GWS has a much tougher draw than they have ever had. Dogs have a lot of 6 day breaks, teams like the saints and Dees will benefit the most from this.
Unfortunately, Champion Data rated our draw for 2017 as the 3rd hardest (behind just Hawthorn and GWS) so we've got our own challenges. I can see as many as 17 "winnable" games for Melbourne if they're able to get their shit together at Etihad and in the NT though. They only have 4 interstate games against teams who are playing at their home ground (with one of those being North, in Tassie), which certainly helps. If playing a couple of home games in the NT means you only play 4 of those genuine interstate games then it's probably a pretty smart move.

I always find these threads hilarious. First people expect there to be little change from one season to the next....that is expect for their team! I was trying to find last year's ladder predictor thread to illustrate my point - who would have thought the Doggies would finish first? GWS make the prelims? Fremantle finish down the bottom of the ladder?

For mine I think that teams such as Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood will typically go better that opposition supporters predict. Why? - well because no one want them to succeed so they under rate/death-ride them of course! Teams always leap up the ladder - expect 2017 to be no different.

If there is one thing that you can predict with certainty it's that the season ahead will be unpredictable.

I agree with you mate, imo I reckon there could be as many as 4 teams who could make the top 8 next year who didn't this year. Even the teams that don't make the 8 could finish anywhere from just outside the top 8 to the bottom four. To me, that just shows that the competition is becoming more even in regards to most of the teams.

After a great deal of statistical modelling I have come up with:

1. GWS
2. Western Bulldogs
3. West Coast Eagles
4. Sydney
5. Adelaide
6. St Kilda
7. Fremantle
8. Essendon

9. Melbourne
10. Carlton
11. Geelong
12. Gold Coast
13. Port Adelaide
14. Hawthorn
15. Richmond
16. Collingwood
17. Brisbane
18. North Melbourne

The only thing you've exposed is your poor reading of context and your inability to let something go and just move on.

I won't be seeing your posts from here on, so for everyone else's sake let the thread get back to the discussion of predictions.
Wow, just wow. first you have a go at someone else, then you do exactly the same thing. You then try to cover your tracks and lie about what they posted.

You're a hypocrite

Richmond in the 8? That is a very rare prediction for 2017 ... possible I guess, is it the trade or the draft period that gives you notion they will improve next year?

Yeah it is a bit weird, I think I was in the minority tipping them to miss the 8 this year too. Played finals for a few years, generally expected to be around top 4.
IMO Richmond spent too long not fixing their midfield, which resulted in a crap year. But they picked up Caddy and Prestia; then had a good draft with Bolton (who I wanted at Carlton) and Graham. All except Bolton are tough mids, which they really needed.
Don't see losing Vickery or Deledio causing any great issues. Ruck division maybe a bit of a concern.

I think there's an unasked question there on why I had Adelaide sliding out. I've got you in a similar basket to West Coast - Great forwardline, great backline, midfield is good if Naitanui / Jacobs is playing. Midfield by far the most important, and I'm a bit worried about Jacobs' form.

Jacobs had no effect on 2016 so wont affect our chances that much even if je goes backwards again.

Agreed. People in general expect the status quo even though history tells them the one constant is actually change. The challenge to predict is that amount of change once you get that.

I rate it worse than trying to do a weather forecast 7 to 10 days out.
You got little chance of getting it right.
For the fun of it have a very rough stab at this early stage after trades done and national draft over.

End of home and away ladder

GWS

Bulldogs
West Coast
Melbourne
Sydney
St.Kilda
Adelaide

Richmond
Hawthorn
Gold Coast
Collingwood
Carlton
Port Adelaide
North Melbourne
Brisbane
Essendon
Fremantle

I am expecting Melbourne to pass a few sides going downhill such as North and Hawks.
I still give Hawks, tigers, Suns and Pies a chance of making the bottom end of final 8 but at this stage favour Crows and Saints just keep them out. However I think for Saints they are just rising this year then take a step back when Nick Riewoldt and Montagna retire. Melbourne, like the Dogs a couple of years back, are on a genuine rise. They may not rise as much as I expect next year but they got enough young talent that played together for 2 or 3 years to start to produce more consistently. Think the Swans will miss Tom Mitchell a little but they will not drop out of finals any time soon. Crows just treading water, Eagles added some depth and got a smart coach in Simpson so every chance they make top 4 again after falling back last season. Tigers will rise a few spots now Cotchin has some genuine midfield help in Prestia but Caddy is only younger the Deledio, not better so their improvement just marginal for next year.

I fully expect 2 to 3 teams I will be out by up to 6 places on ladder.
For the premiership GWS are team to beat for next 5 years with talent they have.
Only Steve Johnson suspension stopped them making their first grand final.
Dogs should be contenders again. Geelong need a few changes to be a serious contender . Would not surprise me if they made top 4 again and found themselves short on prelim final day like they did this year v Sydney.

Amusing those who have the Bombers at or near bottom.

You start at the top and we have Woosher and his highly experienced staff. Facilities and physio, doctors and so on that are World Class. Plenty of back office and corporate support.

Count on 60-70,000 members and a friendly draw.

When you add the 5 guys we got Friday, PLUS the Draft Trade signing of CHF Stewart from GWS Holdings - literally a Joey clone, PLUS Kelly, Dea and Green as Free Agents, PLUS the games into Laverde, Langford, Tippa, Fantasia, Gleeson, Parish, Redman etc., PLUS the emergence of 200cm Hartley at Full Back and the big name scalps he collected in his first year PLUS the emergence of Zak Merrett as an elite mid PLUS the returning of the 10......

PLUS especially wait for the 2017 emergence of Draft Pick #6 last year, Aaron Francis who has taken a year to build a AFL body.

Good luck getting a game in the backline choosing from Baguley, Kelly, Dea, Hartley, Hurley, Tippa, (can play forward), McGrath, Hooker (can play forward, Gleeson, Francis (can play forward).......

If any doubt wander over the EFC Website and look at List when it is finalised after Monday where I expect we will take Xavier Richards who played for AFL Lovechild #1 in the Granny in PSD or one of the highly talented kids not picked up. Plus the Rookie.

Look out.......;)

Bottom four?.......:D:rolleyes:

Gotta like someone backing their club for the coming year, and without rubbishing any other club. Best post in this thread in my humble opinion.
