Very unfortunate news, but I'm pretty sure Heath Grundy and Kieren Jack have had glandular fever before, you can get through it. But as H2F said it's not a short process.

EDIT: Grundy actually played with glandular fever when we beat the Cats in Geelong in 2011 and didn't realise he had it until after round 22 and as a result he didn't play in the finals - but he says here that he would have played if we had progressed past the second week!

Heath Grundy is actually such a BAMF. Probably the strongest bloke on our list. He's one of those blokes you just can't picture ever getting injured ever

2-4 week illness at best but then will need time to get fit again.

Best time frame possible. Seen plenty of people be diagnosed be as good as gold after a couple of weeks. Lets hope he is one of them. Not 100% sure but am led to believe people who have had it previously are the ones who take a considerably longer time to get over it when it occurs.

Yeah most symptoms resolve after 2-4 weeks but in certain individuals, like our own Alec Waterman, post-viral fatigue can set in and can be tough to get over.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to Heeney - he's such a gun. I especially admire his contested marking for such a young bloke. When the ball is kicked to him, you guys must feel pretty confident that he'll swallow it up.

"When it is we're not really sure yet, he'll get to doing a bit of training next week, but we won't push him too hard because we don't want to set him back either."

Not sure what to make of that, hopefully this means it's not a bad case...

Bedfroth is right and this time of year I can understand erring on the side of caution. Most of our team have had good preseasons. Heeney shouldn't lose too much from a fantastic base. There is depth and more scope for testing out some new talent. We don't depend on Heeney to win and anyone dropping into his spot will see it as a chance to squeeze into a crowded team.

Macca might be done by the sounds of his injury
Doesn't sound good. Older player, repeated soft tissue problems. At least we know it won't be for lack of trying on his part. Even if he gets his body right he has a lot of catching up to do. I'd hate to see him get himself up then fade out through the NEAFL. I'm still pissed off that O'Keefe didn't get a farewell game after what he gave to this club.

once you've had it its very rare to get it again. also, if you are healthy and fit when you get it it improves your chances of a swift recovery.

the quote said he'd miss two matches. i know calves can go on and on when you are old and some people on here want to retire him but i think he will be a big loss as he is probably the best kick in the team imo.

Unlike us mere mortals, the club would have noticed something was up with Heeney after the North game & they would have started testing asap so by the time the announcement came out yesterday, the recovery plan would have been well underway. Sounds like it will be a matter of fitness by those comments.

I think poor Macca will struggle with this one as it has been a problem last preseason, at the end of last season affecting his finals campaign & now this preseason! So that is 2 preseasons missed or affected for a 31 year old. I fear this one will go down the Craig Bolton, Marty Mattner path where Macca could very well eventually get himself right, but the battle to catch up to others in the 22 that may do a great job as his replacement/s, may become too great at this stage of his career.
I hope he still has another chapter in his playing career as a Swan but I have no doubt he will become a good assistant in the coaches box.

Better kick than Buddy?? I'm not sure about that.

I love the bloke, geez - in his prime I might have even given him a reach around but the time has come for him to let some more youth come through. I would love to see him in a mentoring/coaching role

i am sure about that. i have watched 'buddy' dribble them along the ground too many times for my liking. even the best players can improve. he holds onto the ball too long imo and takes too long to make decisions which puts pressure on other.

i would still have him in the best 22 if he gets fit again.

I love the bloke. Reckon he was a good leader who showed the kind of passion for the club I'd love each player to have.

But last season he was soft and really started becoming a bit of a liability IMO. He had moments of good games but on a whole I think he'd even agree it wasn't a solid season for him. He certainly wasn't the "steadying influence" the article describes I don't think. If anything, he was almost the opposite IMO.
