I've no doubt Rayner, Bailey and Starc will develop into great onballers but they are listed at fwd/mids (and then we went for three KPPs). I know that listing is arbitrary but it feels a bit at odds with our need for midfielders?

Worth noting that Wooller played some time through the middle as a junior.

At 193cm and 90kg it's possible that he's an inside midfielder at AFL level and not a KPP. Ran 6:32 for the 2km which is pretty good at his size.

Sounds like last year when we got Berry and Witherden who were seen as half black flankers at the time by most. Our recruiters thought they could turn them into midfielders and looks pretty good so far (got no doubt Witherden will be able to transition)

Saw him a bit for the Chargers this year. Definitely value as a mobile tall forward but no chance he will play through the midfield. Not that level of mobility.

Seems to be a real focus on potential rather than going for the safer picks. Happy to back in our development.

What sort of role could you see him playing for us down the line?

It’s modern afl really. Think Danger, Dusty,
Rocky,Cripps,Ablett,Beams would have been classified as as more a Fwd than mid early on. With KPF doing less, modern mids must kick goals. They will all play through the mid at some stage sans Conner and Payne. So stoked we went Rayner. Risk it for the biscuit I say and make the Lions exiting again!!

I think Wooler looks a likely modern day CHF was good get, thought he'd be gone by then.

Hartung couldn't hit a target at Auskick on a Sunday , we dodged a bullet there. We'll be kicking goals off his turnovers against Nth next year. Nth are in trouble we'll assert revenge on them next year bigtime!!!

Actually plays as a true FF at TAC Cup level. Good on the lead and strong hands. Could play alongside Hippy I reckon. Of course there’s always the possibility he could be turned into a defender. Too short to relieve in the ruck I would have thought although I have seen him do it at U18 level.

The cream of our youth stocks are shaping up to be a very exciting young group: Andrews, Hipwood, McCluggage, Berry, Witherden and Rayner. I think that group of 6 would stack up well in a "Name your top 6 young players" thread on the main board.

Not too mention the likes of Mathieson, Keays, Skinner, Cox, Allison and all of our other draftees from tonight. They have all either shown exciting signs already and/or are super talented.

Exciting times ahead for Lions fans!
