Pretty sure I've advised this before but the "gaming profit" and "profit / loss without gaming" are incorrect and misleading. To be able to present either you would need to attribute the amortisation expenses which are directly and wholely attributable for a start. In addition to this you would need to be sure that no other depreciation and lease expenses are attributable to gaming. Finally, at least in collingwoods example, the "function" facility at the glasshouse is clearly included in the revenue item which is not gaming and clearly a large component of the big leasehold improvement depreciation

I dont "need" to do anything and Im pretty sure ive ignored your suggestion before and will continue doing so, as long as the clubs continue to list expenses and revenue in the manner that they do so. As I have done since 2011.

Given that almost all gaming revenues include their hospitality and social club revenues in the same line item, I see no reason to treat Collingwood like a special fish.

If you want to be accurate in presenting "gaming profits" and "profit / loss without gaming" you would "need" to account for those things.

Anyway, I know you are very sensitive to criticism so I generally refrain. I appreciate your affords compiling this information, I will just let the "interesting" efforts at analysing it go through to the keeper in future.

No it isn't. It is basic cost allocation. You haven't included expenses that are clearly defined and itemised as gaming expenses (i.e. amortisation). Moreover, in your "Profit / loss without gaming", you are implicitly assuming that no lease expenses, depreciation, financing expenses are driven by or attributable to gaming (or in Collingwood's case function centres and gaming).

And, in addition to this, correct cost allocation approaches that endeavour to establish the full costs of a particular business unit / service would also allocated a portion of administrative and corporate services.

So, correct, it is not rocket science but your approach is still incorrect and misleading. You are of course free to "ignore" my advice but your otherwise valuable resource would continue to present information in an erroneous and misleading way.

spare me.

OK, you are very open to critical feedback which of course you are never really in need of anyway

$999,464 - Operating Surplus
$28,661 - Statutory
$57,900,000 - Revenue

Tracking now for $1.005B if the remaining clubs follow the median growth rate (ie collingwood's 8.8%)

At least 7.5% growth for the remaining 7 clubs would get it over a billion...

The_Wookie do you know if the AFL have put out the equivalent of their 5 year plans like they did in September 2006 when they put out the Next Generation documents and how they would spend and save the 2007-11 TV monies + 5 year budgeted other income streams or the 2012-16 Club Funding & Equalisation Strategy documents they released in September 2011 showing how they would spend and save the 2012-16 TV monies + 5 year budgeted other income streams??

Obviously not having stitched up the CBA for 2017-22 until June 2017 I can understand why they didn't release anything in September 2016, but thought they might have done so after September 2017.

Probably explains why they are playing an extra home game at Etihad this year.

Pretty sure the fixture was done before such negotiations were complete.

Curious that nobody has announced any agreement if it's done.

its worth noting that this was the predicted result for all clubs at Etihad.
Yep understand both points.

Just trying to figure out why the AFL fixtured them to play more Etihad home games than MCG games when the Blues from my knowledge changed their agreement to play 6 at the MCG a couple of years back.

Seems negotiations with Carlton were completed prior to the fixture release:

“Our stadium negotiations have resulted in the Club securing a sixth game at Etihad Stadium which will return a significant financial outcome for the Club,” LoGiudice said.

“Subsequently, the financial benefits will allow further investment into our football program.”

Seems so...or at least, if the negotiations weren't done, they had a pretty good idea of what to expect...

From your link
"Our stadium negotiations have resulted in the Club securing a sixth game at Etihad Stadium which will return a significant financial outcome for the Club,” LoGiudice said.

“Subsequently, the financial benefits will allow further investment into our football program.”

I always suspect there is some spin involved in any announcement, but this seems to be a pretty clear message that they expected more games at Docklands to be a good financial outcome.

I'm still curious about the lack of announcement though...Could be that some details are still being discussed, but the broad gist of the deal is solid enough that conclusions/expectations can be reached. Maybe someone still needs to sign off on it (the commission and/or one of the clubs involved), Or perhaps the AFL want to save it until a certain time/date to maximise the PR value (in which case, the AFL mightn't be thrilled with CFC for this). All are reasonable reasons, but still..curious.

Maybe the AFL wants them to wait until negotiations with the other tenants are completed and they will announce them all at once.

Interesting tweet I came across (thanks to a Wookie retweet)
..
...
Funnily enough, the top AFL clubs will probably have a higher match day return than some of the clubs in that list. West Coast will probably pull $30m plus from matchday this year, Freo won't be that far behind. That's £17m, higher than a lot of premier league clubs (assuming a few more PL clubs not appearing in that list are less than Everton). Despite AFL clubs having half the number of home games.

Course they're dwarfed by the largest soccer clubs.

Can you let us in on the basic numbers ... not saying you are wrong !!
