As for focussing on speed in this years draft.

O'Brien and Ling are two of the fastest kids likely to be available in the first round. But they are very outside. So much so that they registered sub 20% contested possession rates at the U18 Championships. And there is an extreme amount of evidence, thanks to Champion Data, that kids with below 30% contested possession rates, no matter how good their speed and skills are, rarely make it at AFL level.

Recruiting teams need to look at each kids whole package, and not just one aspect of their game.

The Dusty Martin's, Nat Fyfe's and Dangerfield's of the competition are freaking unicorns, not a common player found in every draft or on every AFL team.

Two entirely different players I know but if Richmond happen to pinch Bailey from under our noses, I'd seriously consider taking Constable at 18.

Yeah, I know he's slid in the phantoms AND he's supposed to be slow as treacle but he's big and strong, has a good pair of hands and looks like a footballer with smarts to me.

Could do a lot worse methinks

If we draft Constable at 18 22Lions22 will implode

Yes a little emotional but I disagree on Berry and McCluggage cannot be quickest available or last years draft was a slow draft.

Neither has exhibited the speed and agility to break a tag and dominate a final or be a ball winning freak.

That doesn't mean they won't fit into a finals team somewhere, fill players not players driving the effort or inspiring teammates to be better.
Tell that to Fyfe, Kennedy, Cripps, Bont...

I know it's been talked about as not happening...but if Stephenson was there and they took bailey at trying to be cute I'd snap him up at 18 in an instant..

Because they are kids, playing against men. They're 4 years away from having the body, core strength, and required number of preseasons under them, to show what they can do at an AFL level.

You're talking like you expect every kid to come as a finished product and impact straight away. Kids like SPP or Oliver are rare each draft. There's reasons why a kid like SPP got drafted where he did, has some elite traits, but also some genuine flaws.

I might not know much about the game, but I've been an avid draft follower for the past 4 years. It's what I do all year long. Last years draft had a lot of fast kids. Some didn't fit our recruiting teams focus, two got drafted before our first pick, a lot got drafted between our first pick and second pick. And two were drafted between our second and third pick.

Our focus at last years draft, players with elite disposal by foot with as complete a game as possible, McCluggage & Witherden. An inside mid to win the contested ball, Berry, and outside speed with very good disposal by foot, Cox. Then we added Allison who has elite speed, but the one knock on his game was his short kicking and propensity to spray his long kicks.

I agree, one definite scenario I have strongly considered.

The one knock on Constable is that when he wins the ball he becomes static. He doesn't keep moving like Cripps.

Not to early to show your speed.

Got it or you haven't hard to improve.

WA been pretty poor as far as talent goes the last few years. IIRC didn't they announce some big changes to the development system as the future ain't looking to good for junior WA footballers?

Yeah, they recognized the WAFL Colts system was too focused on the club level and restructured it a bit with an aim to bring on the kids more to improve their AFL draft prospects - after all that's what the aim of the kids are, which is different to what the clubs want.

I hope everyone knows about "18th 15-100+ scores against"

I think I missed it the first 4 times

11 more times to go seems fitting.

You mean you're not a spam bot?

I thought only computers failed the Turing test.
Lets not change the subject,
