If we have now genuinely become interested in Schache, given we weren't before, then why?

1. His form - No......even though he may be unhappy up north.
2. His asking price has changed - Not good enough a reason.
3. We have a deal in principle with Brisbane - Highly unlikely.
4. Another key forward we had our sights on, won't be coming to us - Maybe, but why jump the gun on one you didn't care for.
5. Schache wants to come to us - Not good enough a reason.

We'll see in due course how this pans out, but it still makes little sense to me.

We'd be crazy to chase him given the state of our midfield and Gibbs likely to be traded...

We may just be playing the game as you never know what can fall out of the tree later.
I still see the KPF for us now, being the last piece of the puzzle and one that may show its face until '18 or '19........not '17.

Who knows though?.......we may even have the last piece already.
Not sure McKay would be doing any worse than Schache has been doing at Brisbane this year, if he was playing there instead of him.

Interesting. What would he cost us? No doubt our 2017 1st at least will be the asking price.

I don't want to get a big head or anything about my club but could our renewed interest be driven by Schache or his management?

I get the feeling we're being seen as a good destination for kids who want to develop.

Would Schache have mates on our list?

My biggest concern is spelling his name and Jakschs names correctly.

I suspect a lot of interest in Schache comes from the fact that key forwards who are already guns (Lynch, Kennedy, Cameron etc.) are virtually impossible to pry away from opposition clubs. Young key forwards take 4-5 years to hit their straps. This is Scache's 2nd year and he would be easier to obtain at the end of the year than he would be once/if he turns into a gun. He could develop nicely in our team over the next two to three years and then be ready to explode when we are genuinely challenging. Although we have McKay already, I think they could develop into a more than handy 1-2 punch. When a young, highly rated key position prospect becomes attainable I think we would be silly not to at least have a crack at getting him.

Would back SOS in to find some handy midfielders still even if we land Schache. I'm sure he has something up his sleeve. Time will tell but will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Purely depends on what we have to give up for me. Kid will be a very good player. Not someone I would give up a Top 10 pick for and I doubt Brisbane would give him up for less. SOS would have to work some real magic especially if we are chasing Hopper as well. I just can't see us giving away both this year and next years first round picks

I'm the opposite Harks. I see midfield run and ball use with depth as our biggest issue. I think the forward line is developing well. McKay Kerr Weitering Silvagni Casboult (Macreadie Marchbank) is enough. Modern game is less talls and flexibility between forward and back. Last 4 flags have been won with just ONE key forward.

I have no issue getting Schache, I just don't want to give up valuable picks.

That looks like a 360 degree, opposite.
That's exactly what I've been saying :)

Get the midfield right and we'll look stronger in the back-line and be more potent up forward.

If his asking price has changed and or he may want to come to us, of course they are reasons to develop interest where there may have been none.

Plan A to get quality mids won't have changed, but we'll rightfully consider Schache if we believe we can get both.

If SOS can pull that off with no second rounder as well , my love for him will reach new heights!:D
Nah stuffit i'll be angry coz i dont rate Schache .

Agree.

Good to have you back!!!

With all due respect to the source, unless he's Stephen Silvagni then it's possible they're not always getting 100% up to date accurate information. It's also possible 'not interested in Schache ultimately just means there hasn't been any word on it.

There is also the possibility the source is spot on & the media are driving a baseless rumour.

Schache's manager was quoted in an interview today saying words to the effect "the $ being demanded as reported in the media are a huge exaggeration".

This may be why we are now more interested- we know SOS loves a bargain!!

Exactly! :thumbsu:

PS I believe our defence has the potential to rival our greatest. Add Byrne, maybe Sheehan and it looks incredible. May just need a small defender with some run. With a dominant midfield I can't see it being beaten

Someone posed the scenario to get a top 10 pick for Gibbs via a 3rd party. If for instance we could turn Gibbs into Schache, I can see why that would appeal.

I'm not sold on him

Assume you're talking about Schache. Has shown nothing at AFL level but he's a key forward and as we know they take time.
Weitering, McKay, McCartin & Moore are young key forwards in the same boat.

Not saying we should go for him because I would not be keen on offering him 700k. But I also trust SOS.

Here's what I think we can build our back-line around:

Certainties (Almost) - Marchbank, Macreadie, Byrne, Docherty, Plowman = 5
Others (Just for now) - Sheehan, Williamson, Pickett = 3
Possibilities: Glass-McCasker, Buckley = 2

We may yet need that one brute, but maybe not.
Maybe a flexible back-line is the way to go.

Would you say Phillips was underdone playing Seniors after a long spell with an ankle injury and just the 2 VFL games before the Port Adelaide match?

Yeah probably. He missed a fair bit of time at the start of the year with injury.

How do you think he went last year?

He looked pretty good in a couple of games last year - both his ruckwork and his marking. More than serviceable with glimpses of maybe something more.

He stank it up in his one game in the seiors this year, and from what I saw of his VFL games, he wasnt much better there either. I didnt see his most recent game, so perhaps he did better.
