Roo is doing my absolute lid in. I know if I don't get him he'll be steaming me all year. How bout that game he played last year in the final round? 24 kicks, 2 handballs, 21 marks, 9.1 if you don't mind.

Merrett was playing his last game for the record. But still.

whats your reasoning though? he has been my number 1 for all the preseason but im still not 100% certain on him, need reasons

Roams like a mid, field kicking awesome. Wins tonnes of contested footy. He's just Buddy and more fun with him in the side. May go quiet for a qtr but than goes bananas

Does anyone like Ryder as a fwd, esp as duel ruck?? Really liked what I saw from him in JTL 3 & from what I read they'll be going with him solo Rd 1. Don't see it beyond him ave 90-100. Prob 70-80k unders due to the 12 months off too.
Plenty of coaches, including me, are thinking this way, linking Ryder in the forward line with Strnadica in R3. I am hoping for 90+ average

Just cannot commit to Riewoldt. That 40 year old body of his and he'll do something ridiculous like run back with the flight in the first minute of Rnd 1 and knock himself into next year.

Yep - This is pretty much why I haven't considered starting with him and regardless how well he's playing, I won't trade him in at any stage. I feel like he's a ticking time-bomb in terms of injuries.

I have a lot of respect for the guy too - with all the talk recently of best players since the 2000's, I'd personally have Riewoldt top 3. However there's way too much potential risk with him, SC-friendly role or not I just can't do it.

Also - I genuinely believe Jack Steele will average ~85 and be an SC flop this season (I think he'll be one of the premier midfielders in the comp in 2-3 seasons, and an SC-staple with consistent 110SC+ averages, but not yet.). He's only 21, he had an injury-interrupted pre-season due to recovering from a broken bone in his foot from memory, didn't resume full training until after the new year. He also had a big 155 score against Carlton who they beat by a crap-load, i'm not nearly as impressed as this when compared to his performance against Sydney. Also, rather than marvel at his high TOG%-SC score ratio, I think it should be a cause for concern as it's very likely he just doesn't have a big enough engine yet.

So many red flags... I've still picked him though - but everything is screaming out to me that he's a trap, and I'm not so sure I can avoid those doubts for very long. He's a huge risk, and teams are littered with speculative risks this season all over the place with guys like Sandilands, Witts, O'Meara, Swallow, Beams, Nankervis, Adams quite common selections, then the risk in the ruck divison with guys like Gawn and Goldstein as big risks due to competition for Gawn and his high price and Goldstein potentially past his best in a side that won't be as successful as the previous few seasons.

I think Steele will inevitably find his way out of my team in order to bring in some more solid selections to balance out those risky selections, namely Adams, Sandilands and Nankervis for me.

I'm gonna get sucked into picking Steele, and I can dig it.
I agree with what Souup said, think he'll be an SC stud in the years to come, not sure he'll become one this year but I don't wanna miss out if it is.
Big fan of the kid, wanted him at the Tiges in his draft year, and wanted him when he went on the market last year. While his JLT stats are JLT stats and shouldn't be taken into too much consideration, they are outrageous, I'm ignoring his game against Carlton because it was against Carlton, and he still managed to average 82 points in 55.5% TOG. Hopefully he can go 90+ in the real stuff and doesn't burn out. The only other mid-pricers I'm taking atm are Sandi, Nank and Tuohy so I don't think it's too risky (have Marchbank too but claiming him as a high priced rookie).

Also, cheers to jjsmitty8 for the killer cheat sheet, makes looking up some of the stats super easy.

I have managed with some tinkering in the midfield to put Steele at M6. It is a low risk position. If him or Rough blow it I will down grade to a promising fwd rookie. Atm I have no confidence in the fwd rookie selections (JS) with the exception of Eddy, Pickett and Cam McCarthy. However, I have Pickett in the midfield (DPP).

Absolutely none based on JLT. McCarthy will play every game. Eddy and Pickett, Darcy Cameron ok. After that...............fknows. None fill me with any confidence. Just hoping to get the selections close to the mark when the R1 teams are named.
