Sorry guys if I've missed this but is someone able to explain the current rule for F/S? As we haven't had many I don't know too much about it.

As I understand it, if someone else selects Naish before us, we have the right to take him but we use up our next selection in doing so? What's this talk of points?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I'd take Oscar Clavarino as a KPD if he was on the board at around our pick. Nathan Kreuger from SA another athletic tall that can play anywhere is another I like.
Changed your tune on Clavarino. Has his recent form impressed you?

Nah still the same tune, but it really depends with our picks and what is around. He's got flaws with his kicking and gets monstered against the bigger stronger talls - but he does some things right at the same time. What do we really need in terms of our team - we've addressed speed a lot over the last few seasons and looking at it a bit closer picks in a teens won't be as good as they probably would've been last year.

Each pick is given a points value, basically if a club bids on Naish with their Pick. Eg: Let's say Pick 30, we match it with our picks below that eg: if we had Pick 41 + Pick 58. We also get a 197 point deduction in what he is worth.

Eg: Pick 30 is worth 629 points.

We take away the 197 discount and we have to match it worth 432 points.

Pick 41 is worth 412 + Pick 58 is worth 170 = 582

(We would also get Pick 60 back to equal the equation --- Or in other terms our Pick 58 would slide down to Pick 60 as a result)

Balta may slide and be around our picks, I like him but he might go before us.

Cassidy Parish may be one we look at, Hardwicks type of player.
Balta looks very natural. I would be rapt to get him. KPF in the mould of Jeremy Cameron.

Im thinking we are going to end up with picks around 11-14 with both our picks close together, We are borderline top 8 atm with reasonable juniors and still a few yet to be given a run. Chol,Soldo,Bolton,Stengle,Garth. Moore looking promising with graham still to get started

I would be looking to
1. Hold onto Dusty
2. Trade both selections for players under 22/23 (jones & Schache would be great) and really like Hopper as well
3. Get 1 free agent like Jackson trengove and or Sam Reid at reasonable cost without over paying too much
4. Trade some fringe players Edwards,Batchelor,Miles
5. Cut Deep - Hunt,Maric,Broad,Lennon,Townsend,Morris,Elton,Hampson (contracted but cant get on the park so deal with him to retire early)

Alas if contracted we don't have much power to make them retire I think - Yarran is still in our list technically I beliieve

He missed we get a 20% reduction or 197 points. Whichever is higher, so basically from pick 1-17 20% is higher

It'd be unlikely for him to be in the top 17 players - so it'll be a 197 point deduction, We won't have any issues matching it - we can even go into deficit if we really had to.

If we could trade both our late first round picks for pick 1 or two, we could choose the best kpf in the draft.
Thoughts?

If the later finished the way that it is now we'd have picks 13 and 17. According to the AFL picks calculator that's the equivalent of pick 3 (a tiny bit over in our favor). So it's definitely something we'd be looking at I'm sure.

Finding a club willing to do the deal though obviously the hard part.

So if we finished now, we'd have 13 & 17, and if Naish fell through to 20 we could select him then. Would be a great result - we'd just have to hope no-one picks him before then.

If Naish is rated top 15 by season's end, then your idea is clearly the smart thing to do, even if we trade for unders like a pick #5. Keep two first round picks but make one of them a top 5 pick. Essentially finish with a pick in top 5, then match Naish with 15. Picks 5 & 15 > 13 & 17.

So Naish performing at TAC level this season is greatly in our interests.

Did one of the Queensland clubs swap an early first round pick for multiple later first round picks in the last draft?

Kind of.... in 2015 Gold coast traded Pick 3(Oliver) and pick 10(Weideman) for Melbourne's pick 6(Ah Chee), pick 29 and 2016 1st rounder(ended up being pick 9, Brodie).

Port got pick 9 and 19 from Sydney for picks 14, 17 and 31 last year. Can't really find any other similar deals from the quick look I had...

Trying to download attach a file of the mark my son took for Bendigo Pioneers last weekend, but no can do. So as a proud dad wanting to show off,
can find it on TAC Cup Facebook page > Videos > First video, Time for the Round 6 edition of the TAC Towards Zero etc... No.2.... good grab!

What's his name?

I reckon it's even harder this year - last year there was a bit of incentive as you could make a case that some of the players in the 10-20 were a lot better than that and trading a Pick 7 for Pick 11 & 18 for example might be worth more in the long run.

This year the depth isn't there and I think there's a pretty clear cut of names in the first round almost.

Yeah I know, was just completing the explanation as it's the same for all f/s and academy players.

Swans offered us 6 + 14 for pick 3 in 2009. Glad we said no ;)

Bishop what do you think of toby wooller? and paddy dow? how they play and where you think they will get drafted. seen someone have them falling to us in a phantom
I've seen a fair bit of Paddy Dow over the last few years and is an unassuming but get the job done type. Very strong inside player, with good agility and is also good overhead and played FF at times in Under 16's Pioneers. Seems to be best player or there a bouts in every game he plays for Pioneers, which aren't many due to Academy situation.

Have both ranked in the 20s, but I reckon Dow goes above Wooller on draft night.

Dow's an explosive (small/medium) inside midfielder who can push forward and hit the scoreboard at school level, but is yet to do that at TAC Cup level. A few clubs have him in conversations for close to the Top 10 so we'll see how that pans out and he was very good in the AFL Academy game.

Toby Wooler can play as a CHF/Inside Midfielder, he's probably a 20-40 pick prospect. A few questions are on where he plays at AFL level as at 193cm he's not big enough for KPF - so more of a third tall. He has played through the midfield and at the stoppages for Oakleigh Chargers this year so does give him a bit of a point of difference.

I like both - but depending on who is there at our picks i'd be happy to take Dow but maybe not Wooller.
