I don't believe we have spots for anyone else.

We should have either 1 or 2 selections at the Rookie Draft, depending on whether we get to have a rookie list of 8 as we're keeping on Matt Eagles, or back the usual 7.

J Barrett
M Hinge
O McInerney
M Eagles
C Beams
C Hanley
Rookie 1
?Rookie 2

I can confirm our recruiters had Starcevich listed as their 10th best player, while Bailey was in 8th. Club more than happy to get 3/10 top rated players.

They also view Starcevich as a Fyfe type - “in the mould” were the words. Very athletic and tested super well at the combine.
Any other good tidbits you want to relay from the Melbourne draft function?

Went to last year's event and would've gone again this year if it wasn't north-side

"their 10th best player"
Do you mean like they had 20 players on their board and he was the 10th, so missed out on 8 others we wanted OR that they had him as the 10th best player in the draft?

If that makes sense?

We have a Queensland zone selection as a Cat B rookie. (Grewar's spot) I hope we take Campbell Walker, but we could have someone else in mind like last year.
Dude on SEN tonight mentioned a team may select Sloan from our academy .... haven't seen much of him .

Both C Beams and Hanley have to be selected at rookie draft. In theory someone else could select them, but unlikely.
That gives us One cat A spot and two cat B... one Cat B for Hanley as Irish and one for Queensland zone. So really only one unknown rookie selection. I think it will be 7 not 8, but seems impossible to get confirmation on this. AFL is still making up the rules as we speak.

Played in the grand final and in the Allies squad. Goes all right. We can still list him as an academy selection for rookies. It's separate from National draft listing.

All recruiters have their own rankings list. Starc was viewed as 10th best overall in the draft.

They also said Ed Richards and Stephenson were not on our list. One a huge go-home factor and the other with the obvious heart issues.

If any draft is going to finally get it through some people thickish skulls that all recruiting group view things differently, it's this one. But I can bet next year that people will act incredulous and be on the point of self-harm when the draft industry groupthink is challenged yet again.

I’ll add Ethan Floyd as a consideration.

I'm with you on this.

I have a pair of Ethans as next on my board:

Floyd and Penrith.

Both offer speed, among other assets, and for me are just the type of development prospects we should be looking for in a Rookie Draft.

Odd stat for the night: never before has a team spent their own pick on one of their academy players, but it happened three times tonight as Crossley, Payne and Shipley were all taken with their respective teams' last pick.

Tiziani at 54 last year?

Amazing how the AFL is gifting us all these premierships with these unfair academies.

Ruining the game.

Good point. The other point is that how much misinformation is out there leading up to the draft...either because clubs genuinely change their opinions/decisions, or spreading false information to mislead other clubs.

Of all the information you throw out there, some has to bear a semblance of truth while some can be complete fabrications, in order for people to give that information some credibility. For example all the talk was Lachlan Fogarty to add to midfield depth and keep Rayner company...but overlooked for Starcevich who hadn't been linked to us at all. We were tipped to take Bailey at 18 and jumped on him at 15.

Did they say where they had the other boys rated?
