Hey guys do you think Liam Ryan will get picked up from Subiaco FC ? Second time around in the draft turned 21 early October....

If clubs overlook the whole family problem, now that he has been out of that environment for a while now then i'd say yes. But there is also the issue of his girlfriend of not long, being due next year.

Mcartin with a late pick? Fills a need.
If Naish gets a bid before #25 and leaves our 2 3rd rounders still in play

#53 Tom McCartin is the exact type we should be looking at
Kid just makes this years draft by 1 day and has come back from a post-viral arthritis. Big tank on this kid and runs all day
Currently 192cm an 88kgs but will grow and should get to 194/95cm

I like the kid and was mentioned to me that we do have an interest

Brander, Hayes, Oscar Allen, Balta seem to be the talls in our range.

Am I reading that right?

Dream Scenario is Naish gets bid on after pick 20.

Pick 17: Sam Hayes
Pick 20: Bonar/Balta/Brander
Pick 25: Naish
Dream Scenario for me is that Naish slips past 25
17 Hayes
20 Bonar
25 Brander
Naish matched at pick 28*/29 or later.
*bid on Ballenden could move our third rounders up a spot making 28 the pick where we don't go into deficit.
CatB D Smith *2

Has anyone done the sums with points to figure out the minimum not to match for Naish?

Eg if he gets nominated too early we will lose 20 and 25? so therefore unlikely to match?

17 = 1,025
20 = 912
25 = 756

That would be a stupid move to do to essentially get Niash for 17, 20 and 25.

Several clubs are interested in him, with Sydney and Richmond keeping a close eye on his testing.

Lost cost potential value pick up. We need cover for Nank. Depends on how Hammer is going. He's only got a few more years left. Soldo is fine. I reckon he's tracking well. But a cheap young but physically mature ruck as extra insurance and as a project would make sense.

interesting draft period - as always. But with the Naish thing we might get extra double value if we are lucky.

Probably won't match an early bid.

Would love to land Brander at 17. Hypothetically speaking, Naish gets bid on at 16 and Brander is still on the board, what do we do? Naish is the romantic pick but Brander a bigger need
I could be wrong about the bidding process, but I thought if Naish gets bid on at 16, we match with 17, and then with surplus of points coming from matching with 17, our pick 20 becomes the next selection:

-Naish bid pick 16, match with 17.
-Points surplus brings pick 20 to pick 17, the next selection

Happy to be corrected otherwise.

This makes me wet if true.

NAISH bid in bold from pick 4 and how it affects other picks if we match. not including Ballenden bid which will change things!
4,25,48,53,55/5,25,40,63,55/6,25,35,53,55/7,25,31,5,55/8,25,29,53,55/9,25,26,5,55/10,23,25,53,55/11,22,25,53,55/12,20,25,53,55/13,20,25,53,55/14,20,25,53,55/15,20,25,53,55/16,20,24,53,55/17,18,25,53,55/17,19,25,53,55/17,20,21,53,55/17,20,22,53,55/17,20,23,53,55/17,20,24,53,55/17,20,25,26,(145 point deficit into next year).
I think Richmond take him at 25 to avoid going into deficit next year.
I hope I am right! if not, not far off.
Amended to show correct picks with excess points not added to next pick.

That would be a stupid move to do to essentially get Niash for 17, 20 and 25.

For those concerned we've shot ourselves in the foot by dropping back lets have a look at the following.

First off safe to say nobody bids inside top 3 for Naish.

In the unlikely event of a bid for Naish coming between 4-8 it would mean 17 & 20 become the following:
4 & 48 (North Bid)
5 & 40 (Fremantle bid)
6 & 34 (Collingwood Bid)
7, 31 & 73 (Saints bid)
8, 28 & 72 (Saints bid)

In this scenario I reckon the club would pass and use 17, 20 & 25 on kids.

A bid for Naish between 9-12 means 17 20 & 25 become:
9, 25 & 26 (Dogs Bid)
10, 23 & 26 (Carlton Bid)
11, 22 & 26 (GWS bid)

Still gives us 3 picks inside the top 30

A pick between 12 & 16 are matched by 17 and see 20 & 25 remain untouched, we likely get a late pick back depending on left over points.

In reality it looks like the club have looked over the likely scenarios and have done a deal that makes it easier to match for Naish and still add another couple of top 30 quality kids to the list.

Looking at our current list, we have 11 players aged 22 or younger playing in the VFL finals with the ability now to add another 3 top 30 kids will give us a minimum 14 players under 22 heading into 2018, a strong place to be as reigning premiers.

Heard we're looking to use a pick on a tall forward named Durry O'Neil.

Has a Gaelic football background.

Not too sure how it works but he's sneaking under the radar, will go very late in the draft.
????????

Pretty sure the notion our picks get upgraded due to extra points has already been proven false

You are correct, but I think RT's calculations take that into account.
Pill Cosby's example above is wrong. A bid at 16 would turn pick 17 into Naish and pick 58.
Also assuming Ballanden doesn't attract an earlier bid.

I played against his Dad and Uncle when I was a young kid playing up in the seniors, freaks the lot of them

This is incorrect unfortunately.

But what actually happens doesn’t make sense so they should change the rules.

If Naish gets bid at pick 16, we match with 17, pick 17 becomes the equivalent pick of the remaining points (like pick 60 or something). However, this doesn’t make sense because you can’t actually use this pick unless it falls before the active picks you have in the draft.
