I'd do 10 for Smith and Kennedy.
It all comes down to Smith's knee. Two years ago he was a gun, untradeable player, there are some concerning signs lately though. But I agree, if his knees are looking pretty good then pick 10 is a good price.

Not sure we'll get 10 though, SOS may prefer 2 late first rounders.

One bloke has knee issues and the other has shown very little.

Current value for both including a salary dump would be second rounder.

Glad you're not running our footy department.
By this logic, if we had to trade Harry we would be lucky to get a late 2nd rounder.

Kennedy was a 1st round pick 2 years ago (12 I think) and was highly rated.

What has pick 10 shown in comparison?

there are no other teams worthy
Given Smith was available for GWS last game this knee concern is blown up by some.
It is not like he missed a year or something. He missed a month or a little more and the only issue was being match fit for hardened finals time. Just bad timing on his part when it happened. Good timing for us though it seems.
This actually plays into our hands to get him on the cheapish side by leaving him out but when match fit he is capable of being a serious gun. Develop him as a midfielder and upside could be some serious joy for us.

Jake Niall warbling the Pies may get into Adelaide with 2 first rounders for Lever.
Haha, pick 6 and probably 10ish next year...I’m in the Lever is great camp and believe he’s worth 2 x 1st rounders but I wouldn’t give both “those” first rounders.

Would love to see Collingwood do a Britney Spears - oops I did It again

I'm not going to take any trades that SOS makes in isolation. Individual trades may appear to favor one team more than another. It's the total sum that is the important solution. Given the teams that we are likely to be involved with (two top four teams, another in crisis/development) I'm anticipating some head scratching type trades to be announced.

Personally, Adelaide can keep the Pies/Dees first pick and it wont make that much of a difference in a Gibbs trade. For example, if we get Rockliff via free agency and trigger an end of first round compensation pick for Brisbane who in turn trade the pick to Adelaide for Cameron, we could end up with 16 and 18. One of those picks likely to be shipped to GWS with our 2018 second for Kennedy and Smith. We could then trade pick 18 (presuming GWS get 16) and our 3rd round selection for Saad and one of their seconds.

I'm pretty certain we'll walk away with those 4 at this stage while keeping pick 3. I'm still not in the pro-Saad camp but he does make a rather incredible fourth or fifth best list addition and is going to be vastly superior to the fourth or fifth best outgoing player.

Aside from more money, what pull do we have over Port?
We have a united club and organization from top to bottom. We don't have a president who is going to cut you to ribbons if you lose a hard fought final that could've gone either way.

I don't even want to imagine Kochie's response if it were Port instead of the Crows who played like that on Saturday. That type of reaction really damages a club's culture. I actually find it sad since for the most part he's done wonderful things for that football club.

Never underestimate the importance of club culture being the difference between where a player chooses to play and where they will not. We've got a good thing going and players around the AFL understand that.

Smith is the perfect player to bring in. Still fairly young, plays mostly as a small forward but can pinch-hit in the midfield, quick but tough... Watching Richmond this year, and the kind of small forward pressure from Bulldogs the year before, it is very jarring for good teams to be beaten so comprehensively. Imagine implementing a game style like that but with more talented players - SPS, Smith, Pickett, Rayner if we get him, Fisher etc. Get them to an elite fitness base and then use that extreme pressure game-style. All the above players are goal kickers as well.

Just makes me think we don't need to draft a midfielder with our first selection. If Gibbs stays, we get Rockliff and then somehow manage to also grab Kennedy and Smith we've just injected two big-bodied mids and another guy who is capable in there. I can't see us getting both Kennedy and Smith if Gibbs stays though. I can't see us generating enough currency otherwise, as our list is still poor and other clubs won't be trading for any of our fringe players.

We might have to settle for a second rounder for one of them? I'm not convinced Gibbs will stay. Could be a pretty important trade for Adelaide and Carlton if it sets them to where they want to be. Carlton need more young guns - Adelaide need another A-grade mid.

I agree with most of your post except for the bit where you say Gibbs is worth only one first rounder. Gibbs is elite talent and should be valued as such. Elite disposal skills and for all you know a pick 15 or 17 for him may be a dud. You want a guarantee of quality coming in the door for trading out one of your top 3 players.
Agreed. Gibbs was our highest polling player in the Brownlow and ranked 25th over all next to Treloar and Dylan Shiel. No way we're giving him up for a 2nd rounder.

Sounds like Kennedy is a good chance to come across, and happy either way if we retain Gibbs.

Would love to attack trade week aggressively and bring in the right type of players for our evolving gameplan. Love the idea of Saad though we're probably underestimating what he'll cost. I'd certainly prefer him to Lang though if we pick up Smith, and I'm bullish about our forwardline if we managed to land him.

Curnow, McKay, Rayner, Pickett and Smith, with SPS and Fisher rotating through. Murphy, Gibbs and Rockliff are all very capable up forward as well. All of a sudden we've got a far more damaging best 22 players out there, with a stack of match-winners.
Why do so many people think we'll have a chance at Rayner - he'll never get to pick 3. Shoe in for #1 IMO. Hope I'm wrong though as he would be great for us given how it seems we'll trade.

Such a Carlton feel about it too. Played at the Bullants didn't he?
Coburg.

He was literally right there and we were said to be interested in the rookie draft. But Billy Gowers and Brad Walsh were apparently higher priorities, ffs.

Just has to say he doesn't want to go interstate. Wouldn't be a slight on him as he'd know he'd stay in Victoria, which would be his preference anyway. Don't think he's that far ahead of LDU, Dow or even Fogarty, but he's undoubtably ahead.

A lot will hinge on the AA game I reckon.
