So I expect the media will come out and slam the hell out of Motlop and his assumptions for saying he's going to Port because he wants to win a premiership.
Like they did to Walker for simply uttering the word success, not even premierships.

Nice slap in the face for Geelong too, seeya guys, you can't do it and I'm outta here.
Motlop obviously hasn't been paying attention to the fact Port haven't beaten a top 8 team in about 2 years.
Can't wait for Jim Bartel to comment

Mmmm just being cynical .....so why don't Sth Aust players get homesick for mum, after they move to Victoria ?
My guess is they enjoy living in Victoria.

South Australia used to be the 3rd most populated state. Now it’s the 5th.

In 17 years SA population has raised 3.07%. That’s the 2nd lowest behind Tasmania at 1.72%. Even NT raised by 6.27%. The others are QLD 5.68%, NSW 6.02%, Vic 7.05%, ACT 8.56, WA 11.2%. The Australian population has gone up by 6.72%. If SA had gone up by the national average, we would have another 60,000 to 70,000 people here.

The sooner people realise it the better. SA is a less desirable place to live than most other states as shown by the statistics, not my opinion! Before certain people jump on their high horse about this, I’m not saying people who want to live here are stupid, or wrong, or that it isn’t a good place. Many people are very happy here. But the statistics are there for the whole population and after all, footy players are part of the population.

Player retention will be a talking point for SA clubs until the stats swing a different way.

I was just thinking about how glad I am the club is making a stand.

We are only coping shit across the media because we are challenging the Victorian-bias.

It's their way of painting our actions in a negative way, turning the neutrals against us, trying to deter others from acting as we have.

Keep fighting the good fight, AFC.

Did Motlop think the "port" in his contract was silent..?

 Another Girlfriend inspired move ......must be about to have a baby & be close to Mum

I must have exposure to a different generation .....because all the 20+ somethings i know have never been more independent of their parents apron strings ?

Seriously is this a professional sport ? .....these guys are getting $500K + a season .....i think the whole industry is getting sick of this amateur stuff .......gee half of youths are traveling the world & i doubt missing mum ?
It's amazing they can bring up the courage to go on these month-long overseas holidays at the end of each season

I was wrong to doubt them, very important update.
  • Imagine the chaos next year with Cameron and Sloane preparing to leave ... I mean look at the poor way Adelaide handled the Lever move.
  • By the time we get any deals done now, all the players that were available will be gone.
Awesome balanced perspective.
How exactly should we have done it better? Trade for less than we could get, and wait for the last day to do it (e.g. Stringer, Gibbs, Ablett....)

There is a real need to push this idea that we are running out of time ... the media guys need urgency coz they don't have anything else :)

We are basically at the start of the real trade week. Things will move along in the next few days - but...

A LOT OF IT WILL GET DONE ON THURSDAY ARVO !!!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Holy crap, Tippett in contracted to the Swans until 2020! That deal is really going to end badly for them.

He’s 31 now and headed in for an ankle reconstruction.
What also should be remembered is that had he stayed thats likely what we would have got out of him.

Dodged a bullet on one hand with his performance over the last 4 years.

Soft spot for Brisbane
The Dangerfield deal was probably the worst in modern history for value to us. We gave away a 2nd round pick for Menzel, who'd been dropped from the wooden spoon team. Lever should've been 2 first round picks straight up, without any other concessions. Our trading is the easily our weakest point. By a long way.
Geelong had more players out of contract. They could have taken Dangerfield for free.

They didn't because they wanted the room for Smith, Selwood and Henderson and they wanted to keep some favourite sons for another year.

The fact we turned that interest into us getting picks was a great result.

Everyone just thinking we'd get multiple firsts is delusional. Why would Geelong do that!?

Motlop: "The way I train, the way I play, the way I can't tackle, will fit in with the Port Adelaide footy club."

Yes, yes it will - so he's admitted going there so he continue being a soft, front-runner....
... whoosh down that hill ...

No way, he renegotiated a while back. Would think a dramatic pay cut.
You would hope so, wasn't he on $800k for a while there?
Apparently his latest contract is far less than the contract he originally signed. A Swan supporter told me closer to $450K. I have no idea if there is any truth in that or not.

I must say, I think it's time to shorten the trade period again, start it Friday after the GF, then then have until the following Friday. It's the same BS every year, clubs just fluffing about in staring contests for a week, before finally starting to do things on the last day.

Clubs essentially treat the week after the GF as the trade period anyway. It disadvantages the GF teams a touch, but that's why clubs have list managers who are less about the day to day and spend their time planning this stuff.

It used to be only a week, then clubs complained hey kept "running out of time". They were given a month, same BS happened. Basically clubs are going to wait till the last minute for most deals anyway, just save the rest of us this death by a thousand cuts business!

One week is plenty of time. Clubs have been in discussion for weeks, sometimes month beforehand. FFS!!

Make it a month (October) but tone down the media frenzy. Make it a window like in Soccer.

95% of Trade Week Radio is rubbish and ads. It really is not needed.
