We interviewed Hugh Dixon, he said we asked the weirdest question at the combine

This PDF http://www.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/AFL/Files/Father-son-bidding-system.pdf
is the best I can find, but it comes from 2014 !
It has an (hypothetical?) example of Darcy Moore getting a bid at pick 5 and Collingwood matching with pick 6.

Pick 5 = 1,878pts 1,878pts x 80% = 1,503pts
Maximum of 20% discount could be applied to value of Pick 5 – Collingwood owe 1,503pts
Pick 6 = 1,751pts. 1,751pts – 1,503pts = 249pts
Collingwood get Pick 5 for Pick 6 and no more points are owed
– draft order is updated
Note: Remaining 249pts are not used by Collingwood

It just has this note at the end with no further explanation. Their next pick is definitely not upgraded by the remaining 249 points, but they also don't get it made into equivalent points pick 52 which is what I believed happens?
Surely I'm not the only person interested in this, WHY CAN"T THE AFL JUST MAKE IT CLEAR ??

The 2014 Moore example in that document is the scenario we'd be looking at with Naish being bid on at 16 by the Bulldogs. The surplus wouldn't be added or credited against pick 20 so that it moved up in the Draft (e.g to 18) but rather, pick 17 is shuffled back to pick 58 as a few other posters have mentioned.

Just depends on whether we use that pick or not.

Not saying we won’t draft one but depends what pick we’d be using. I think the school of thought is why draft and spend years developing ourselves when you can trade for one. What is this kids draft range?
Was top 10
Now who knows.

I think the swap of picks with cats was so we can nab Derek Smith to who we a looking in that range.I think there will be a few more delistings and we may use those picks in 50 range.

I really hope the club doesn't pick tall players at our picks simply because they are big, I'd rather we pick best available whether it be a midfielder, small forward a KPP or a ruck, simply pick best available.
Yep, because you just don't know what you need down the track and draftees are project players for the most part. Therefore, pick according to best available at your pick for the most part

Hayes does move well tho and agile and not a one trick pony good on the ground ,can take a grab, play forward and nice skills, even his ruckwork don't know what people a saying his a old fashioned ruckman.I think endurance can be build up and his tank.

I haven't seen enough of Miller to be brutally honest. One that I'll be following up and watching stuff of over the next few weeks If I can.

Combine testing was good, but he didn't look that appealing to me on Grand Final day. Maybe a late/rookie.
Cheers thanks for the reply

Do you think Smith will go around 50? Big stretch given that we will be upgrading rookies and such. Reckon rookie maybe.

quite bizarre we did that especially in a stronger draft next year

We will need all three of those picks to match if Naish somehow slips past our third pick (currently 25). If we didn't have this extra pick we could have a points deficit that would downgrade our 2018 2nd rounder. Club just covering all bases.

Match at 28 (if Ballenden goes first) or 29 to avoid a deficit. I am not going complain if Naish goes at 26 or 27.

would be nice. 4 picks inside 30. .....As premiers...

I just like the sound of it.

Madtiger2006 hates this lol. All about the talls. A tall here a tall their. Just because they tall don't mean they will be any good.
