Screw them.

Not that I have any affinity whatsoever for Seven, but I'm also not a pay TV subscriber and this is probably just another slow step towards it being removed from FTA altogether.

It is really poor, what I would love to see is the AFL stream 4 games a week, while giving access to someone like a Netflix the ability to stream a game or 2.

Open up the ability for people to see the games on services they may already have. Internet infrastructure would have to be 50x better in this country to go to a full streaming model with the AFL running their own service.

We might get there one day.

~$60 per month for base foxtel plus sport, it's pretty affordable and the fact you get all 9 games live in HD plus some good footy programs means that it's well worth it IMO.

That's a relative term. I'd love to have it but I can't justify it on top of what I already spend on footy memberships. It'd mean something like no swimming lessons for my kid. And I'm on a reasonable wicket (#nohumblebrag), I shudder to think how those less well off cope.

It is a relative term. I think for the cost of a slab of decent beer, it's worth it - although I don't drink at home so that's probably how I justify it :)

EDIT: and to be honest, the bigger issue is the quality of the other content and the fact that streaming services are catching up and passing Foxtel for general content. I won't keep Foxtel once the AFL get's its ass into gear and starts streaming all 9 games live in perfect quality in the next few years.

It can't be justified when every game is live free on the crownbet app and someone uploads all the Fox shows to YouTube here.

That is the issue for most people. They just want sport, or they just want footy. Should be able to break it all up and pay a decent price, although $60 for a full season of AFL is actually pretty good I guess. I pay $50 for base plus movies plus sport and I don't think ive watched anything else other than AFL.

They just need to get Netflix in on it that's the dream.

I'm considering trying to set up international AFL stream to see what the quality is like and if it's good enough dropping foxtel.

For me atm, less FTA games means less games with Seven commentary. That's always a good thing

I had movies for free for 6 months when I first signed up. Didn't watch a single movie...

Let me know how you go. I'm still content with Foxtel for $60 pm for now but when better options come on board I am not that loyal to Foxtel.

$60 does not seem like a lot but it's the slow progression towards having all games bar Friday night on pay tv. Thus is bad for the game in general. Fta coverage is very important to give everyday people the game is still for everyone and not exclusive.

Yeah, Foxtel will struggle if they don't drop their prices. I'd pay 100 or whatever it was for the AFL live subscription. This year luckily we got it through our mobile plan for "free". Well mum & dads

If it's not on free to air properly then it will lose viewership. Less viewers means losing sponsorship deals, people lose interest when they can't watch it and downgrade or stop buying memberships or going to games. It's hard to be invested in something just for the sake of a couple of standalone games. If it gets to a point where there's one or two games a week with different opponents each time, then I can see that creating a lot of issues for smaller teams. Even now FTA favours games between teams that get better viewership, and those teams tend also to have better sponsorship and more members.

I think the AFL are big enough to survive under that scenario until the next broadcast rights agreement is negotiated, if they're smart they'd then take unders to keep it reasonably on FTA. Currently I get a digital add-on to my membership which lets me stream every game and it's way less expensive than Foxtel, so that's also an option, although it doesn't grow the sport in the way that free to air does with cross promotion.

How many FTA games are there per round? I'm looking at the HUN's print out yesterday, and after the first two rounds they have only 3/9 games per round being listed as being on Seven.

Please tell me that's an error, someone.

Friday Night, Saturday Night and Sunday Arvo plus every Thursday night game and Anzac Day, Queen's birthday and Anzac Day Eve I think

But really, once you know enough not to drown you're set. Kick your feet, flap your arms. Simple. One lesson. :thumbsu:

Unerringly so. Always.

For 2015:
Could Easily go 1-11 into the bye. Easily.

Could go 1-12

Could finish 5-17.

Easily.

For 2013:
Man, I remember when you were saying we were a legitimate chance to get to Round 18 in 2013 at 16-0.

How times have changed!
That we did. 13-3, as good as it was, wasn't quite 16-0 though! ;)

Let's hope you're several orders of magnitude on wrong on both 1-12 and 5-17. :)

Tl:dr - listen to me. I'm pretty accurate. We're going whatever I wrote earlier in the thread.

Really no different to the last 5 years, the Saturday arvo game was always delayed on FTA, who watches a game on delay in this day and age? Having the game lead into news has always been more important to FTA than showing it live for its viewers.

I do. Even if I know the half time score already. ;)

The AFL international stream has improved in the last 5 years - You can still have those f... moments from time to time, though it is sometimes governed by the speed of your internet connection.
