Heart problems are common and no doubt we have footy players running around with undiagnosed conditions. I don't know the full extent but I guess it's not that bad? He didn't know he even had a problem to begin with.

With this in mind, a dream draft to me looks like:
Pick 1 - Rayner/Brayshaw (I honestly don't mind which)
Pick 15 + 18 - two of Stephenson, LFogarty, Bonar, Clark, Allen, Richards, et al (just whoever is left).
Pick 40 - matches Ballenden
Pick 44 - Worpel
Pick 52 - Whoever the club rates. Maybe a Sambono, Will Walker, Jackson Ross, Houlihan, Answerth, etc.
Rookie 1 - Hartung
Rookie Academy - Payne
Of course, better still would be Rayner at 1, Brayshaw at 15, LDU at 18 etc, etc, but you know... in the real world.
Ainsworth easily. Potential to dominate up forward but will also play midfield next season. Less of a potential bust than Rayner. If you had a choice between Ainsworthn(in his draft year) and Rayner, who would you pick for the best long term player
Ainsworth by a mile. Pity we don't have that choice. If you had a choice between Ainsworthn(in his draft year) and Rayner, who would you pick for the best long term player

Rayner hands down if he hits his potential.
Lachlan Fogarty is not just there to keep Rayner happy. He is a very good player. Would be happy with those three in the first round.

Not a chance I draft Hartung in the National draft. That's giving him a guaranteed 2 year contract, when next year teams are going to want as many list spots and options as possible going in to the draft.I'd be happier with Rayner, if we could get Worpel at 44, plus 2 mids/ players with speed at 15/18.
Not a spot to rookie Hartung if we rookie Claye Beams, as we have committed to. (only 4 cat A spots, 3 already filled.)
If we don't take Payne at 52, he might not last to the rookie draft. If we have no list spots left, we can't match. I'm not sure we'd take that risk, I think Payne will come to us with a matched bid, or our last selection.
It's possible we could take Hartung at 44 or 52, if we want him. We could pass on our last selection to open a PSD/rookie spot, but I can't see the advantage in that.
Actually I have hardly mentioned him as a flight risk. You keep hammering Rayner as a flght risk.
WHY?
Yeah, we will take him at 15 if available (seriously doubt it though). Bet both of my nuts on it.
Who ever picks him up will get the bargain of the draft. The Stephenson camp with their medical experts reviews have said his playing ability will not be affected by this development and it will have no impact on an AFL career. Lions have had some eyebrow raising medical assessments in recent times as well so it would be a huge call on their part. Our medical team have serious concerns about how he would fare with his condition up here in the heat. They have completely ruled him out.

They also ruled out Joel Selwood for Luenberger. Due to the lack of quality midfield depth at pick 15, I would rather us take a punt on Stephenson. Our medical team have serious concerns about how he would fare with his condition up here in the heat. They have completely ruled him out.

So you place more significance in the medical field from Stephenson's camp, more than the numerous clubs who also have medical teams? It's a shame that one of the top draftees who supports the Lions has such a condition but it's just how it is. Lions won't be picking him, even if he lasted till pick 80.Who ever picks him up will get the bargain of the draft. The philosophy has always been that the best K P players are found at the high end of the draft. We delisted Close, Hammer, Schache and according to Twomey we have Brander available to us at pick 18 and we select a mid who appears to be nothing special? I find that really puzzling. Twelve months ago Brander was touted as the number one player in the country and we pass on a versatile KP player who according to Luke Power is a better CHB?
I will wait for Friday with anticipation and a little dread, maybe.
If it was Christmas, we would wake in the morning with pressies to unwrap.OMG!! It's finally CHRISTMAS eve! We can finally know what Santa is going to bring us tomorrow.
Whoever we select at one is a massive flight risk. Sorry to be a sook but its the truth. Lets hope this time we can beat the odds.
You're right, you're being a sook.
How about instead of stressing over something like that we focus on backing our club in to retain talent, especially with the strongest off field team we've had in...ever?
