Kreuzer FA and whatever we can shake out of the Gibbs deal which could be on-traded.

Would rather keep both and build the young kids around them and Murphy.

Don't forget in terms of senior experienced players, we'll be losing Simpson, Casboult, Daisy, White, Armfield & Rowe from the best 22 in the next year or 2 which will leave us with a very young team.

I think it's important to keep Kreuzer, Gibbs & Murphy to be the senior leaders much like Bob Murphy, M Boyd & Morris are for the dogs and Riewoldt & Montagna are for the Saints.

Very conceivable that in 2019 the only senior experienced players will be Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer & E Curnow. Then basically the rest of the team would be kids 24 and under.

Just had a real good look at Sos' moves over the last year and a bit and have tried my best to predict the delistings at the end of the year...

Delisted: D Gorringe, A Silvagni, L Jones, D Buckley, B. Boekhorst, L. Casboult
Retired: D Thomas, D Armfield
Traded out: Gibbs

Potentially add Nick Graham and Palmer to those delistings but I'm not sure. I think the ones listed are certainties barring a huge form turnaround. I think Simon White gets another year, Jed Lamb seems to be liked by Bolton but must be close to being delisted unless he strings some games together and finishes the year strongly. I think SOS will fight to keep Kreuzer and I think if Adelaide continue their form and make the grand final/ win the comp then we wont come to an agreement on the value of Gibbs and he'll play for us until his contract ends. Possible trade bait is slim then, in fact I think Gibbs is the only player we have to trade. So if we do go down that path, I can see a first rounder and some pick shuffling later on. I think we'll see a trade with Hawthorn as continuation of our trade with them last year. Potentially we'll need to fill 8 senior spots and 1 rookie spot. So, the fun stuff:

Sheehan and Lebois upgraded to the senior list, leaving 6 spots. Use 6 picks in the draft (Our first, Adelaides first, a second we've traded picks for, some later picks). With 2 spots available for rookies in the rookie draft. Would love to see our draft bring in 3 or 4 midfielders, a potential project ruckman and another tall forward prospect. We have the possibility of a father son pick this year too, unsure how Liam Hickmott is travelling though or if we are interested at all as I've heard more about his brother in the following draft than Liam in this one. With that, it doesn't really leave any room for a free agent target so I think there may be even more delistings. On top of the guys mentioned who else would be in the gun?

Jaksch.

(A Silvagni is a Rookie)

Talk over on the GWS page is that both Kelly and Shiel are set to re-sign. Devon Smith seems to be the vulnerable one of the out of contract players going by the talk there.

With Greene, Delideo and draftees coming through I feel Devon is a guy they could trade out to make cap room and get a good pick.

What would you give for him?

I would be happy to offer a late first for him, not sure if we would get any change back. I really like him.

Devon Smith is a gun but not sure he's the type we'd prioritise since he's more a small forward in the Pickett/Sumner/Polson mould.

I'm sure we'd love to have him, but we have bigger priorities in midfielders for now to use our trade assets on.

Doesn't Devon get quite a bit of the footy? I've seen him a bit and he takes the game on, backs himself and is a hard worker.

Pocket and Sumner don't seem to be big possession getters and Polson hasn't proved anything.

I would of thought Smith was more in the Breust mould.

In an ideal world I'd agree but if we keep Gibbs and Kruz where are the draft picks coming from?
We already don't have a 2nd this year. We are replacing a lot of players as you said, there is no use replacing them with rubbish picks.

leaving 6 spots. Use 6 picks in the draft (Our first, Adelaides first, a second we've traded picks for, some later picks).

You've made an indepth post but skimped on the most important bit. If we are going to delist all those guys (agree on most) we need to have decent picks to replace them with.

Currently we have a 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and by your prediction Adelaides 1st. That's 5, if we trade picks to get another second then that number goes down.

Majority of the time not much gold is found in the 5th round and beyond so I'm a little sceptical of replacing guys with poor draft pics.

Spot on DD.
Do we do the full clean out at the end of Season 2017 and delist 8-10 players and perhaps lose Gibbs (trade) and Kreuzer (FA) too?
How do we fill the list spots after 5-6 draft picks and maybe 1-2 rookie upgrades?
How do we achieve the salary cap spend?
If FA and not a Fyfe or a Martin, then who? And DFAs?
Perhaps another 2-3 players will have 1-year contracts like Casboult, Buckley and Graham have this year.

It's difficult, I think we need to trade one of Gibbs or Kruz maybe both, I love them both but we need imo another 1st, compo pick and hopefully a second.

Cas still gets a game each week showing he must work hard and be a long way ahead of others. For me, he and White will definitely be there.

On the flip side, if SOS and bolts decide 10 players aren't up to it, do you replace them even if it's with late picks as at least with a late pick we might find someone who is.

The previous post listed 8 delistings, that didn't include Sumner, Lamb, Simpson, Kerridge. So if we go light on this year we will have another big list next year

Agreed 100% Devon is a jet. Would instantly improve our side. Has some run, aggression and loves a goal.

Smith is a favorite of mine .
A "footballer" with class and a really competitive attitude .
I guess the discussion lies in how we are placed with his type of player .
Pickett , Polson , Sumner , LeBois all small forward / midfielder types .
Where do Bolton/Silvagni see these blokes going forward ?
Smith is a beauty and there's always a strong argument for attaining class players when you can .
But the midfield appears the area where we need to concentrate our resources at seasons end .

I am fairly confident Smith would be able to transition into a player who plays majority mid...look who he's up against at GWS so he's automatically down the pecking order due to the class of their depth and is almost forced to play forward majority of the time...But with his talent he would become super valuable to us if we could get him for a late 1st Rounder. No reason why he can't become a goal kicking mid, desperately what we need.

Price is a massive part of it as well.
The Crows drafted Milera and Cameron even though they had Betts and to an extent Wright at the time, there is also a chance that some or even none of the guys you mentioned make it at all whereas Devon is already a class player.
I haven't seen Lebois or Polson play but i have seen the other two play and they for mine are the opposite type of player to Smith.
Would you go after Smith and what would you pay (picks wise)?
