List Mgmt. 2017 draft thread

So I've spent my Cup day holiday reading through the Inside Football draft profiles as well as scouring other sites. Using the depth chart above I've made some changes to who I like with our picks.

17. Sam Hayes 203cm 93kg Ruck/KPF

20. Sam Taylor 196cm 88kg KPD

25. Patrick Naish 180cm 69kg Midfielder

52. James Worpel 185cm 85kg Midfielder

54. Hugh Dixon 195cm 90kg KPF

Covers all the needs I think we need to cover. Only issue is the lack of a second outside midfielder but Worpel would be a good addition beside Graham as a young inside midfielder to build around for the future. Like Graham he was an U18 champs captain. He also was Geelong Falcons premiership captain and one of the main comments in his write ups is his love of laying tackles. As I said besides Graham he would be a great addition to the next group of midfielders coming through.

Are you presuming Brander and Balta are gone?

No to Dixon, he is to slow, not fit enough and has a huge turning circle.

Bishop what exactly is Hayes beep/endurance results? My biggest concern is he will never get fit and be another Vickery, endurance is vital as a Ruck/kpf.

I expect they will be. As for Dixon being a late pick we're not going to get a gun but if we can get a kid we can develop then I don't see a big problem

I think people are getting too caught up in our teams needs. Blair has said in the past that "you draft best available and trade for need"

I don't expect that MO to change given our success. I think we'll end up with one tall because that's the way things will fall but I won't be surprised if that's the only tall we take...

2km time trial was 8min 24s - second worst. One of only two players to get into 8 minutes. Very poor.

Yo-Yo 19.3 was the worst at the combine.

Do you reckon he can develop running ability? Or is he just a slug?

i.e. can an AFL club turn footy talent, but no running into at least a capable runner.

He'll be able to get to a capable level - but it's definitely put some clubs off that's for sure.

Hmm. Thanks. If they don't run because they don't have the intestinal fortitude that is a major issue. If it's physical then forget it. I want him, but also am worried about taking him. Running in the AFL isn't getting less.

Zac Williams pick 55 in rookie draft

and now he's best 22 in a top 4 team. Some crap logic you're trying to apply here... Are you trying to say Naish is only worth a rookie pick because that's where Zac was taken??

One elite attribute: Kicking...
Goes at 57% kicking efficiency haha

You dont become an elite runner simply from running more.

There are many physical limitations such as VO2Max etc, that will dictate the ceiling of your running abilities.

In plain talk. If he cant run now, he will never be a good runner. But as Bishop said, he should get to a competent level.

Dusty and Zac Merret lead the AFL for clangers... are they shit kicks?

That is waaaaaay to broad a statement and basically not really accurate.

I have no doubt that we'll likely draft as you suggest. However I like to look at it based on what our list needs. For me the ideal draft would be as I mentioned yesterday as it rounds our list off nicely. At the same time given our recent success at the draft I'm not going to lose any sleep if they draft completely different.
