What's the link between how many of a club's Friday night games are televised and how successful they are in that season?
Somebody probably has the figures.

I hope the AFL are ready for the wave of criticism coming their way next year when thursday/friday night football becomes blowout city in front of half empty stadiums.
We had seven Friday nighters last year .. we squandered it!

Fixtures and who ya play twice etc means jack to me! You'll play finals if you're good enough no matter what, you still play 17 teams at least once, you can win enough games to make finals from just those games! Never will I accept the draw as an excuse, ever!
This is true, a favourable draw might gain you one or two more wins. We'll make finals if we are good enough, and we'll miss if we're not.

That's not good Friday eve, just an stock standard Thursday. We all have to go to work the next day, it will flop crowd wise as no one in Melbourne wants to go to the Footy and have to go to work the next day. It's too late and you can't take the kids.
It maybe a TV success, works better than Monday's.

Keep Thursday nights for Adelaide and Brisbane etc, even Geelong would work with an interstate team.

As our home game we have been screwed over, I think we will be lucky to get 70,000 there,
The opening round is Carlton's home game so I won't be attending this anyway, but scheduling our first "home game" against Collingwood on a standard Thursday night is just madness for the very reasons you have already mentioned.

Other than that I'm pretty happy with the draw. Only 3 night games and none of those are late 7:50pm starts. :)

Not a great deal from a commercial point of view, but I', not blaming the AFL. I blame the coach and our shit game plan and unwatchable style of footy. Will be VERY interesting to see what style of footy we play early in 2017.
I'm livid about having to travel to the shanty town.

It's not great but it's not terrible either.
One thing that really irks me is that we play Norf at Etihad, yet again. It's ridiculous.

No Friday night games is a result of our own form which is understandable. Plenty of Saturday games which is good.

I think we sneak finals.
Geelong tough draw, helps our extra 2017 first.

Also why are we going down to Geelong?

Lets compare us to sayyy Carlton.
We have more members than them and we pull bigger crowds
Calrton have not gone to Simmonds since 1997. They have played Cats 4 times at PRINCESS PARK since the last time they played at Simmonds.
We have now played them there 9 times since 1997.

9 v 0 times.

Collingwood plays Cats 2 times next year. Both at MCG. This year we were neck and neck in memberships, crown numbers and ladder position.
So wtf? I dont see why
Collingwood has now got 17 MCG home and away games in a row against Geelong since 2005.

A few quotes from the AFL site on teams we say section

Carlton:
MCG from rounds 14-17. The Blues will want to get their wins early before a tough run into the finals featuring the Eagles, Hawks and Swans. - Lee Gaskin

I SAY: hahahahahahahahahaha ****ing clown.

Adelaide:
A great draw both from a football and commercial sense. After a tough first two weeks, the Crows then only play one top-eight team from rounds 3-10

I SAY:Which could end up being five in form top 8 teams at the time of playing them.

Geelong:
although four appearances on Friday night and two on Thursday night emphasises how watchable the Cats are. - Ben Guthrie

I SAY: Due to off loads and retirements, they could be unwatchable next year.

LOLnorf:
A tough opening month for the Kangaroos, making it unlikely the 9-0 start to the 2016 season will be replicated. - Peter Ryan

I SAY: Off course it's unlikely you idiot did you miss their retirements and walkouts, they have been gutted.

St Kilda:
The four Friday night games St Kilda has been handed points to the club's increased relevancy. - Ben Guthrie

I SAY: Ummm no their not relevant, all they did was cash in late in the year against teams who had checked out and the AFL have been sucked in.

I think if we beat carlton this year it's the biggest streak for the opening round against that scum sucking corrupt excuse of a club . The media don't harp on it like they did when we were on the receiving end. Need to smash them

When you find out we have no Friday night matches and are the only club out of Hawthorn, Essendon, Carlton and the Pies to play in Geelong.

incredulous.gif

But then you realise we have a soft serve draw - playing Carlton, Brisbane, Freo and Saints twice.

Saints will beat us lol
Freo might too

We played Geelong at the G this year when Dusty took Danger to school. Now he can do it on his own turf.

Round 2 Thursday, March 30

RICH v COLL - tiger win

Round 3 Saturday, April 08

There's no doubt now that the need for ratings and eyeballs on tv ads has overtaken the need for bums on seats. If that wasn't the case, the teams that draw the biggest crowds like us would get at least 2 or 3 Friday night games.

Saints will beat us lol
Freo might too

Probably lol But it couldn't have got much easier considering that we are playing the true bottom 3 from last year twice. Maybe instead of the saints they could've given us a VFL side to play!:sweatsmile:

Wonder how the club will react for those of us with 16 game memberships?

Six interstate trips and a game at Pussy Park. As the Pussy Park game is game 16, and as we were shafted last time, Geelong should be forced this time to provide seating for EVERY 16 game membership holder, irrespective for what Geelong or their supporters think.
that will never happen lol.
i do think the Club owes us an explanation as why us 16 game Members will not be able to get into 1 game that we have paid for....

Those complaining about no Friday night games. Are we all pretending that Thursday night games don't basically equal Friday night games? :drunk::drunk::drunk:

We kick off the first and second round of the season. Sounds like prime time to me...:drunk::drunk::drunk:

Thats what I dont get, which part puts Collignwood higher than us?
40k v 44k average attendance last year.
72k v 74k members.
13th v 12th on the ladder.

They are a tiny bit above us in everything, so close its pretty much even. So why do they get to play 3 extra games at their home ground?

1) it's geelongs game, no issue playing it at cat park

2) no shit we cop a shit draw after finishing 13th

3) This ain't a soft run either, cats at cat park, dogs and Kangas at etihad, gws/gc/crows/port all away. We willo well to win 10
keep in mind up till this year we had a great record on the road.

its because Eddie is a massive whinger

I didn't think the AFL were actually that stupid to send us to Geelong, but they did. What a bunch of muppets.
