That's a myth.

My forward structure 3-0-5

Dahlhaus & Macrea - can you not have these guys?

Steele - risky pick, and may change, but his scoring has been very good and I can see him improving in a big way, whether that gets him to top 10 forward I'm not sure, and that will be what is needed.

A host of rookies (including McCarthy), hope they are all playing!
Your spelling of Macrae demonstrates otherwise. :p

Thoughts on Devon Smith with Cogs out?

Scored 72 in the second half when Cogs got injured.

Also noticed last year he had 14 tackles in one game! If he tackles like that more often he could be a top 6 forward IMO.

Don't think there'll be a direct difference. Smith will continue to play off the half-forward line. Cogs is very much in the guts. So more likely to see Griffen or Taranto or Hopper (if he returns for Round 1) in there than Smith.

Serious question but before Heeney's injury he was in almost everyone's team and now he's in no teams.

If he returns round 2 is it not worth starting him on the bench to save a trade or is it too much of a risk to start such a high priced player on the bench and fall behind so early?

He might not even return round 2, then what?

Upgrade target.
Only advantage of starting with him would be that he would be a serious POD in your team.

please talk me out of stringer!
My 'twisted' logic is telling me that he now has 'support' and foils in Cloke and Crameri and will therefore not get as much attention as last year and be able to break the chain much more than last year, and in JLT he seemed to be doing a little more midfield time
AND most importantly he is embarrassed with how much of a dick he was last year and wants to make amends to himself, his team and the public.
thoughts????

Too many other bulldogs take the points:
Bont, Macrae, Dahl, Libba, Picken, Hunter etc.

Stringer needs a lot to go right to get a big score, never broken an 80 avg. in SC.
He frequently gets 4 or 5 goals and yet can't crack the ton.
In 2015 he had 8 games of 4 or more goals, only 3 converted into scores over 100.

Maybe more midfield time will help him there, but again he's going to be sharing the points with a lot of better SC bulldogs.

Thank you! I needed that :) cured

I just looked, he is 22 and has played 73 games. We are talking about him like he is 28 and his history is set. He really is only just starting to grow up. Wouldn't it be great if we could get news reports like 'Jake stringer confirms that his head is now out of his arse and he will play much much better this year'.

That would make this whole thing a lot easier.

If you believe he will score well go for it.
I don't think it's a bad pick at all, but at the same time you need to look at the numbers, not the player.

Sometimes people (not necessarily you) get caught up in the hype - BT calling him the package and all that doesn't get him any extra points.

He is a great player and honestly could explode, as you say he's young, in the highest scoring SC team and should be doing well with extra support up forward.

I look at his numbers and his history and don't find a lot to get excited about, but I'm definitely no expert.

Ryder or Nank?

One spud needs to be back up if i go for Sandi and Witts, who's gonna show Jerry the money.

Seriously tempted by Nank and had him for a while (gotta stop rotating my team) but Ryder has proven he can go 90+, even gone 100+ twice. If he's playing sole ruck even with the year out I think he's a good chance to go around 90-95 which is more than adequate for a forward and you've got coverage. Nank had an impressive JLT but he's still a pretty unknown quantity. I might end up switching last minute next Thursday night but at this stage I think Ryder just edges him out based on demonstrated output.

I have strongly considered Ryder .....but his season averages over the years have been all over the place ....IMO the year out of the game affects ruckmen and midfielders more than other positions, due to the need for miles in the legs .....think Ryder will suffer

That and Ports start to the season, 4-5 games is horrible when you look at Ryders rucking opponents

Nankervis is too much of a risk for me at a D3 or D4 ........i'm just a bit conservative, so i chose Higgins :drunk::drunk::drunk::'(:'(

Been actively looking at situations where I don't need any ruck cover but it seems so hard to swing it with the midfield I want.

Just look at the % of teams that have Stringer .....and you may find you're Robinson Curuso ? ......is that enough evidence ? ;)

Read somewhere that if you want to win the $50K you can't play a "safe" game ......think having ruck coverage can be described as playing the game safe

Even when he comes back, you'd have to allow a min of another 3 weeks in the AFL team, to hit top form ......too much of a risk to have him on the bench, as you'll be too far behind by then
