Interesting listening to Hardwick earlier today, he said Cotchin decided last year he would become the hunter not the hunted, that 2017 would be more about how many players he could hurt than how many kicks he gets. Marc Murphy needs to adopt a more aggressive attitude. His tackling would be among the worst I have ever seen from a captain. Just recognising the need to change and then deciding to make the change was leadership by Cotchin. Our players must look at MMs lame attempts to tackle and think well if it's good enough for the captain then it's good enough for me. I'm not saying MM has to become a kamikaze but he's got to develop a harder edge, I cannot see this team winning a flag with MM playing the kind of compromised football he plays.
I agree, but I don't think he physically can. For starters, he is small and it's not generally in his nature. Both of those aspects work against him in that regard. But, even more concerning is his body. He's had too many head knocks and busted shoulders to commit to that type of play style and get through I season I think. I could be wrong, but that's what looks like his issue has been this year. Spirit willing (although an argument can be made to say it's actually been broken a bit) but the flesh is weak.

I agree, has no confidence in fully extending his arms.

There should be a policy/strategy in place for us to Rookie List worthy Northern Blues Listed players (at least one per year).

This not only provides a pathway for players in the Northern Region, but provides an incentive for players to come to Northern if they know there is a chance to get on the Carlton List.
I really like this.
Imagine making a statement that every year CFC will rookie list a player from the Northern Blues no matter what. It would make a lot of VFL, WAFL and SANFL players take note.

Love it.
FWIW there was that recent rumour that O'Shea was going to be rookie listed for next year, so maybe the club has seen the light.

We have been led to believe by MS3 that Bolton and SOS are about recruiting only those that have very good foot skills and if that's the case, then I don't think we would look at O'Shea.

If that's the case then he shouldn't be captain, sad but true.

Captain should lead the way.

Murph can be super damaging on the outside. If we can afford to play him there.

If only we could anticipate the return of Cripps and Curnow, the recruitment of Kennedy and maybe Rockliff to free him up to a wing....

Sigh, all impossivle of course

Not a bad effort ST, couple of thoughts:

1. Are Saad, Simpson, Picket, Fisher, Smith(?), SPS, Wright and Cuningham all in the team going to cause too big of a drop off in physicallity?

2. Not sure Doch and Williamsons best positions are in the midfield - Doch is certainly more effective at half back

But Bolton certainly appears to be a big fan of multi-positional players

I think Williamson goes to a wing, Docherty will most likely play that 7th man role.

Another pre season for Cuningham, Fisher and Pickett and we'll see some big hits. Fisher and Pickett crack in hard and don't seem to be afraid of tackling and pressure. Cuningham has the frame to be a pretty big body.

More smaller, faster players able to get to more contests, create pressure & turnovers.
I think there is a correlation.

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
Numbers around the ball
At stages they didn't even bother having a ruck
When the ball hit the ground they had players there to swoop or tackle
Crows looked very slow

The best Richmond player's from yesterday's premiership were recruited from 2007 to 2012. Anyone expecting preliminary finals for Carlton pre 2021 is dreaming. Also I expect at least 1 football department and Coaching review between 2020-2022. Has the club and supporters the patience to stick with the process, journey etc?

Why is Casboult in that side? It has enough talls who can actually play football

Anything is possible, If we continue with a few good trade periods and drafts then top 4 in 2020 should be the aim. Most of our players will have 4 years experience by then.
