We need someone to kick 30-50 goals, which we do not have at the moment. Kick goals you win games, and you climb up the ladder. Pretty simple. otherwise we can go on about how much potential Casboult has...if he could kick straight.
North Melbourne in 1989 had Wayne Carey and Longmire early in their careers kick 9 goals between them that season in a total of 20 games combined. Get some patience. In that moment North did not have someone kick 30 to 50 goals but those guys in future were more than capable of doing that. North just had to be patient as they developed for a few years and started really make inroads in 1993 with big winning scores. 1994 they missed the grand final by a late goal from GOD in one of best preliminary finals ever.
What you are suggesting of getting Crameri would be like North Melbourne chasing a washed up Warwick Capper and hoping they going to be in a grand final the next year.
We got some young tall forwards like Harry McKay, Charlie Curnow, Jack Silvagni and Pat Kerr needing time to develop and learn to play against far more seasoned bodies week after week. We already got Casboult taking some of their space, why would we fill the forward line with another marking forward like Crameri and not let them develop ?
I just do not get the short sighted view here. Surely you realise we realistically are not going to be contender for premierships until next decade. If we were like Port and thought a top up for a current contention was worth doing, then it might make some sense but Crameri to Carlton makes no sense to me. Much rather let the young guys develop and learn to play the forward line themselves and learn to kick more goals and they get more games under their belt. Some of these players to kick 30 to 50 goals are on our list already and could be doing that in a year or two. In 3 to 5 years we may have 3 to 4 guys able to all kick over 40 goals in a season. That excites me to watch them develop together.
Crameri does not excite me at all. Total dead end plan there. Best before 2016 should be written on his player file.
