On a scale of 8-15, how many beers do you reckon you've had tonight?

Ok I'll play along, if players are wrestling next to the point post then Hawkins has clearly missed the goal anyway. So, a free kick is awarded you can't just rag doll someone even if the siren has gone. Smith would have to take his kick from the boundary. Unless he was pushed from inside the goal square. You said towards the point post, that could start from the goal square.

Hawkins has the ball at the 45m odd range. Has not kicked.
Umpire decides the freekick is awarded at the point post range.

So hawkins 45 out directly in front becomes zac 5 out on an absurb angle where he cannot play on and snap a Stevie J style kick.

I'm not sure this is the case.
Nowhere in the rules do players get a choice about free-kicks.

Hey bud have a rules question for you..

Lets say Tom Hawkins takes a mark 40 metres out directly in front final qtr v Hawks on Monday. Hawks 3 points up. Siren has sounded.
Hawkins lines up and Gibson grabs Menzel in a headlock in the goal square before Hawkins takes his kick

What happens..
> hawkins takes the kick from where he is
> menzel gets the free kick from where Gibson head locked him?

Other....

Very curious bud as i have a 3rd option that afl coaches could/would use

12.6.1 Before Kick or in the act of kicking
After a field umpire has signalled that play has come to an end, any Field Umpire may award a Free Kick to any Player when a Player is preparing to kick or in the act of kicking for goal. In such a case, the following shall apply:-
(a) if the player awarded the free kick is playing for the attacking team, the free kick shall be award to the player where the infringement occured or, the player in the attacking team who is preparing to kick or in the act of kicking for goal shall be awarded a Fifty Metre Penalty, whichever is the greater penalty against the Defending Team

I'm not sure this is the case.
Nowhere in the rules do players get a choice about free-kicks.

they only get the choice if it is a secondary free kick after a shot on goal. They can choose to have the score annulled and take the kick again or to have the score counted
