I think Boekhorst has more chance of making it than Cuningham. I don't really see the criticism of Boekhorst being spacially unaware and I don't see him being soft when compared to other wingers. Nothing like Lucas imo.

He was disappointing this season no doubt, but his 27 possession game in the pre-season against a full strength Swans in game 3 was impressive. Cuningham looks impressive but he has never shown an ability to win the ball. Cuningham has a selectors advantage but I still like Boekhorst.
Cunningham is also 18 and played 2 games, and has shown an appetite to win the contested ball and tackle. As seen in his stats for the games he played last year, the tackle numbers were particulary impressive.

Whereas ive seen Boekhurst either not put his body on the line, or shirk the contest.

Next year he will be 24, the signs are not encouraging. And for all of 2016, if your highlight reel contains one tackle .... for the YEAR .... things are looking grim.

He is good looking and I guess that is a highlight

Boeky has serious running/evasive talent.

One play at the MCG this year was brilliant.

Took the ball on the wing, ran around about 3 players and laced a pass inside 50.

He needs to be able to produce consistently to be a real asset.

Calm down, cuningham came off no preason and plenty of hip problems to play a few games and start to show some glimpses. He is what, 19? A full preason and you will see he is a genuine footballer, with pace and solid footskills.

Boek, well he is hard to judge. I intially thought he would make it but is well and truly on the outer with sos and bolts. There really is no place in the squad for flakey wholly outside players with average skill and decision making. This year is definitely make or break. He needs to rack up 30 per week with the bullants to even get a look in, I reckon.

Zac Fisher will be remembered as a fantastic recruiting decision by Carlton. I'm not sure of his impact this year, due to size, but he can seriously play and will be a huge asset for the Blues.

I reckon is playing by June. Size matters little with great decision making and awareness.

whether boekhurst makes it is very debatable but to say he has more chance than cuningham really doesn't make any sense to me at all. cuningham will be a very very good player. hes' already ahead of boekhurst. what he did for an immature kid with limited game experience and fitness late in the year was very impressive. so much so that bolton kept throwing him in the middle. he showed he has real smarts and a great work ethic. he is also tough.

i also don't rate pre season games at all. not even close in intensity. a lot of average players do well in those games. a bit like round 22 between 2 non finals sides. i hope boekhurst makes it as we need all we can get but comparaisons to cuningham aren't right

Boek looked great before he got injured then he became a waste of an inclusion. Too big a discrepancy between his best and worst and he's not often on the better side of that equation.

He's still got the tools to be a very handy player if it clicks, but those chances get slimmer and slimmer

I am fascinated by some of the assessments of Boeky, after 2 injury interrupted seasons on our list, particularly when compared to the continued support for Dylan Buckley who, despite having had 5 years on our list & turning 24 in 2017, is yet to cement a position in our best 22.

Different strokes for different blokes.

i put buckley in the same category. both do things i like, especially with pace, but i feel neither has the poise or nouse to be good afl players. pity, as i like buckley and he's someone who'd i'd really like to see make it. unfortunately graham may be the same. good player buts lacks a few things to be a top level afl player. pity, but its a tough business

Buckley's a different scenario - kid is all heart, lacks some composure. People want to see those guys succeed because it's clear how much they love playing for the club. Boeky looks much more reserved, hard to tell if he's really bought into the club itself as yet. That might be entirely off the mark, but for those of us who don't know the player personally, all we can judge by is how the player presents publically.

Should also be noted that there are plenty who think Buckley is on close to his last chance as well. In fact, it's probably one of the more common assessments of him, that if he doesn't break out this year he may have to make way.

i was really hopeful with kerridge especially after watching his pre season but wow does he butcher the ball. as bad as anyone i've seen. you can see why the crows wouldn't play him. it's a big issue in modern footy. i hope he turns it around

He's the kind of player we needed to pick up cheap. Works hard, trains hard, but is there to be replaced by the next generation as soon as they're ready.

I know what you're getting at but remember: Boekhorst had a contract in hand whilst Buckley was still hoping to remain on the list............and along with Graham, was given a final chance after the trade period. i.e. We couldn't get anything better so they remained.

I think that the clubs preference has shown up, as to who they think has a better shot at things, going forward.
I'd be happy should they both remain but both their ratings will need to be clocked up. SOS waits for no-one.

Yep, not putting too much thought into contract statuses, just common perceptions of them as players.

Buckley is cut some extra slack (fairly or not) because he's a father/son recruit who loves the club and gives his all. He lacks some polish, and sometimes bites off more than he can chew, but you know he'll be first in whenever one of our guys gets shoved around. Fans like those sorts of characters.

Boekhorst was a mature age recruit who hasn't really had a chance to show us what he can do. During those limited opportunities, he's shown a few glimpses but never had a really damaging game. While he seems to tick all the athletic boxes, some people question his willingness to put the body on the line. Hard for fans to get attached to a guy like Boekhorst unless he starts having a greater impact on games.

Graham is somewhere between the two. Tidy footballer who I'd be happy to see on the list for a few more years as a key VFL player and coverage for injuries to the senior mids - depends whether he's happy in that role and whether we're able to draft or recruit someone who can offer more.

Thing is, I do not feel it has anything to do with skills, more that he thinks one step at a time and when under pressure it causes him to panic and kick to no one in particular.
