In the industry we talk a lot about desirable targets and destination clubs — the teams you’d want to go to and play for. Well, Carlton is exactly that right now.

Everyone can see where the Blues are headed. They’re doing all the right things, they’re progressing and their performances have become more consistent. They’re doing it week in, week out rather than one good performance then three bad ones.

GWS young gun Josh Kelly would be an ideal fit. He’s a gun already and he’s in the same age group as a lot of Carlton’s players. He fits the list profile perfectly and would definitely take the pressure off Murphy and Cripps and Gibbs too, if he stays. Kelly would add that outside class and polish the Blues are looking for.

Thoughts on the following:

Taylor Duryea (unrestricted) 26 year old
Jasper Pittard (unrestricted) 26 year old

I don't see much value in going for either of them.

If I had to choose one I'd go with Duryea, and let some other club overpay for Pittard. He's bog ordinary.

Firstly, I would prefer to continue to nurture our youth as well as going back to the draft. We all know we have saved on TPP over the last two years. Both of the above are free hits, so would it be worthwhile picking up one of these guys on a modest salary and releasing the likes of a Williamson, to the midfield? (Wing)

I have always said free agency is worthwhile exploring if the right fit presents itself. For mine there are clear advantages as long as you're not doing it at the expense of the draft.

As for it being a 'free hit' I'd suggest that may not be the case if Levi moves on, which I believe is very likely.

Unless there's a clear standout elite talent to go for, I'd rather we bank any pick we gain for Levi's departure and be aggressive on the trade table as we have been over the past few years.

Agreed.

I would only go after the likes of a Duryea, if we brought in top end talent like Hopper, Smith etc. Releasing a guy like Willo through the middle would certainly improve our midfield in time

It's definitely exciting the amount of opportunities we have this off-season.

The idea of getting both Kelly and Hopper is probably the dream. If they both wanted to come to us we can feasibly do it while keeping one of our first picks in 2017 or 2018 but it probably means losing two of Murphy, Gibbs and Casboult. The final two seem most likely to be shipped out.

My dream scenario:

Cas gets us Band 3 compo ~23

We give Adelaide Gibbs and ~23 for two 1st rounders this year (theirs and another from Cameron or McGovern).

We give GWS our 2018 1st and the two picks from ADL for Kelly and Hopper.

We swap our 3rd for Balic and draft one of the ready to go mids at the top of the order this year.

In: Kelly, Hopper, Balic, Rayner/LDU/Cerra
Out: 2018 1st, Gibbs, Casboult, 2017 3rd, 2017 1st (consumed in draft)

Reports in the scum today that, the crows will/should target Rocky as a FA. Is it possible that they will go after both Gibbs and Rocky and if yes does it make them more likely to offer up more to secure Gibbs as the both of them would make them very hard to beat.

Do they just copy-paste all the trade talk articles from year-to-year in Adelaide until someone tells them not to?

After this weekend we will have played 36 players at senior level.
Not out of the question that McKay, Jaksch, Byrne, Buckley and possibly even Kerr get a run before years end.

I think our record was 41 a few years back. Could easily match that at this stage.
As it should be, we are in a reset/rebuild, with a perceived weakness at the "bottom" of our
list. A shallow draft looming, so the preference would not be to cut too deep. Very few, if any
had their "papers stamped" until recently. However, a few are failing the audition, meaning
SOS and crew are likely to be very creative with our drafting. A few state league players will
be busting their butts, as if opportunity is to happen, it will be this year.

Would be intrigued to know where Gussyman sits with the rookie list. Allowed to revert to
Category B this year after doing his time as a Category A. Does he have the luxury of three
years as Category B? Also we have been told Category A rookies will be available for selection
each week in 2018. Where does that leave Cat B for eligibility? Surely if Gussy "passes" the
audition he will be promoted to main list in the "shallow" year.

Shaping up as a positive for the likes of Rowe and White to gain new contracts, as seasoned
warriors will at least provide a solid base for the twos. We won't be drafting a heap of kids.

I doubt jaksch gets a game. Papers well and truly stamped.

Jaksch, gorringe, Boekhorst definitely gone.

My bet is kerr gets a game before mckay. Byrne will bd back in another couple of weeks.

Just saw on facebook that Matthew Wright has signed a new one year contract.
Awesome. Love it.
Page 176 Saints board List Management thread. Speculation we are going after Greene. Supposedly to make cap space for Giants, Didn't b70 mention a "surprise" the other day?
Went and had a look. The poster who reported it seems to be reasonably well respected by their mob. Sounds like Sos is shaking the tree to see whats gonna come loose.

Unless Greene wants to leave, others will probably go first to make space for Greene. He's one of there key players. Amazed if gws lets him go anywhere.

I like Greene, a lot.....

Think he's being played out of position (though plays HFF very well) and will make an outstanding midfielder as proved in the formative years.

Has a bit of campaigner and confidence too which won't go astray.
