I don't begrudge the whole work life balance thing, I am Gen Y too and its definitely important. The thing that puzzles me is that it really seemed like Lachie had that here. Why build a house then? He had so much going on outside of footy here. Promo model, girlfriend getting sweet promo deals too. Always taking photos at the beach. They seemed to love loving here.

Just bizarre. Which is why I call BS on family reasons and/or not getting the right balance here. It is all money and profile boosting driven. He's been promised as their marquee player etc. His girlfriend likes the sound of boosting her profile too. Nothing else.

Then again I don't really know these people at all....
Maybe it is something that has grown over time. They maybe once had the intention of really giving it a go over here, but having done that they find really their heart is somewhere else. I know someone who moved to the GC and lived and worked there for about 5 years, was telling us all how great it was for a while, but after a while had to come back home to boring old Perth because it was home.

PSA guys: Be careful if you're going to other board's trade threads. Seen a few of you idiots getting banned so far... and tolerance for people being douchebags is only going to get lower as we hit the pointy end of the trade period
Correct, they're fairly sensitive over there. I don't condone being an out right douche bags but they're even touchy when trying to have robust convo's on trades. My Weller for Martin trade idea didn't go down too well.

Gee that escalated quickly. It's harder for them too because we have sooooo many more posters than them, so if even a couple of Freo posters go over there, it might look like we're ganging up. Where as they'd get drowned out or belittled coming over here.

Damn this trade period!
I keep jumping from this thread to the trade talk on the AFL website, hoping for news!

me too.

Wallace idea is okay but still short for us. Would say 7 and matera or 7 and 37 (they get Weller and 66) ....or 7 and their 2018 3rd rounder

If there is risk involved with Matera is similar to Balic so late pick eg 60 or 66

Wilson deal needs to be seperate using 2018 2nd and this years 57 take it or leave it

Soooo no Weller trade... no Wilson or Matera and time is ticking

I'm glad Freo are standing firm but looks like we may not get any of these unless they want to ease their demands and offers.

Next year may be the year they land and hopefully we don't give up too much in a strong draft.

Just popping in for a sec, but surely you can see that a straight swap (which is still saner then some of the other suggestions thrown up here) is clearly unfair for Gold Coast?

Why?
GC has -- reportedly -- offered Weller $800k a year for 5 years. He would certainly become one of their best paid players, if not one of the best paid young players in the game. To offer that kind of cash they must love him.
When they rate him that highly (for whatever reason), then his value in a trade involving GC must be pretty bloody high.
If GC's offer was, say, a couple of years at $400k then sure it means they like him but not love him and a more modest trade would be reasonable.

Weller is doing a jeff white. Prick!

As for our lack of trading..it might be that weve become Essendon! Overrating our players and underestimating there management and recruiting. We had a great off season last year, lets swallow our pride and make some moves.

He's talking Jack not Dustin?

Not a massive difference in output in 2017. Martin with more contested possession and goals, Weller with more uncontested, more metres and better efficiency/less clangers. Those differences are largely role related.
