Josh Kelly is 22 years old and already just about better than Dylan Shiel, a standout in a team of standouts, there's a reason pretty much the entire league will have inquired. He would easily be the best player GWS has lost, should he leave.
Josh Kelly is a better footballer than Shiel IMO

Shiel has shown glimpses (and played some great games), but Kelly is an all round gun and is showing to be far more consistent across 4 quarters

Yeh Kelly is the goldmine imo.
Inside/outside midfielder that can kick 50 off both feet and quite quick. Perfect midfielder really. Also a leader, (he captained GWS in JLT).
If we get him on massive coin then that's fine, the others may need to take pay cuts. We haven't won a flag yet.. may need a slight sacrifice to get closer.

If we are going for him.. which I think we are.. then this would have been in the playbook from about a year ago or longer. Goes to show why we weren't too keen on using a future first rounder on Gibbs.

Holy shit the Kelly rumour is gaining legs, the Trade Whisperer may have been onto something after all :D Kelly would seriously be the perfect fit in our midfield.

I'm assuming that North are considered the front-runners at the moment, rezagun?

Just finished dinner and what a riveting conversation with a friend of a player manager whos info in the past has been pretty solid.
Lever fielding alot of interest from vic clubs. Using it as leveridge in his new deal with adelaide. Doesnt want to leave. Unless we completely low ball him or he gets a 5 year million doallar a year deal hes staying.

Mcgovern is staying. Wants to repay the club.

Josh Kelly is weighing up his options between north and adelaide. Gws cant match the huge offers. Apparently our deal to him is massive and larger than anybody in our team has atm. Close to a million dollars a year and in the vicinity of 7 years.

Otten is fielding interest from collingwood. But is likely to stay a crow.
Jesus.

All that's missing from this post is that Mackay will never play for us again, Doc & Campo are getting the arse, & Modra is making a comeback.

Sooo.... two firsts.

Given the "Geelong amendment' to the future picks rules, assume we can trade our 2017 + 2018 1st round picks for JK. Sweeten the deal with future 200 game star Mookay.

It's happening!

its in our interest, even if it cost us!
Remember that ridiculous article saying we asked players to take a pay cut? Well this is what we actually did. We had a fair bit of room this year with Gibbs and his $700k or so not moving across into our cap, got rid of Lyons... and replaced those wages with draftee wages (Gallucci/Poholke). So what we did was ask players to rearrange contracts to be paid more this year, giving us space next year, not take a pay cut.

And everyone wants some of it. If it were just extra cap space GWS would make a similar offer

Obviously our record of closing deals for big fish is terrible, but let's assume he does the sensible thing and laughs at North

Cap space will be easy because we will need to trade serious assets to get the deal done

Himmelberg Jnr
First
JJ (cap space?)
Still not nearly enough & with J Cameron / Lobby they don't need JJ

What do they need? That we have?

Key defenders? Hartigan just signed.

Ruck? We don't have

Mids? We don't have and they do?

Forward pocket to replace Stevie J?
Charles?

Maybe Charles, Himmelberg + 1st&2nd?
Himmelberg, first (14-18), future first (14-18), plus something else. They'd still be the losing club, and the losing club always takes it on the chin to some degree.

Fair but reckon we'd need to add a real player to clear some more room.

Whilst 2 late firsts are of some value, GWS don't have a great need for more picks

Saw one article linking then to Dusty. Bold move: swap Kelly for dusty (FA) and bank the return from Kelly whilst taking dusty for free

Late firsts are of more value to GWS (and the Suns) than other clubs, because they can convert them into higher ranked academy kids rather than accept the players still available in the 20s, and I believe they have more coming again; small, but something.

Our cap space I don't know about.

Dusty for Kelly like that would be a clever move, andhonestly it wouldn't bother me that GWS got Dusty if we piked up Kelly in the process, I think he's, if not the better player, then certainly the better player for us

They wouldnt be able to afford Dusty. Their problem will be fitting their existing stars into their salary cap. Its beyond me why the went for Delidio. Is he going to cost them keeping hold of guys like Kelly. They have that much talent in that squad its ridiculous. Mo superstars mo problems.

TBH Richmond are mad for trying to keep Dusty by paying massive overs for him given their current plight. They are another team that needs a full rebuild.
Judd, Tippett, Franklin, Dangerfield, Thomas, Ablett - has any club, who paid big dollars, gone onto win a premiership?

I would prefer to do a Hawthorn than a Carlton. Pay in picks rather than $$$

But Hawks built their side after being shit and getting picks which they used very wisely.

Given the Geelong amendment we can trade away our next seven billion first rounders.
