I’m leaning towards Brander over Balta. He looks like a natural forward. Brander and Allen. Balta might not work as a forward.

Hold on is it just me that thinks we need some key backs? Realistically, how long do we think Rancey has left in the game? 3 years at most I'd say.

I agree with everything else you said but this comment about Rance in crazy talk.
Brian Lake played until he was 33! and he reportedly was a terrible trainer. You don't think Rance will be able to match that?
Was thinking about this last night. He has 2 years to run on his contract and now we've got a flag he probably pulls up stumps after that. Hope not though, reckon he'd have 4-5 good seasons leftTo be fair Rance has already flirted with retirement. Can see him walking away at the end of his contract, but I hope he doesn't!
Hold on is it just me that thinks we need some key backs? Realistically, how long do we think Rancey has left in the game? 3 years at most I'd say. At the moment we have him, Astbury (27 next season, and has been injury-prone throughout his career), Grimes (Same as Astbury and plays better on medium/smalls anyway), Garth (Looks like he could be a player but who knows) and Chol (I'm still no clearer on his best position).
I'm not disagreeing with those of you wanting a tall forward - if we can pick up Brander at 17 we do it, no questions asked, that's a steal: Jack only has so long left in the game. But for those of you wanting to pick up 2 KPFs or a KPF and a mid over Balta, I just think that's crazy: we're in the same position down back with Rance. In three-four years time, I'd rather have a talent who's played 3 years of VFL like Balta and is ready to make the step up with Garth into the AFL to take over from Astbury and Rancey. Otherwise, in 2021, we might have to be starting a freshly drafted 18 year old in the first team on Joey Daniher, and I don't like the sound of that. As much as I'd say right now I'd be fine with another 10 years of misery, when I get there, I doubt I'd be saying the same thing.
Therefore, my dream draft would be one of Brander/Hayes/Allen selected along with Balta and Naish as well. If someone like a Hugh Dixon or Claravino is available at our picks in the 50s then go for it. But don't sacrifice our defence, our greatest asset this year, going into the future: it's what wins flags

Would be great as a rookie onlyWhat's a people's thoughts on Hugh Dixion young KF from Tasse.Apparently we interviewed him.Got some good traits natural footballer.
Lets see us much controversy I can stir up with my adjusted ideal scenario.
17. Sam Hayes 203cm 93kg Ruck/Forward
Our current ruck stocks are Nankervis supported by rookie upgraded Soldo and injury prone Hampson(missed most of year with back) and Griffiths(head knock away from end of career). Hayes is a dual AA in the U18s and while Bishop has expressed some concerns about his tank a couple of years development should fix that. As mentioned Hayes is a ruck forward, which would make him the perfect foil to play alongside Nankervis alternating between the 2 positions.
20. Noah Balta 194cm 92kg KPP
A swingman who can play either end of the ground and even pinch hit in the ruck if needed. Initially I'd develop him at CHB as the only real developing back we have is Garthwaite while Chol gets thrown back when he isn't impacting up forward.
25. Oscar Clavarino 195cm 86kg KPD
As mentioned above we don't really have much in the way of KPDs in development. Clavarino has been spoken about as being one of the better defenders in the draft. Has good closing speed and takes intercept marks.
29/30. Patrick Naish 180cm 69kg Winger/Flanker
Despite the media hype I now reckon that Naish could actually slide down to pick 30 given the requirements of the sides between 15 & 30. Brisbane Geelong North Suns Giants & Eagles all need bigger bodied midfielders or KPPs. Melbourne at 29 would mean a 16 point deficit heading into next year. If I read the draft rules correctly the points come off our first pick in the draft which would have zero impact in terms of where the pick would end up. In other words if we were to have pick 18 it would stay at 18.
So there we have it folks. Have I gone too far the other way? Have I over rated anyone or am I dreaming about getting some of these guys where I've picked them.
You don't think Brander is mobile! He is a very good athlete and could almost play on a wing.Agility of 8.31s was far better than I expected, Speed 3.19s is slow - but seen worse for a tall. He isn't a mobile forward so no surprise.
He didn't run 2km/Yo-Yo.
As I've said for a while, I'd either take a key forward inside top 25 or don't take one at all.

Cool, thought Dixon looked a bit lumbering, so that makes sense. He is talking about high Dixon not Brander
Hopefully we end up taking all 3I’m leaning towards Brander over Balta. He looks like a natural forward. Brander and Allen. Balta might not work as a forward.
I reckon the bloke could play until he was 50! Realistically though, he nearly retired at 26. He always says what a big believer he is in having a rounded life, and I think that that will make up his decision to retire sooner rather than later, maybe after his current contract expires, maybe 1 year after that, no more or I'd be very surprised. To be fair Rance has already flirted with retirement. Did you forget about the forward half? We only have jack forward and he’s older than all of them. Most want Griff gone and we don’t know about Moore yet. We need a forward much more than a back and you forgot about Broad who plays back
Hopefully we end up taking all 3
#17 - Brander
#20 - Allen
#25 - Balta
#30 - Naish

Gotta read everything I said mate: I'd love one KPF (Allen/Hayes/Brander) and one Balta or the next best KPD. Absolutely we're missing forward talls! We just need both realistically to build a properly good team for the coming years as our young blokes continue to develop.
Also, Broad does not play on the proper talls, either he's a rebounding defender or locks down on players similar to what Grimesy does.
I think what he's saying is that we match a bid around #30 for NaishThat would set us up for a decade lol. We don’t have pick 30 though
