2020 will be the year we next play finals.

A few teams will drop off in the next couple of years as we start improving rapidly. It may not even be a case of us 'being ready' to play finals. We may Bradbury it into finals earlier than expected..

West coast will be losing Mitchell, Priddis, Petrie this year with Josh Kennedy turning 31 next year and I don't see a lot of replacements waiting in the wings (pun intended). Expect a rebuild from them.

Essendon on top of losing Jobe, Kelly this year also have a 33 year old Goddard coming into next year. That's 3 of their top 10 players potentially gone after losing a final by 10 goals in 2017 with a draw this year which saw them play 7 of their last 8 games against bottom 8 sides. Still only just scraped into finals.

Hawthorn, no Hodge, Gibson and 35 year old Burgoyne and no first round draft picks. Still reckon the pain is on its way for the Hawks.

The cats are already showing the cracks, they may also possibly be without Harry Taylor on top of Lonergan and Mackie next year..

Collingwood are going nowhere.

Freo losing Michael Johnson and having a 34 year old injury prone Sandilands will hurt (6 of their 8 wins this year came with Sandi in the ruck). Mundy also 33 next year. Big question marks.

GC, big question marks.

North Melbourne, big question marks.

For me we need to fill at least 10 spots in best 22 for our 66game reset to be completed. I've left out the older players I see it that if they are still there when we are winning finals and flags then they are a bonus. I've also left out player that I'm not 100% and could fill some of the spot we are missing. They are McKay, Kerr, Polson, LeBois and Cuningham. These guys are young and haven't played a lot of footy. I also have a couple of player who I would say are 50/50 are Lamb, Boekhorst and Bynes.

The position we need to fill are
1 Small defender- someone to play on the betts type of small forwards.
2 inside mids- to help Cripps
1 wingman- good ball user with pace
2 tall forwards- I have Curnow playing HF/mid
2 small forwards - this could be Lamb and LeBois (Pickett is the 3rd)
1 Ruck- Kreuzer I have in the older group but my still be around but we have very little to back him up.

For me it's about flags nothing else

I'm not getting why youre upset with that comment. I'm sure everyone at the club will say the same thing. 7 years with no finals will be a failure. Not saying we can't recover from that failure and everything will be rosey, but there are measures of success associated with a rebuild, and not reaching finals after 7 years of rebuilding will be deemed a resounding failure

How about worrying about it IF it happens not continually prophesizing like you want it to happen.

Bottom line is we have just finished year TWO of the rebuild. Long long way to go yet and many things can happen. Club has stated this is about "long term sustainable success" and if it takes us an extra year or two to get the right players in and developed I am all for it. Much better than getting ahead of ourselves and going for more quick fixes. Patience!

I am saying IF our focus is on season 2023 we will risk failing.

I.e. No finals by 2021 will be considered failure.

I'm not prophesizing it, I'm saying there is no way that is going to happen because I don't think that is the clubs plan at all.

Understand your point.

I just don't want us to get sucked into "doing a North Melbourne" where we have a team that is top 8 for numerous years but realistically speaking was never going to win a flag.

We need to keep our eye on the big prize - if it takes us a little longer to get there that's fine by me.

Kangaroos didn't have the talent that we've already got. They were a team of B/B+ players, who worked hard but overall lacked star quality. We've already got ~6 players who are likely enough to be out and out stars of the comp.

Geelong have a heap of his type.

Cockatoo, Parfitt, Motlop, Murdoch, Menzel and McCarthy.

Also they have added Menengola and S Selwood to MID rotations.

He's been squeezed out.

Ironically it appeared SOS saw what was going to happen to him - but Lang himself didn't.

Geelong's drafting has been quite poor for a number of years now, and it's starting to show imo. (They also traded out a fair bit, which hasn't helped).

You've completely missed my original point.

I.e. Winning a flag in 2023 as our goal - not "making finals in 2023".
