List Mgmt. 2017 draft thread

I really like Allen he impressed me play champs for WA. High marking, good set shot, athletic and good agility around the ground. I hope he gets to 17.

Not a huge fan of Hayes. Bit of a lumbering giant about him. Plus we already have a developing ruckman on the list in Soldo. Would rather get Spencer or the mature aged kid from WA.

Massive NO to Colman-Jones. Guy has the turning circle of the titanic. Crossed between a dinosaur and a baby giraffe.

If Naish doesnt get a bid before #25 and we get our 2 kpp and Ed Richards is still available i wouldnt mind this kid

Hard running BP/HBF with good speed and nice left peg, Kid has talent and reminds me a bit of Liam Picken and would be a good addition to play both midfield and small back

I get it, but how many do we need? Particularly with Naish as well.
Who knows, maybe there's a slider, Hayes?

Out of curiosity, have you seen Allen play? Why do you think he will be a bust? Few experts have us taking him with our first pick

Reminds me of Ben Lennon and is that in between size and height.

May as well hold onto Lenno.

Don't think we'll be calling his name out. Just a gut feel.

Having said that I think Lennon is just about done too. Players of his type are becoming extinct.

That highlight reel certainly doesn’t get the blood pumping.

Height doesn’t worry me as much as pressure, athleticsm and endurance do. Sure he’s undersized at 1.91M, but Jack Darling (1.91), Tom Lynch Adel (1.92) and Jack Gunston (1.93) - those types have all made it work. If he can build a massive tank and lead up the ground, he may be a player. Lennon is lazy and doesn’t tackle - which is why he is failing at AFL-level.

Take the highest ranked player that is not Naish. Let the other clubs decide Naish's market value.

I personally can see him sliding past 20 and maybe 25, no club is going to take him to spite us its a shite strategy. Only if they actually value him at that spot will any club take him and because he is F/S clubs won't spend as much valuable time and money scouting him like they would other players, Top 20 picks are too valuable and training draftees too expensive.

I don't see how any club takes him inside the top 25. Guys with no contested game are being spat out and replaced with less skilled guys with more endeavour. Just need to look at players like Toumpas, Aish, Pickett who are not only at their second club but struggling to get a game at their second club.

Agree. Wont be bid on until after 25.

What if we don't have a KPP that we rank around the 17 mark available, should we then reach for one who we might rank 23rd on our list just so we can say we got Naish on the cheap. That is what I'm trying to convey, quite poorly admittedly.

Yes - mate.

Because it's a free swing.

In the first round I might add.

Cmon?

if he is the ranga he is super raw

I would be pretty annoyed if the Bulldogs traded up to bid on Naish. Especially since have been gifted father/sons under the previous system Libba/Hunter/Cordy/Wallis

I will keep an eye on next year's draft more keenly and especially Rhylee West. If Rhylee West is rated around our pick 18 next year then it would be worth bidding on him also :D

Allen is much more athletic than Lennon, better endurance, agility, speed etc. Lennon finished in the bottom 5% for the agility test, Allen finished tenth. Lennon finished in the bottom half for the running jumps, Allen finished ninth for the running vertical jump. The knock on Lennon is that he has no endurance or speed and his ability to be agile and jump which is important as a third tall isnt there, he can't dodge and weave or take a mark and spin around or beat anyone in the air. Allens numbers suggest he can do that. Plus, Lennon was a forward flanker who wanted to make it as a midfielder, Allen is playing as a key forward and his testing results suggest that plan is far more likely. I wouldn't be surprised if when combining their height and running vertical jump that Allens reach is 15 or so cm more. That's a massive difference. Allen also has run a 14 beep test I very much doubt Lennon ever ran a 14 beep test as a junior.

There's more to a player than their height or size. Adding to what I said before he's co-captain of WA, Lennon has never shown leadership ability.

Dont think we bid on any Father Sons , We bid on Kennedy & Hipwood who were both Academy picks and although works the same bidding system its generally been the way that you leave the FS selections to later to give teams who will take them some value

Most had Wallis / Libba and SOS kid to go slightly earlie than they did and the same with Collingwoods 2 kids last year Brown & Daicos

Hoping they dont bid until after #29
Did anyone bid on Joe Daniher?
Essendon still got him cheap as from memory he could have gone 1 but I remember they still needed to use their 1st pick.

Or am I completely wrong?

Is he the fat kid sitting next to Scott West at the GF?

I would ideally like to take two Key position players and Naish. I would be happy if we can get two out of Hayes, Balta, Brander or Allen. I think us matching a bid will depend on if we we can get the players we want with the other picks.
I think we will always match a bid for naish. Some sources believe the next two naish boys to be better than Patrick. We wouldn't want to turn the whole family off the tigs

Any chance we chuck Wellingham a one-year contract for depth to cover Broady potentially missing 2018?

but didn't we do that to teams in the past. there is nothing underhanded in doing it.

Of course the bid will come but we bid 13 & 14 from memory on Kennedy and Hipwood who were rated top 5-10 picks.

It's only been 2 drafts but players eligible to be bid on have often gone lower then where they are rated by phantom drafters, especially as their range pushes further from the top of the draft.

Dogs will only bid if they really want him and feel we may not match. But we will so they won't.

Would have gone 1 but it was a different system. Clubs bid before trade week and Essendon just had to match with their next highest pick. If he'd been bid on by the club with pick 10 (bombers had 9 from memory), essendon would have had to use 27 to get him.
