Prediction 2017 Fixture wishlist/discussion

Couldn't see one of these so thought I'd get into it. If we could keep this thread free of discussion around players and coaching staff and focus on timing, grounds, timeslots etc of course...

Anyway...

I was frustrated and disappointed by the 2016 fixture for a number of reasons.

• Front-loading the home games so we essentially had only 3 or 4 in the back half of the season was awful.
• I know it doesn't matter greatly when we play so often at the G, but I'd like to see us travel at various times instead of in 2 or 3 week blocks. GWS into Adelaide was dumb scheduling.
• I don't know if I'm alone in this but I hate the 3:20pm Sunday timeslot.
• Did we play any Saturday night home games?
• Can we please open the season at home, or at least IN BLOODY MELBOURNE this year?

... and please can we accidentally not have any Etihad home games? #soulless

What else.... Who do we play twice? Who gets ANZAC hosting rights?

Give us a dream run this time. Let us start with an easy game like Brisbane or the Gold Coast. Let us play these teams twice in the year.

We will probably travel around 5 times like most years and everyone will complain like normal.

We played 3 saturday night games IIRC, the 1st the opening round against Sydney, the 2nd against Adelaide and 3rd against Gold Coast. The AFL like to put us in the sunday time slot to promote sunday footy more.

I have noticed we don't open the season much in Melbourne these days actually. When we do it is normally at etihad as well, the last few years its been in sydney, brisbane and before that etihad.

We finished 12th so the draw shouldnt be to hard. I want it more balanced because this draw seemed to be an easy draw at the start and the later part of the year was hard, which is very ironic considering we were poor at the start and better towards the later part.

I suspect we will have to travel to perth for Freo, Adelaide for Port and Gold coast for Gold coast as we didn't do that this year and it normally alternates i think.

They may try and go for the bulldogs collingwood opener as they did last year. Friday night at the G would be huge.

God I hope so. Interstate openers are such buzzkills - especially this year going to Sydney after such a promising pre-season locally.

My wants:

*No more Etihad AT ALL

*More VFL into AFL games (MCG curtain-raisers would be better), although this has been improving, it could be better. On a side note, I absolutely HATE the Holden Centre ground, back to Vic Park for our VFL home games.

*Bring Sunday afternoon games back to 2:10pm as the norm, and more focus on 4:40pm Saturday games.

I really hope we get round 1 against the bulldogs. Both games were close this year and i tend to disagree that an easy start is the best setup for the year. If its at Etihad though dont bother...

Essendon will host Anzac Day, that alternates every year.

We've travelled to Brisbane 8 of the last 10 years now, so we're overdue for a game in Melbourne against them. We've also played WC in Melbourne every year since 2009 so that run will eventually run out, then the big one: Sydney in Sydney every year since 2002. Once they abandoned the annual split-round game we used to have there's no need for this year after year anymore.

So according to fixturing rules we have to play twice:

1 or 2 of the Top 6 teams (Geelong, GWS, Sydney, Bulldogs, Hawthorn, Adelaide)
2 or 3 of the Middle 6 teams (West Coast, North Melb, St Kilda, Port Adelaide, Melbourne)
1 or 2 of the Bottom 6 teams (Richmond, Carlton, Gold Coast, Fremantle, Brisbane, Essendon)

You'd think our split will be 1-2-2 given that our biggest rivals are all in the bottom 6. I can't see them giving us only 1 return game between Carlton, Essendon & Richmond.

Given that, I would like to see us play Carlton, Richmond, North, St Kilda & Sydney twice (based almost entirely on who I actually enjoy going to see us play rather than for "easy" wins or anything else).

Away games v Freo, Port, Sydney, GC & Brisbane.

More Saturday games - particularly early afternoon. When we have to play on Sunday have them at 1.10pm where possible.

Oh, and we will play 3 games at Docklands. As supporters how about this year instead of incessantly whinging about playing there we try actually showing up?

Scrap Queen's Birthday & play on Good Friday, whether it be against Melbourne or someone else. Not a huge fan of the QB encounter.
As SuperSub17 said, a standalone game against Sydney in Melbourne is long overdue.

Something like this would do me (I am sure I've made mistakes though!). We'd play Carlton, Essendon, Freo, GWS and Melbourne twice. 5 interstate games and 3 Etihad games.

Whinging about it and attending aren't mutually exclusive - we can attend and still be annoyed at how shitty a venue it is, from top to bottom.

Probably unpopular, but I wish we had more interstate games. Always fun to watch on TV somewhere different and if I have the time I will even make the trip to the game...

Yeah I mentioned that. Happy for QB to go to another side. Never really been a huge fan of it, and only Melbourne holds it in high regard.

Played west coast in perth this year as well as in melbourne so it already ended.
