Once the Collective Bargaining Agreement and salary cap is signed off and is 10% to 20% (1 to 2 million) extra.

We offer Rockliff 800k 4 year deal. Brisbane take compo pick 2.
We trade Jenkins to Brisbane for pick 19.
Pick 19 to Carlton for Gibbs.
Hopefully sign both Lever 500k and McGovern 400k.
Mackay should have been payed out fully or near fully after missing Gibbs last year.

Assuming the salary cap rise will include a payrise to the minimum waged players which wouldn't be a great chunk. If cap goes up 20% thats 2 million extra. Jenkins and Mackays wage pays for Rockliff with 150k change. Gibbs was front ended by Carlton so he won't be 700k a year more like 500k. Lever and McGovern assuming Lever is paid 250k and McGovern maybe 150k-200k now giving 500k-600k payrise between them. Bottom wage increase rise I'll leave 300k out for that which could be high. Leaves 800k spare.

I don't think we will land a Kelly Dusty or Fyfe one of these 3 should be plan A definitely.

Now I might be ambitious here but Hawks need picks. If we offered Rioli 700k 3 year deal and gave Hawks our 2017 1st and 2018 3rd.

In. Rockliff, Gibbs, Rioli
Out. Jenkins, 2017 1st, 2018 3rd
Crazy or not?

Oh it is crazy

Enjoyable nonetheless

Rioli pass, injury prone, suspect hammies and we want him with our recent hammy issues?..pass...pass...pass, we have Eddie for several more years, and his heir apparent Cameron, not to mention it's not out of the question Ben Jarman shapes up.

So Jenkins just signs on and you think we ship him out, you're forgetting contracts work both ways here.

You do realise champion team / team of champions thing isn't a thing though?
Not sure what makes a concept a "thing" but a quick search shows the phrase was first used in 1911 by the Advertiser no less about the Norwood football team. Since then it has been used around the world in relation to sports teams, corporate boards, leadership conferences, orchestras etc so I think with that long history and widespread use it at least qualifies as a "thing".

Thing is, we wouldn't want Cameron playing as a pure small forward, more up the ground. Jarman's still an unknown at this stage, but I reckon he'll make it.

FTR I don't want Rioli. Hopefully someone like Orazio wants to come home when Eddie retires, or Tyson Stengle ;)

Last seasons Grand Finalists would beg to differ I reckon.

I dont remember the Dogs list having any more praise heaped upon it than ours prior to last season. Now all of a sudden everyone suggests that they have an awesome list.
Why? They won the flag I guess.
Not sure your memory is the point

They have some great talent on that list, which hasn't ever been in dispute

They've had a bunch of FS and high picks, most of whom have panned out

They've had great rookie list success

Why not? Real Madrid a few years ago comes to mind. US basketball dreamteam at the Olympics in Greece. Many others are there.
you choose a team that has won the European cup 11 times; and the winner of 7 of the last 8 Olympic gold medallists to prove your point?

What next using Roger Federer to prove the Swiss can't play tennis?

What has a clubs history got to do with any particular team in its history in this analogy. You do know that just because a club is able to put together a single team of champion players that this doesnt mean that all past and future teams that represent the club are not held to the same standard.

If you knew anything about what I had specifically refered to you would understand that they are perfect examples. Madrid had a decade of percieved failure where they continued to try to build a "galactico" team specifically to win the UEFA champions league where they couldnt win it. They bought the worlds best player after player continously breaking their own transfer record but couldnt win it for about 10 years. They were literally a team that was supposed to have the best players in the world on the transfer market. Galactico essentially means the worlds most elite players. The lesson learned from that period of failure was that you cant just have galacticos. They needed to balance that pure attacking skill with defensive players and a more defensively prudent tactical approach. They are the perfect example of the team of champions vs champion team analogy.

As for the US olympic team. Olympics are 4 years apart. How does one particular team relate to the other 7 that you have mentioned. Its actually less than 7 because basketball used to be for amateurs and not professionals. So they werent best of the best. Since NBA players were allowed to play the US team was supposed to be on a another planet to all other countries (at least from the point of view of western media). Yet even with what was supposed to be hands down the best squad of players at the tournament they didnt win gold at Athens.

Were they talked up any more than us after we knocked them out of finals the year before (serious question,my memory is often off point)?

Anyway my point being that if you look at Sydney and Bulldogs on paper prior to the season or even prior to the GF, you see one team of champs and one team of battlers/potentially good players, who end up becoming the champs through a champion team effort.

Greg Swann saying Rocky to recommit.
Don't believe anything till the player sends out his new old club tweet.

We fluffed it. He was there for the taking last year. Has really gone to another level this year as well. Bittersweet though really because I feel for the Lions with this Schache stuff going on.

I would take their 3 flags in the 00s (and sadly one losing gf that broke my heart) all day every day and be in their current situation tbh.

I don't think Rockliff would have agreed to move anywhere at the end of last year. His partner was just about to give birth.

So here is a question.
Richmond\Carlton make a big play for Lever.
Freo\WestCoast make a big play for McLovin
Who do you try to hold onto since we have made a big play for Kelly.
Do you try for Lever\Kelly or Mclovin\Kelly or Lever\Mclovin, cause I'm not sure we could do all 3

Me I'd lean towards Lever\Kelly
