List Mgmt. 2017 draft thread

Naish adds a some nice spice to this year. Arguing/discussing where he will go (like we have any influence). If get bid on before any of our first rounders it becomes difficult - so a nice issue to discuss. (and that is what we are here for {Apologies to those that actually know what they are talking about})

But as Bishop keeps saying most draft 'experts' have Naish 15-25. And given that most FS guys get a later bid than their potential value he's likely to be ours for a later pick. Also this year there is a fairly even talent pool across that 15-25 range, so it just seems weird that a club would reach for Naish when they can get equal value with their before 20 picks.

Still, it is a cool discussion point to have compared to most years. Hopefully in future years we will have more FS/Academy players to talk about. Maybe get a Heeney quality player and have other club supporters getting crabby about us getting him cheap :D

And we have pretty much stated we are planning on going tall. And Balta is that very high potential, but unclear existing talent, player that slips to the mid teens. And if we have another first to play with then best available. You never can have too much midfield talent. But if another tall slips then off we go. That's my plan, and I will stick to it until I support whatever decision the club makes.

Yep seen him a few times for Marcellin. Very good pedigree mum played for the Opals and his uncle is Dean Brogan.

His ruck work is good, he's not a skinny/basketballer type that has a very good vertical leap - but more of a stronger bigger body that has a decent leap in the ruck. Has only played about 10 games of footy and his decision making/ball skills will improve as he continues.

Few clubs thought he'd just come back for Oakleigh next year as a 19 year old - but wouldn't surprise me to see him drafted now. Sam Hayes looks likely as the only ruckman drafted - so they'll be a few late like Joel Amartey/Bailey Griffiths/Joe Griffiths who might appeal to clubs.
Thanks mate. Was wondering if we might take a punt on him.

No. He isn't rising.

Gut feel says we'll keep both + grab Naish and get out of the draft.

But I wouldn't rule out a trade with Freo for Pick 5-6, think they're keen to get a pick in the teens.

But I still think we want one in the teens too, so we'll see.
ppl that had him 15-20 now have him top 15, C.Twomey has him ranked 10th now. that a rise in my book.

I find myself usually agreeing with most of the draft experts thoughts but not this year, is a very open draft.

This is not what I think will happen btw, but my ratings are

1. Cerra
2. Rayner
3. Brander
4. O'Brien
5. Foggarty
6. LDU
7. Dow
8. Balta

My dream draft would be Foggarty, Balta and Naish even though it is highly unlikely.

I don't rate Naish as a top 10 pick, in the 15 - 25 range for mine.

Sounds like an ideal Rookie pick. Are we still having Rookie picks? Wasn't their talk that the Rookie list was going to be abolished?

Bishop, lets say Dusty leaves and we hit the draft with 15, 16 & 17 in the draft. Assuming we don't trade out and Naish is bid on outside the first round, who would you take with those 3 picks that would give us the best immediate and long term impact.

Give all three for pick one and get the next Dusty... Rayner and then Tom Lynch via FA on a monster deal. In all seriousness though, good question.

Be creative and try and turn those 3 into 1-2 high picks in the 2018 draft.

3 picks in the teens + Naish doesn't really fill me with confidence in a weak' draft.

If we can get Balta, Brander/Garner, Naish & Wooller. I will be a very happy man.
Key is to make sure that we keep our 1st and 2nd for next years draft.
Maybe package Miles & Geelongs pick for Freos pick?

gary buckenara reckons naish goes pick 7 and will be bid on in the first round and we will 100% match

He ranked him 7th overall he doesn't think he'll go pick 7.

Anyone else really underwhelmed at the thought of drafting Naish? A soft outsider who will most likely go missing when the contested ball heats up AKA finals
Not at all. I'll back the recruiting staff in to make the right call on Naish. Fingers crossed its after our first round selections though.
