We don't tend to have our mids rotate through half back. Seem to always have a stable back 7 with 6 on the ground and one on the bench at all times.
I'd suggest that's more playing to our players strengths more than a decisive plan. If we bring in Gibbs it's to play on ball allowing someone like Sloane to play more outside where he can run and break a tag giving us 3 A grade mids (Gibbs, Sloane, M.Crouch), an A grade ruck (Jacobs) and one mid who we hope will be A grade next season (B.Crouch)

Pretty much.;)

Atkins can be frustrating at times but his good this year far, far outweighed his bad.
He's one of the few attacking playmakers we have that can make things happen, whilst he can f*** up at times some of what he pulls off at times is sublime. It could be argued he's just coming into his prime after taking several years to get his head around what's required at AFL level and IMO now is not the time to cash in our chips.
Thanks :)

I'd say it is absolutely 100% a plan.

We are very structured and have very set groups of forwards, mids and defenders. They work as a little cluster and it's exceptionally rare that we move outside it.

Changes almost always are to fit a role, we never shuffle things around to get our next best player in.

Geelong, taking up their 1 year contract offer
Geelong only offered him 1 year in the end to avoid clubs thinking they could get him as a delisted free agent and therefore nullifying any potential FA compensation

Now he has gone unwanted out of free agency they may rescind the token offer

CC pick and Atkins for Gibbs

Make it happen. Atkins goes missing in big games and is a one way runner.

Sloane is the same age now as Gibbs was last year. Is anyone taking pick 14 & Jake Kelly type for Sloane

Give Carlton enough to sell it as a win to the fans, and not so much it makes much difference to us

Gallucci into CC’s role and Gibbs for Atkins makes us a shit load better on field for 2018. Doedee can cover Fake and we’ve got 2 firsts from Melbourne

We need Gibbs, and Carlton need to cash him in.

I happen to think Gibbs class might have been the difference in the GF, when we were up in the first with momentum. Do we surrender with his class and silk in there? I’m not sure we go to water so easily

Soft spot for Brisbane
Of course they will give up Schache for Cameron as there are no genuine takers for Schache. Read somewhere that richmond most likely for Schache but lions will receive not a great deal for him. If we were to get 12 for cameron, that would be paying 12 for gibbs. Carlton massively win that. Carlton will come to us desperate later in the week when the Kennedy deal is about to fall over. Same with brisbane once they realise that we are not trading cameron for anything worse than pick 12. Still think cameron will be playing at the crows next year if brisbane dont pony up. Clubs will get desperate last 2 days. Mark my words, we have hand for the first time in a long time and clubs don't like it. **** them all.
They can trade their 18 2nd for Kennedy.

There's plenty of ways to get Kennedy. We don't want to be smartasses again, like we were last year when we thought they'd cave to get picks for Pickett etc.

Cameron → Brisbane = Pick 18 + Pick 43
Pick 16 + Pick 43 → Essendon = Francis + Pick 24 + Pick 48

And now for the killer

Pick 10 + Pick 18 + Pick 24 + Pick 48 + Atkins → Carlton = Gibbs + Pick 3 + Pick 40 + Pick 58

Head to the draft with: Pick 3, Pick 40, Pick 54, Pick 58

Out: Cameron, Lever, Atkins, Pick 16, Pick 36, 2018 3rd
In: Gibbs, Francis, Pick 3, Pick 40, Pick 58, 2018 1st, 2018 4th

Carlton send 10 to Brisbane for Schache. Carlton send Pick 24 to GWS for Kenendy, and take 18 to the draft.

Out: Gibbs, Pick 3, Pick 40, Pick 58
In: Schache, M. Kennedy, Atkins, Pick 18, Pick 48

There’s no way Carlton do that deal

Yeah i think 4 years (33YO) is realistic .......hasn't had many injuries, so appears to have a body that can go the distance
Has only been playing as a hybrid mid for a couple of years. His good injury history is mostly made from him playing as a full time outsider. Adds a little bit of uncertainty to my mind.

Ok, what about ...

Pick 10 + Pick 18 + Pick 24 + Pick 48 + Atkins → Carlton = Gibbs + Carlton's 2018 First Round

I cannot see them giving up pick 3, and they will expect to improve next year.

We could package our all 2018 picks together next trade period and get into a position for Rankine.

Clubs are expecting a flurry of pick swaps late in the trade period. While deals involving players require them to consent to a proposed move, straight pick swaps can be done far more quickly. Clubs says pick swaps would already have been agreed to in principle and, provided some of those picks haven't been used in subsequent deals, can be ratified before Thursday's deadline

Here's another one:

Cameron → Brisbane = Pick 12

Pick 16 → Essendon = Francis + Pick 24

Pick 10 + 12 + 24 → North Melbourne = 2018 1st + Pick 23

Pick 23 + Atkins = Gibbs

Go to the draft this year with a third round pick.

IN: Gibbs, Francis, 2018 1st (NM), 2018 1st (Melb), 2018 4th
OUT: Lever, Cameron, Pick 16, Pick 35, 2018 3rd

Effective Trades
Lever + Cameron → 2x 2018 1sts
Pick 16 → Gibbs
Pick 35 → Francis
Late Pick Swaps

2017 Moves
IN: Gibbs, Francis, Pick 54, Greenwood, Keath
OUT: Lever, Cameron, Thompson, Menzel, Gore
