McCarthy might not be back at all this year.

Lincoln McCarthy is yet to rule out a return to football in 2017, though admits the time may soon come when he is forced to concede his season is over.

Having already missed two full seasons through separate injuries, McCarthy understands the precarious position he now finds himself in and says pushing his body any further may not be the right move for his career long-term.

“I’ve definitely thought about it and I’m sure the physios have as well,” McCarthy told K rock Football on Sunday.

“We’re at a period now where I really want to play at the end of the year, but there might be a point in a few weeks time where we say there’s probably not enough time and we’re probably doing the wrong thing by pushing it to try and play.”

A bit of up close look at the dent in Tom's forehead yesterday

Prob time to pull the plug on him. We just can't keep hoping that the likes of him, Cowan, Gregson are going to get right. Fantastic we stuck with Menzel but he was a prococious talent. The others aren't.

He is contracted so no.

Cowan is gone though.

Cowan definitely. McCarthy and Gregson are contracted, 2019 and 2018 respectively.

So we probably now have:
Narkle knee Season
Gregson foot Season
Cowan achilles Season
Parfitt hamstring 2-3 weeks (based on he is back in training)
McCarthy groin Possibly Season
OConnor ankle TBA
Ruggles AC joint 4-6 weeks
Stewart eye socket TBA
Cockatoo hamstring 2-3 weeks
Henderson groin Test
Smith illness Test
J Selwood concussion Test
S Selwood hamstring Test
Lang knee Test
Cunico ankle Test

Injuries certainly piling up hopefully some of the Tests make it to the line this week and then hopefully we get cockatoo parfitt and stewart back over the next few weeks.

Anyone else a bit annoyed at the S Selwood hamstring soreness.
Not even remotely surprising seeing as he left the field against West coast and couldnt return because of it.

Krock was speaking with Linc pre-match and he was talking about the groin issue. He said it was something that isn't uncommon amongst 1st year players when they step up their level of training, playing, running etc. He went on to say that because of the time out of the game he has experienced with injuries he was virtually a first year player last year which is when he was first dealing with groin issues, and it's been the same with Menzel since he returned full time from his 4th knee reco as he battled with groin soreness also.

It was something Linc dealt with last year but he was able to play through it and come seasons end it was thought that with rest he would be fine which he was until the early rounds of this season, and it really was only after round 3 that he did pull up sore. This season they initially decided against surgery as the first option because with groin issues they can come good on their own which is what all parties were hopeful of over the first couple of weeks - the idea that rest for a week and see if it improves. But when it became clear that it wasn't improving on it's own, that's when he went in for surgery after 4 weeks. They did ask if there was any consideration to having surgery after last season but that was shot down pretty quickly as it wasn't something that needed surgery at the time and may not actually have made a difference to what he is currently battling.

It was quite interesting to listen to him talk about the issue and with the level of honesty because you could tell there was frustration in that he got his foot issues right heading into last season, only then to encounter a new issue because he was actually fit. And he said he could be anywhere between 4 and 8 weeks away, just depends on how things keep healing.

If it's just soreness what do they operate on to fix that?

Or is the soreness likely a muscle tear or something?
From what has been reported as what Linc said on Krock, it sounds an awful lot like Ostitis Pubis
