Josh Kelly and Jacob Hopper hurt at GWS Giants training, adding to injury curse

JOSH Kelly is in doubt for next week’s clash against Brisbane after pulling up sore at training on Saturday.

It is understood the AFL’s most wanted man tweaked a hip but has not yet been ruled out of Greater Western Sydney’s clash with the Lions at the Gabba.

The Giants confirmed both Kelly and Jacob Hopper had suffered minor injuries at training over the bye week.

Hopper rolled an ankle, with the Giants to reveal more details on Monday after assessing scans.

“Both will undergo further assessment in the next day or two. They are undergoing assessment after pulling up tight at training.”

GWS is confident it will retain Kelly despite multi-million dollar offers from Carlton, St Kilda and North Melbourne.

Of more immediate concern is the lengthening injury list for the Giants, which has likely lost Ryan Griffen (ankle) for the year.

Brett Deledio last week injured his left calf at training and has only slim hopes of returning to football this year after repeated setbacks.

Rory Lobb is expected to return against the Lions after carrying a lingering groin injury, with Stephen Coniglio, Devon Smith and Nick Haynes still out with injuries.

Matt Buntine and Adam Kennedy are both out for the season after needing knee constructions.

Questions have to be asked now what the hell is happening at training? This isn't just a once off player after player is getting injured at training it can't be just bad luck time to look at what the hell they are doing.

Seems to be happening a lot during the weekend training sessions the last couple weeks

Deledio was injured training last Saturday wasn't he?

Lids and the club it seems have taken every measure they can with his calves. Can't see how this can be a knock on the club. We have had a few ankles this year. There have been a couple of re-injuries and a fresh one with Hopper. The club will be taking a look at this no doubt.

Leon seemed keen on Haynes being available and not so optimistic on Lobb pre bye. Both listed as tests and it may change over two weeks. Haynes might play NEAFL I get but not certain?

Starting to get closer to our best 22 if that is the team that plays. Would be a full strength back 7. From best 22 Smith, Coniglio, Griffen and Deledio only ones missing.

Id have Reid instead of Mzungu but don't gain/lose much either way.
