If we use 17 on Naish i will spew up. A skinny long term flanker isn't high on the wish list right now.

Not to fussed either way if we get him or not to be honest.
Ideal Draft for me would be a 50/50 split:
17-Balta
20-Constable/O'Brien
25-Harrison Petty.
Next pick Naish.
2 talls,2 mids
Rookie a Ruckman

Why the angst? There are likely to be at least 5-10 equally rated players around that range, and we'll still get 2 of them regardless. Pace, enthusiasm for defensive pressure and good foot skills have been the recipe this year - if Naish is good enough, adds depth or lifts the standards for those already in the team plus is committed to being the best Tiger he can be, I can't see an issue with taking him, rather than him turning out for some other team and us losing a tiny bit of our soul.

It's been a bit too long without the romanticism of a quality father-son player. My only concern is that the pressure of being a round 1 pick, even if forced by another team, does a "Vickery" on him and he struggles to manage the demands of a fan base now expecting success, whereas being our 2nd, 3rd or (in a perfect world) 4th selection takes off some of that edge.

I know what he said. They are all very good players who are more than capable forwards. Did you not see McDonald play forward while Hogan was out? What about both McGovern's ability to take strong grabs? You don't think we could use Lobb in our team?

I would have though after seeing the way we won the flag fans would understand that every player doesn't have to be a superstar.

Best available is what I go by. You guys are arguing we shouldn't try drafting a KPF because they might not be the next Jeremy Cameron and we don't have a top 10 pick.

Who needs a players like these eh?:drunk:

My point is we shouldn't be using our picks in the 50's on key fwds as some are suggesting. especially in what many consider to be a shallow draft.

I see McGovern and McDonald as pinch hitters who can't be trusted to hold the line week in week out. If they did, teams would pay mucu more attention to their forward craft, put better defenders on them and they'd lose the element of surprise.

Now is it okay to draft a forward around the teens 20s? Sure but any later than say 30 and you're wasting your time.

I agree that if Richmond waits until Cameron comes along they're going to be waiting a long time. But settling for mediocrity late isn't the answer. Trust me, if there's a gun forward still on the board by say pick 50, there's a reason why. Better to stick to midfielders and defenders who can be found late.
there will definitely be some talls on the board at our 1st 3 picks & that is when we need to pounce. any later & it's a no.

As for Lobb now that Mumford is gone he'll be thier #1 ruck.

Only because they have a need for a Ruckman. If he played at a team with an established Ruck he'd be a forward. I get what you're saying but the point is. Don't write off a player just because of where they're drafted. As RT said, if we listened to football history and the way things have shown they need to be done. We wouldn't have just won the flag.

Say we get Ben Miller or Nathan Krueger at 50? Why write them off just because of where they're taken? They both have the tools to be very good players. The odds are stacked against them sure but that's no reason to dismiss them completely.

Why spew if we go with naish at 17 the club have scouted him his whole career and we just won the flag if it’s also true his brothers are better it also helps with the good will.

A bloke on PRE reckons we've told Ben Paton we're a good chance to take him. What do you guys think? From his clip he looks a sublime kick out of half back, dual sided. Reminds me of Docherty a bit
Plan B if we don't want to use 17 on Naish?

Very rare that we have ever told anyone that we would likely take them. Sounds made up.

Ben Brown is the only decent key forward in the AFL to not come from the first round. Defenders can be found anywhere. The best forwards are found in the first round, and stats suggest they are found very early.
While that is mostly correct, none of Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins, Charlie Dixon, Daniel Bradshaw, Cameron Mooney, Josh Bruce or Jack Darling went in the first round.

Righto mate. Let's just try Griffiths again eh?
Yes, let's.

Yes, let's.

I'm definitely for giving Griff another shot. I'm just trying to point out to guruisatiger that the players I mentioned have shown more at AFL level and the club would take them over Griff in a heart beat.

Yes, let's.
Walker was a NSW academy selection and Dixon was prelisted by GCS. Darling was a pick outside the first round and really only fell due to his tanking interviews to stay in WA. Only Bradshaw and Mooney on that list would of been in the open draft and are any good.

Bruce was also a zone selection for GWS.

I don't think they would rush him in even if selected early. They don't need to do that anymore and he will get a gig if and when he is ready. At least that is what I think the new Richmond will do...

Really like the look of O'Brien. Had a few injury niggles this year so didn't show full potential. Really not sold on Brander.. Something about him says Todd Elton.

My ideal 3 picks are

17-O'Brien,
20-Ballard,
25-Balta/Petty.
