I have zero insight into who Barass70 is talking about. But I've thought for some time now that the "low hanging fruit" in terms of AFL trades are the players who are one year short of being free agents or restricted free agents.

It's like the world game... we need to tap up the players whose clubs think they will lose them for limited return the following season.

Given MS3's credentials, I'd say SOS is well and truly into this. The word on us approaching Freo over Fyfe last trade period seemed pretty strong.

So maybe have a think about who will be a 2018 free agent. Perhaps that's one of the surprises to which Barass70 refers?

I think what he's saying is that because there's been a lot of stuff in flux, SOS is going hard right now because it's the time where everyone is getting signed up.

Right now SOS is looking for value, shaking trees. We might have the ear of Kelly and Hopper, but there's plenty of players out of contract, out of favour, etc. What's happening right now won't really crystallise for another month at least.

Well if that is the case, this is a list of FA as of the end of 2018. I am sure I may have missed some, who have been resigned to extensions

I'd wouldn't mind if we're looking into Atley, Guthrie and of course Lynch.

Atley's only been so-so for North...wouldn't cost much but i reckon we could maybe unlock his full potential. Gives us half back speed if we can't get Saad.

Guthrie would add to our midfield mix and i think would complement our team nicely.

Lynch is Lynch. Nuff said.

Ok, I'm getting harder! Keep whispering.

May as well put my xmas wish in early as SoS is the new Santa.

1) Hopper for a pick 15-25
2) Kelly for a first rounder and some late pick (35+)
3) Secret unknown trade we havent discussed for a premium KP fwd (age 22-25) and paying appropriate pick for said player.
4) Martin to just see the Tigers completely combust
5) Lever for pick 15-20 to ensure our rebound is not limited to Doch once Simpson retires. Yes, I know our backline is travelling incredibly well!
6) Tippet or Reid for a pick 30+
7) Keep Kruezer
Where are we pulling all these picks from? Also didn't Kreuzer already trigger an extra year a month or so ago?

Where does everyone see the missing pieces at in terms of being a top 8 side by 2019 and a top 4 side by 20/21?

Lets keep is somewhat real in that we cant have a best 22 of world beaters. All recent prem side carried some players who did their role well enough. I've listed big names as examples but I'd be happy to take lesser that also fills a need but comes cheaper.

I see us missing the following pieces of the jigsaw assuming we don't lose a key player (no particular order in terms of needs):
  • One more inside midfielder (Hopper like) to support a chop out for Cripps
  • One more predominantly outside midfielder (Kelly, Dalhous, Macrae like) who can also get his own ball when required
  • One more key forward (assuming the next SoSoS comes along also). Obviously we want the real deal (Lynch) but would support an upgrade on Casbault if the option came along
  • One more gun draft mid taken with a top 10 pick
The prerequisite for each player is that 1) they can kick under pressure and lower their eyes going inside 50, and 2) aren't scared or intimidated by the level they are playing. Happy to drop big names if they meet the above criteria and can contribute. Just removing players like Army, Blaine, Buckley (Robinson/Bell in the past) helps us no end improve our side.
  • Our midfield group would run 8 deep by 2020 and with strong quality. Lose Murph. I see Williamson developing into a player who can play wing alongside who we need to source via trade (a kelly/dalhaus type)
  • Our fwd line would have developed by 2020 and we'd see a new KPF, Mckay, Curnow and Silver provide enough KPF goals given the nature of inside 50s would improve immeasurably through the development of SPS, Williamson, Fisher and someone of the ilk of Kelly.
  • Our current small fwds would be fine as our talls develop more and they learn the system. They would create for the current smalls to shine
  • Our backline just needs to develop with Byrne to replace Simpson.
  • Our ruck is fine for the moment. Cover would be nice but you cant get everything so I leave this one and just say develop/rookie someone at low cost.

Do you run through the midfield?

I can do anything, Bruce. A true utility.

I have the kicking skills of a pre-Sav Casboult, 1% the inside-mid skills of Ryan Houlihan, the game sense of Matt Korchek, the speed of Aaron Sandilands and the ACL of Rowe (unrepaired). All this at the prodigious height of shorter than Caleb Daniel (sans helmet)!

Here is my player profile

Just No. Pea heart who was spruiked pre draft as the next Judd. Last thing we need is to recruit conditional footballers with the pipe dream of turning them around.

Thoughts on the following:

Taylor Duryea (unrestricted) 26 year old
Jasper Pittard (unrestricted) 26 year old

Firstly, I would prefer to continue to nurture our youth as well as going back to the draft. We all know we have saved on TPP over the last two years. Both of the above are free hits, so would it be worthwhile picking up one of these guys on a modest salary and releasing the likes of a Williamson, to the midfield? (Wing)
