come back to Rayner. Just hope that the 3 we walk away with in the first round makes me at least a little bit excited.

Anyone who uses the post has to be in the clique. Interesting that it didn’t occur to you to email him the forms.

Forms, plural? Is that so members can declare foreign citizenship, or do you need more than one in case you can’t remember where you put the first?

Apart from Clark sliding, kinda hoping that Gryan Miers slides to the pick in the mid to late 40s that we should get back from Ballenden matching. 7 goals in a TAC cup grand final is a good indication of future success in my view and fills our need for a small forward.

It's a better idea than resuscitating Hartung.

Going for Rayner now after the comments about serious go home risk concerning Dow (shame as l really liked him).
1. Rayner
2. Clarke
3. O'Brien
Ballenden
Payne/Sambono

Rayner said in an AFL.com interview that he would prefer to stay in Melbourne. You don't say that unless you are planting the seed of draft-tampering thought.

He’s not the only kid to turn around and say they want to stay at home. If the AFL don’t think it’s happening then they’re fools. Something has to happen and soon.

Chris Johnson is the best example of relevance to us. Who'd have thought then that he'd turn out to be a gun small defender.

What can they do though, other than to have longer tenures when coming into the system?
Clubs ask players how they'd feel about playing in another state and shouldn't they tell the truth?

We have though had players that were single minded about playing for one club and one club only.
They're the problem ones and the players that play up through interviews, just for clubs to avoid them.

When a player enters the draft, he knows full well that he may have to settle interstate. No point crying about it after the fact.
I understand how you feel losing Schache for relatively little, but I just get the feeling he's going to have 'issues' whichever state he plays in.

There needs to be severe punishments for clubs getting in the ears of top draftees or their management. Longer intitial contracts - force them and their families to commit long term would be nice, too.

Lol, what's a "contract"?

Agreed, but longer contracts would at the very least give the clubs more power and get more value back for the traded player, with the exception being someone like Schache for obvious reasons.

Interestingly enough the Korean War never technically ended. Neither side surrendered and there was no truce or peace treaty, just a poorly observed armistice. So it's been going for 67 years or so. :drunk:

Thats interesting indeed S.M. You may also like to factor in this inside info.I got today.Interviews are proceeding as we speak. Dow,surprisingly to me for some reason,is considered the most likely go home risk, and that is now very much against him.Rayner, has limitations at present, but presented verywell, and it is thought he is very suited to the off field and socialisation factors. He is liked by his team mates. On the other hand LDU,is seen as quiet, and maybe lacking drive.Concerns also after Scache, and personality type. The big mover ,is Brayshaw, who ticks all boxes and not many do in this draft, for our needs. He understands the job,is a dedicated professional, from a family who knows what its like, and is ready to play as contracted, and make a life for himself.even in Brisbane apparently! Cerra, Bailey and Clarke remain of interest, the latter two not first picks of course...I guess.Ballenden should be after pick three, given the only clubs who might need him have such early picks...they wont be using them on him.
