Goodwill is a luxury, anything we lost in obtaining Docherty (and we did underpay) has been balanced out by the fact that they rolled us for Robinson after we tried to shop him around before delisting him, and Bell who we let go for a song because he needed to get back to Qld for family reasons. I don't think Brisbane will have any issue dealing with us if we comer to the negotiating table with a reasonable offer.
Tom Bell for Brisbane's pick 21 was a pretty good outcome IMO.
Robinson we told everyone we would delist him if they didn't offer us value and guess what, they didn't offer us value and we delisted him.

It's a rebuild and it's nowhere near finished. For all the great efforts overs the past few weeks we are still a bottom 4-6 side. This year we will bring in another 8 or so kids and a couple of recruits. It was the plan from the start and nothing has changed. Port was a game that will happen every so often. The important thing was we bounced back. Impressive for such a young list.

What Bolton and SOS are doing is impressive but there is still a long way to go and I am sure they know it. The talk of Reid etc is silly. They will go after an elite talent like a Hopper and maybe one or two talented younger players and they will be good kicking mids. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nothing has changed and the direction hasn't changed. If an offer comes for a Casboult or Kruezer that betters the side we will take it. If it doesn't they will stay. I'm not fussed either way and will sit back and enjoy the ride. We will go back before going forward

What I am confident in is SOS will bring in more great talent. People are excited by our kids after 7 rounds and they haven't even shown anywhere near their potential yet. Wait until LeBois Kerr McKay Byrne Pickett Cuningham Macreadie etc step back in and improve. The best is yet to come
If Casboult were to leave, and we do not want to persist with Gorringe, Jones or Jaksch (I have all 3 in my 8+) then IMO Reid is what we need to give Harry a bit more space to develop.

So that would have Pruess out of contract at the end of this season ?
If so , we should be having a serious crack at him .
I think that North would like to keep both Goldy and Pruess but there is a bit to be considered .
Goldy holds a lucrative contract which at his age and taking into account both injury and tapering performance , other clubs might be reluctant to take on board .
So if Goldy remains , he continues as the number 1 ruckman .
If Pruess is indeed out of contract at seasons end and any other club (hopefully Carlton) were able to convince him to request a trade and nominate them on the back of a generous contract and the number 1 ruck position , North would have little control over the matter and be bound to lose him .
At 21 years of age with his size , aggression and encouraging early displays , Pruess would be the perfect fit going forward with our emerging team .
Happy for Kruezer to stay and with a reduced workload , his battered body might well see out a few more seasons .
If Kruezer decides to leave as is his right as an unrestricted FA , the compo pick we would receive could be the guts of the deal to land Pruess .
I think North would rather let Goldy go and keep Preuss. What do you think?

No, I believe he signed a 2 year contract extension towards the end of last year, meaning he's contracted through the 2018 season.

He'd be on the radar of just about every club in the competition, and with Goldstein 29 and looking past his best, a rebuilding North Melbourne won't be too keen to lose him.

I don't think we'll take on any FA's this year, but would be happy to accept a 2nd band compo for Casboult, should the situation allow.

Can't see Levi in our long term plans and he may not have a better opportunity to get himself a good deal, than he may get at years end.
I know we'll say that Casboult serves a purpose for us right now, but there's little way known that we'd now match a high offer for him. Doesn't fit.

Unless miraculously Kreuzer gets us a band 1, you just can't see him going anywhere.
If that band 1 was attainable, it would also mean a terrific contract for Matthew.....win/win.....but I can't see it coming about.

Fair enough .
But I'd hope Silvagni was already in discussions with his manager for this time next year .
North may well be stuck with Goldy .
He holds a lucrative contract that for the reasons mentioned , on top of having to trade for him , other clubs may well stear clear .

I'm not sure what the relationship ended like, but I would enjoy seeing Menzel in Navy again. Would come cheap you'd think and be a long term Wright replacement.

I don't expect it'll happen of course, but he is skilled and Bolton could get his best out.

I though the idea was to recruit good players that will improve our team.

If you want a stop-gap key forward to fill a spot until McKay has developed further, why not just keep Casboult? At least he can ruck as well.

Reid will expect to play out his career at a new club (~5 years). Not to just keep a spot warm for a younger player.

This is not correct IMO.

Kennedy is a very talented young footballer who the Giants won't want to lose. They're not moving him on unless he initiates it. He's not steak knives in any deal - he's a lot better than that.

If you're looking to relieve cap space you don't get rid of someone on a rookie contract.

That's right I forgot that he's on a rookie contract. You probably know more about him than I do, can you see him being a best 22 player for us in the long run?

I would absolutely keep Casboult.
He is an unrestricted FA.
If he wants to leave, I would far rather take Reid than trade in Schache.
Jaksch,Jones and Gorringe I do not have hopes for.
